Look How Far WE've Fallen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDwBEnOOJ7Y&feature=related

Once upon a time we had a  great point guard, 3 great swingmen( Richardson, Ellis, Jackson), a good center and a good coach.

2 years later we have one good swingman, and a good center. This is a joke how far we have fallen. We beat the Mavs, were close in every game against Utah. It started when we thought Stephen Jackson should be the face of the team. Rowell thought a Jackson lead team was better than a Baron lead team. I think we should have let Baron go but i would have traded Jackson and Harrington and Wright for a star. I dont know who that would be but the Warriors front office could have found it. Stephen Jackson should not be the 1st or 2nd option. That calls for disaster. This year our offense has been very boring and slow. I know we are scoring alot but it seems very stagnant.  We wont find anyone for Jackson or Maggette so we have to hope Randolph and Wright become VERY GOOD or else we are doomed.

Star-divide

To clarify when i meant a star... I meant a player like Danny Granger player not top 10 player but top 20 or 30. And i meant that . Theres no reason that before this season we could not get someone like that a year after Jackson had a career year with an expiring contract next summer and Al harrington who underachieved but still was good with another expiring contract and Wright, a massively athletic forward with tons of potential and who played great in the playing time he got last year.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

You know...

I was one of the people who kept thinking, just get over it. We still got players. We have tons of potential with certain players. But after watching that video, I do miss it more than I thought. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

EXACTLY

The people who “got over it” just forced themselves to forget the 2007 Warriors and made themselves think that those Warriors weren’t even all that great. This is what happens with almost EVERYTHING; it applies to hella other things in life.

People tend to live off hype, and once that hype dies they start moving on to the next thing while the previous thing loses recognition. Just look at the Hyphy Movement. Hella people in the Bay Area were going dumb and getting Hyphy in 2006 and 2007 and now they just forget about it like it was just a trend. Had they kept the movement strong, Hyphy would be all over the mainstream by now.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 13, 2009 10:23 PM PDT up reply actions

please dont compare the warriors to the hyphy movement.

by gorillas on Mar 13, 2009 10:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Same thing.

You probably think the Hyphy Movement was stupid. Well, hella Warriors fans think the 2007 Warriors weren’t even all that great. Same type of ending with the two.

The Bay Area had the national spotlight on them when it came to music because of the Hyphy Movement. They had a ton of rappers ready to step up and go mainstream, our music was finally getting recognition. Instead of our music always being regional, it was finally getting momentum to go mainstream.

The Bay Area had the national spotlight on them when it came to basketball because of the We Believe Warriors. They had a ton of guys ready to step up and help the team go far, Golden State was finally getting recognition in the NBA. Instead of our team always being out of the playoffs to continue our postseason drought, we were finally getting the pieces together to be a legit playoff team.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 14, 2009 1:23 PM PDT up reply actions

the hyphy movement never

got big because the bay didnt have any sick ass rappers….E-40s our best and hes been mainstream for years , jus never that popular cuz he was never good enough

kinda like the warriors, we’ll get respect when we start getting good

by 3Kings650 on Mar 14, 2009 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

what about hieroglyphics and del tha funkee homosapien

arguably the best rapper ever…and the best rap group ever. the bay area has some of the best. but we get no recognition

"so much losers" - hiero

by montamazing on Mar 14, 2009 11:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I understand that, but I don't think that's the point.

E-40 and Too Short have been in the game for years, people outside the Bay are already getting tired of them. The Bay Area has tons of rappers out here that could easily go mainstream and represent the Bay, but I don’t know what happened. The Hyphy Movement was supposed to jump start these rappers to go big but they didn’t know how to take advantage of it.

And it’s not a matter of having incredibly sick rappers. What it really comes down to is about getting recognition (which we don’t really have much of).

Why is it that in the South, whack rappers like Hurricane Chris, Mike Jones, Paul Wall etc. can go mainstream and have a couple hit songs whereas in the Bay Area even our BEST rappers can’t even go big.

Anyways, this is getting completely off-topic from the Warriors now. lol.

Yeah

I guess someone is a baby because they love to look back at great moments.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 13, 2009 10:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I guess.

Some of his statements weren’t necessary, but he’s basically looking back at great moments (Warriors in the Playoffs) because of how “bad” this team is right now.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 14, 2009 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions

i agree with most points, but...
The second-highest scoring team in the NBA says hi

You know better than to use PPG as a measure of how good a team’s offense is. The Warriors are 13th/30 in the NBA in offensive efficiency; perhaps not “stagnant” but also not the smashing success you make it out to be.

Then again, perhaps you were just matching a preposterous assertion (we score a lot but our offense is boring and slow) with a slightly disingenuous one of your own.

by markdash on Mar 14, 2009 10:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Haha.

Pretty much — though for what it’s worth, this year’s “boring and slow” offense has a significantly higher offensive efficiency rating (i.e. points per 100 possessions) than the fabulous ’06/07 version (106.1 to 104.4, though the latter ranked slightly higher at #10).

And actually, if we’re trying to measure boringness/speed, I think PPG is probably a better measurement than than efficiency. A hypothetical game in which the two teams had world-beating offensive efficiency ratings of 110 and 109 but wound down every shot clock to 0 seconds would end up 66-65.

Thing 1

by Sleepy Freud on Mar 14, 2009 10:35 PM PDT up reply actions

This is true.

I don’t know where he got the “our offense has been very boring and slow” comment.

I think stagnancy is still on the table, though.

by markdash on Mar 14, 2009 10:42 PM PDT up reply actions

i meant stagnant

but when its stagnant and without ball movement its actually very boring and slow as i like to put it as we have stephen doing isos half the time

by montadaboss on Mar 14, 2009 11:20 PM PDT up reply actions

i shouldnt be told to get over it

because on any other franchise… we would still have a majority of that team not 2 or 3 with only 1(jackson) being a big contributor in the playoffs

by montadaboss on Mar 13, 2009 9:56 PM PDT reply actions

stop whining

its done with. get over it.

by gorillas on Mar 13, 2009 9:59 PM PDT reply actions

Man

I’m with you on that one. I can’t believe that people are actually content about getting rid of the GREAT team that we once had (a team that would have grown into something truly special).

But with this topic, it gets exhausting talking about it over and over and over. We get a topic like this every month. And even though I still can’t get over how stupid the franchise is for breaking up a great team, i’m still tired of arguing with people about on a monthly basis. I know, it’s not like i’m being forced to post and argue whenever a topic like this pops up, but I just can’t leave a topic like this alone because I loved that team so much and felt like they had potential to do SERIOUS damage.

The players we have right now are great and I think this current Warriors team has a great future, but the 2007 Warriors were much better and would have done something amazing by now. I guess people love to rebuild all the time and live off of young player’s hype. That’s what we’ve been doing for 12 straight years without making the playoffs, although this time I really think we have something going.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 13, 2009 10:18 PM PDT reply actions

i cant say

im happy about getting rid of the “old” team. i loved bd, barnes, pietrus, j-rich, etc. but talking about this just gets redundant. right now we should be content with the progression of randolph, wright, morrow etc. and all the rest of our young talent. its no use crying over spilled milk.

by gorillas on Mar 13, 2009 10:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah I know

I’m not happy about getting rid of them either, but at the same time the topic is getting old even though I like talking about it. People need to stop bringing this topic up every month.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 14, 2009 1:08 PM PDT up reply actions

hmmm...

I thought I was about as down on most of the guys on our team, but honestly I dont know that we are all that much worse than we were. I think the bigger problem is that we accept an 8th seed as a “GREAT” team. If by great you mean incredibly fun to watch-then yes they were great, but this team has been great at times this season too. If by great you mean an elite basketball team then you are very very wrong. I’m not hopeful about this roster as it stands now and I think we need to make some major roster changes, but its pointless to use a team that played very good basketball for about a month and a half with so much self-pity. Niner fans can say “look how far we’ve fallen” but at this point warrior fans can only say “look how pathetic we STILL are.”

Thing A

by sam23 on Mar 14, 2009 5:11 AM PDT up reply actions

I think they were great

It’s not about what they did, it’s more about the situation that they were in and how much they could have improved. For a team that only played 21 games together in the regular season and 2 playoff series, they could have grown into something spectacular and should have been given a chance to at least play a full season together. The team could have easily made a couple moves to get some good role players on the team and who knows what crazy things they could have done.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 14, 2009 1:10 PM PDT up reply actions

We weren’t that high up.

Face it, 06-07 We Believe was really a fluke that wasn’t supposed to happen. But of course it did, and I, like all of you will NEVER forget it and am very grateful it happened. But it was all just a fluke.

WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...

by JustSomeName on Mar 14, 2009 2:32 AM PDT up reply actions

How were they a fluke?

They did amazingly well in the 21 games that they played together in the regular season. They did well in the Playoffs and learned that all they needed was a good rebounder on their team. They weren’t even given a damn chance.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 14, 2009 1:14 PM PDT up reply actions

Sure

But how high would they have gotten if they got the chance to play a full season together, and how high would they have gotten if Mullin actually built ONTO that 2007 team, instead of breaking it apart?

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 14, 2009 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

That's the thing

No one will ever know. Time to let go

by disguy on Mar 14, 2009 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions

or

maybe theyd be even worse than they are now (watch Baron play) Theres no point point in speculation based on 1 month of basketball.

Thing A

by sam23 on Mar 15, 2009 3:49 AM PDT up reply actions

Do you remember being a relevant team in the league?

We had the damn spotlight on us. Everyone in the world was cheering for us and we actually had celebrity fans come to our games. lol.

Now, no one gives a crap about the Warriors anymore. We could have ended up great but now everyone’s forcing themselves to believe that those Warriors were just a trend.

by Precise Films Productions on Mar 14, 2009 1:16 PM PDT up reply actions

where is

baron, monta, jack, jrich, biedrins getting us now? its just as flawed a team as 1 we have today…. jrich has declined… no1 could say baron or monta would be healthy.

jack, harrington + wright for a star…. WHAT star? no one is trading us an all star for these players…. would u trade garnett for these guys? cp3? lebron? dwight howard? kobe? No one is trading a star for a very good 3rd option 30 year old, an antawn jamison tweener who puts in less effort and is a cancer, and a young PF whose proved nothing

I <3 the Doomsayers and Baron-ites

Brandon Jennings. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.
Andre Smith in Silver & Black in 2009.

I miss that team too but

as good as we were and could have become you have to think that things worked out for the best. Everything happens for a reason. i loved that team as much as anyone and i cried when i found out J Rich was traded for Wright butwhen you look at the future of this team you have to be happy that we can build on somethin interesting with Ellis, Wright, Randolph, and Dre. Things haven’t gone good this year but you never know what would have happened had that team stayed together. They could have won a championship or things may have went downhill. But i don’t think people give this team credit. as bad as we are we can turn this aroung with about 1 or 2 good moves and improvement from our young guys. And just like Baron said after that game about StackJack people say alot about him but they don’t give him credit for being a good basketball player and that is true. when you look at Jackson if he is our 2nd or 3rd best player on our team then we have an even better player than right now. Right now Jackson is our star and he is not that bad. his only flaws are turnovers and argueing with the refs but he is not as bad a player as some guys say

by GSW9 on Mar 14, 2009 6:16 PM PDT reply actions

That team

blew into the playoffs after 13 tumultuous years. You can say it was a fluke, but for once that team was the hope we could, well, all believe in and it made every basketball fan see something special born right there against the best team in the league. What we saw in ‘07 was real basketball – a rarity in today’s standards. The current roster is far, far from the cohesion, offensive savvy, clutch shooting, and spry of that ‘07 team. Yes, making the playoffs on the last day with the Clippers losing was a fluke, but the 16-5 run they made was purely them working their asses off.
Sure, we can honor our young team’s progress, but what is down the road with our tangled front office? Will our coach retire before we can really play? Will pieces be moved for better players without the same intangibles? Or could all of the opposite happen and we win it all? One thing for sure, only the players have changed and not management.
For that ’007 team, the fans will move on, but they will not forget.
