RECAP: Warriors 109 Grizzlies 114 - REF U SUCK?

Final Boxscore  |  Open Thread

"I'm not going to take questions because I don't want to get fined," said Warriors coach Don Nelson, still upset over the officiating in the fourth quarter. "We missed a lot of shots in the fourth quarter and they made a lot of free throws, and that's all I have to say."

Smart man.

I'm still heated from last night and I probably don't have much to add in for analysis and recap.  Being at the game and witnessing that atrocity of a "game" makes me wonder why I even do this to myself.

It's one thing if I have injury-plagued team that has front office turmoil and can't keep a great player.  I got over that this season.

I'm not one to make excuses.  I'm not going to blame anyone.

As I sat in the Roaracle last night, I only heard one thing.

REF U SUCK.

Could you hear that on TV?

Cause I heard it in Section 109.  Over and over and over and over again.

This looks like fun.

Available players for the Warriors = 8.

I mean honestly, can you even play a legitamite NBA game with these players?

Monta Ellis

Jamal Crawford

Anthony Randolph

Ronny Turiaf

Kelena Azubuike

C.J. Watson

Rob Kurz

Anthony Morrow

Yes, there is talent.  Possibly (I use that very loosely) even an All Star in that list of players, but come on.  A REAL NBA GAME?

Look, I could understand if this were a practice, but we're talking about a GAME..

Not practice.  A GAME.

Capt

This was a bit scary.

HE'S BAAAAAACKKKK

Except I don't want that.  I don't want that at all.  But I'll get that later.

First, I have to give the man his props.  29 points and 5 assists is very nice for a player coming off an injury.  His acrobatic moves and ability to finish strong are still in him.  I really REALLY liked what I saw yesterday.

But, I want more.  Remember, we signed this guy for 5 more years and this can't be his ceiling.  That word POTENTIAL needs to turn into something else - like ALL STAR.

Keep growing man, keep growing.  I see the fire burning.

Yo guys, why are you just watching this happen?

Grizzly Attack

Look, I can understand that a lineup of O.J. Mayo, Marc Gasol, Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Hakim Warrick, and Darco Milicic might be hard to stop.

I get it - young team, lots of potential (where have I heard that before?) and a bunch of guys that could end up to be All Stars.

But who the heck is that guy in the picture?

And why didn't Darius Miles get some playing time?  I loved that man in Van Wilder!

Cc6db8de39e45db79565af0d2440d3d3-getty-83007420rw025_warriors_grizzlies_medium

Jamaaaaaal!

SIIIICK moves but couldn't finish all the time.  Guess that's the definition of a streaky shooter.

Wish you well wherever you end up next year man.

Football_referee_medium

Referees

I'm going to follow Don Nelson's lead on this one.  Not going touch it.

The only thing I will say is this - there must be a reason that there everyone was screaming something at the top of their lungs.

I only wonder what this game would have been like if Stephen Jackson were around.

Yeah the refs sucked

but you can’t blame this game on them. The Warriors just completely collapsed in the 4th quarter. They played no D and couldn’t hit a shot, especially Monta.

4th qtr

Bad shots, bad D.

I understand ellis wasn’t feeling well and got hurt in the game perhaps. But that doesn’t excuse horrible 3pt attempts.

Jamal needs to learn how to drive to the basket more – it works!

Monta should have been resting most of the 4th and let CJ play – monta was obviously tired. CJ was actually hitting 3pters. I wish we had marco, nellie may rest monta more if marco was playing point.

And yes, tv watchers head the refs suck.

This was one of the only games this year I’ve missed but looking at the box score, it looks like Ellis only took two 3 point shots, so I’m not getting the whole picture on how he was taking so many bad 3s.

I know you didn’t say he took a lot but it’s been discussed on other threads, was he just taking rushed long range shots ala Jackson (Gad I hope hes not learning that bad trate). Or was it just a few ill advised shots that he may not have had another choice of. (Clock winding down, no one open, etc)

There's a party in my mind.
And I wish that I was there.

rushed long shots

both he and jamal were taking long shots rather than driving, which usually they make. Monta was in sjax “I will win it or loose it” mode, which is bad. Rather morrow or buike shoot those

read the play by play

I think Monta attempted 2 3’s near the last 5 minutes of the 4th Q. Jamal took one. Both Kelenna and AM were on the floor. I believe CJ was too. (near the last 3 minutes?) The last few games that we lost (shoot, all the roadtrip games) Monta has been doing tons of iso…esp. in the 4th Q.

Two games, I wouldn’t pound him, but heck 4 maybe I wouldn’t, this is a home game…you’re supposed to win!

Alright, realistically speaking, if Monta is our PG, I don’t see us winning many games.

karma?

sometimes, you reap what you sow and sometimes you have to “make your own luck” despite calls … frankly, this may not be a particularly popular thing to read but we didn’t take care of the ball at all, poor shots, and then didn’t get some calls – it’s cumulative, blaming the refs without looking at our own culpability isn’t productive. Had we taken care of the ball a bit better, that alone would have cut down on their fastbreak layups and we’d’ve won. Jackson’s penchant for b**ching for calls doesn’t leave refs with a great impression of GSW, and refs are human, they remember, they talk, and then your team gets a rep that’s hard to change. Jackson obviously didn’t even play last night, but the effect doesn’t end when he’s of the floor. It’s the end of the season for refs too, lot’s of frustration by players, coaches, fans etc. dumped on them is almost understandable. They missed some calls, and let some contact go uncalled – in a meaningless game at the end of (another) wasted season. The refs are out in front of us, an easy target for our frustrations. The real targets of our frustrations hide in a luxury box, if they come to the games at all …

why would it be karma?

it’s called back luck! karma is something one deserves…all coming back to you. yes, Jack was an emotional player, but c’mon now, how many of the players actually has T’s? if you’re claiming it’s because of Jack, then it’s the refs are being very biased, very unprofessional. but hey, it’s the NBA, where refs hating the Warriors happens.

Could you hear that on TV?

Sup R Diz!

I think it might have been heard on TV. It was pretty loud at the Oracle last night. lol.

I also came home after the game to read through the OPEN THREAD, and I saw some GSoM heads type it.

Unless they didn’t hear it on TV, were thinking just like the fans at the game, and then typed it. Pwah!

I did find you!

You’re in Section 109, dood in the way back chanting hella loud scaring all the old folks right?

I was gonna try to stop by and say wassup after the game but you bounced quickly.

Maybe next time…

Oh ya. I was worried about Monta when he didnt get up last night too.

Since he came back into the game, I’m thinking he is okay?

Seemed like his shooting got worse though, so I am back into concern.

Anyone have a link on a report with it?

IQ? You are usually the first one on it.

Yeah even the announcers brought it up

Fitz and Jim were defending the refs, saying they’re good refs and making the excuse that lots of students were at the game which explains the “crude” chant.

bad refs but also 2/22 shooting at one point...

Hey, I get as mad as anybody when the refs blow it… but really, the W’s had this one at the end of the third…

They just couldn’t make a shot in the fourth – and didn’t really try all that hard (almost all jumpshots… c’mon)…

oh – BIG THANKS for the posting of the website to view the game – really helped…

7.1 - Great for home audio, terrible for an active roster

I didn’t expect much out of such a short roster, but I expected a bit of intelligence in the game. Monta is NOT the guy I want shooting threes at the end of the game. It’s just not his game. The 20-footer is already “outside his range”, so why take those 3’s???

“Refs you suck!” That was the best crowd initiated chant I’ve ever heard, even better than the Jazz fans doing it. You wonder if the Warriors flashed that chant over the large screen to get the whole crowd chanting it. It definitely fired up the Arena, but the Warriors couldn’t take advantage of it.

I’ll have to compliment Morrow for making that one turnaround fadeaway shot. That’s a new trick in his arsenal I’ve never seen before.

It’s going to be a miserable ending to this season. Next game please.

Ugly Game

Blaming the refs would be an excuse as the fans should have chanted, “Defense, U Suck!”. Sure, there were questionable calls but that doesn’t mean you shoot up bricks on the other end then foul once the other team grabbed the rebound, yikes.

However, the Warriors only had 8 guys (7 once Turiaf fouled out) and about 5-6 real NBA players to play with so of course they were burned out in the 4th. Also, Jax was missing and even if you hate his long 3 bricks, unexplained turnovers and untimely technicals – he still will bring the team back up when they were going through that rough patch in the 4th, although after he berates the refs for about a few seconds.

Another loss, another ball in the lottery is how I can go about it now. Kings are in town tonight and Warriors have yet to beat them this season but I’m seeing a 30 point game for Monta.

Boom, Kings roasted.

Good points.

I don’t think fans want to use the questionable calls as an excuse. We just want consistent calls. Fair calls even.

R Dizzle did mention: I’m not one to make excuses. I’m not going to blame anyone.

and I’m sure alot of fans think the same way.

It’s hard to chant , “Make consistent calls!”

Most fans want to chant anything with “suck” and usually when someone says YOU SUCK in public, it instigates a motivation for you to do better.

But in this case, it could just piss off the refs more to make more bad calls and shove it in our faces.

Regardless of that fact, bad calls can effect the emotions and mental of the players, can effect the outcome of the game, but that’s where it’s the responsibility of the team to refocus, work the system, and come with a stronger revised strategy.
