Why doesnt Nelson like Belinelli.?
Im sure you guys have all noticed, during this time where nelson is suppose to be developing the young guns belinelli has never played over 20 minutes except for last game. Since Belinellis return from injury nelson has been looking for any little mistake he makes to pull him right away. For example in chicago last night when he did not realize the shot clock was winding down and passed it to crawford for almost a half court shot, and nellie pulled him right away. Then soon enough a few possessions later the same thing happend with jack and nellie did not say anything.
The last few games he has started really good, against the timberwolves had 11 at half being the leading scorer and nelson plays only 3 min. in the second half. And then Chicago started off sharp and then when he made that one mistake that was the end of the night for him.
If all warriors got pulled for little mistakes then people would be comming in an out every second. The wierd thing is Belinelli actually is one that plays good defense and he always gets pulled while morrow cant really gaurd nobody and cj has defensive trouble and crawford dont try on defense yet belinelli gets pulled for stupid things.
I was wondering if you guys think that Belinelli will ever be able to flourish under Don Nelson.?

Belinelli
isn’t a chucker like the rest of our team so Nellie thinks hes too passive. If you heard Nellie today he said Beli is playing real bad right now.

because of what happened to monta
It’s pretty clear to everyone by now that monta was overplayed following his return. Even today on KNBR with Ralph and Tom Nellie made the point that he overplayed monta returning from his injury, and if im not mistaken he even mentioned at one point that marco wasn’t playing very well returning from the ankle injury and that he didn’t want to make the same mistake with him that he made with monta.
I imagine his minutes will steadily start amping up again. Nellie did mention today that for the future they were looking at marco starting with ellis instead of jamal.

Marco instead of Jamal?

If I had more basketball IQ or experience
maybe I could spot it. But there must be SOMETHING Marco’s doing that’s annoying Nellie, especially since Nellie praised Marco’s play before the injury.

there must be SOMETHING Marco’s doing that’s annoying Nellie
Probably Marco’s herky-jerky movements which are hard on old eyes, he looks like he has to try too hard to just be adequate. Also his no look passing when no-one is looking at him anyway. and his tendency to shoot off balance half the time?
Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?

Marco does stupid stuff, and does it in a WTF are you thinking/are you thinking way?
That sort of thing seems to get you in the Nellie doghouse quick. Think Randolph trying to do more than he can, and just trying to do that. While it is true that Jackson does stuff that make all of us groan and murmur, he usually has a good idea of what he’s trying to do, and tends to get carried away as opposed to being something like lost.(and overall, he does a lot more good than bad).
Marco can pass, but it seems he can only either pass or shoot. That is, he doesn’t seem able to keep both things in mind at once, and improvise according to what happens. He can improvise a pass, when he means to pass, or improvise a shot when he means to shoot. But not shoot when he finds himself in the lane with a good shot, when he drove in order to pass.
Someone who handles the ball as much as Marco has, has to be able to run the team better than he does (which requires an understanding of the lock, floor spacing, and the actual intent of the damn play—any of which Marco can lapse at, at times).
Also, as much he has improved defensively, he is still prone to unforgivable lapses. Hopefully he can improve on any of the above things….and who knows, he might—I never thought his defense would improve as much as it has so far.
Adoptive Parent of Francisco Peguero. He can throw, he can run, he can hit(fastballs), and he's Dominican. What else do you need to know?

Nellie defintely is tougher on Bellinelli than most
But it seems to have worked some. Bellinelli worked his butt off in the offseason to get better at D, and because of that he at least gets some minutes. I expect with his confidence up knowing that he can compete at the NBA level, and more chemistry and maturity, we will see a smarter Bellinelli who makes less easily avoidable mistakes.
by Pearlsofwisdom on Mar 5, 2009 9:11 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
IT might be
He expects better out of him. He’s still starting him everygame, so I don’t think it’s that he hates him. He might just be teaching Marco where he screws up. Extreamly toughly I guess.

The Question isn't
why doesn’t Nellie like Belli…
The REAL question is:
Why doesn’t Stephen Jackson like Belli????
I noticed that it seemed like Jack never passed to Belli, so I focused on it for a few games and Damned if Jack refused to pass the ball Belli. He could get jammed by a double team, his only open pass would be to a wide open Belli at the 3 for a catch and shoot – and DAMN, he wouldn’t pass it to him.
Seriously, once I started paying attention, Jack has NEVER passed the ball to him.
Any thoughts?!?!
by joegiant on Mar 6, 2009 12:12 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
yeah I kinda noticed that the last game
on an inbound…he looked right at him while there was a bit of pressure D, immediatley looked the other way and passed it to crawford. Didnt think much of it, but now that you mentioned it…..hmm
by rtgunn on Mar 6, 2009 12:24 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Noticed that too. Jackson is a ball hog once he makes his mind up to shoot
Doesn’t matter how much traffic or defensive trouble he’s in, he’s gonna fling up a shot one way or another. It’s like he knows if he passes to Belli he won’t get his shot, so he’ll give it to somebody more likely to hand it back to him (like Turiaf or Biedrins). His passes almost always go to Biedrins around the hoop. Oh, and he WILL lead the league in turnovers this year. He’s a “leader”… on a lottery team.
by formerlythecity on Mar 6, 2009 12:25 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
earlier on...
The whole team didn’t wanna pass the ball to Anthony Randolph. They knew he was just too overly agressive with it and he was always a risk to turnover the ball. He would be right in front of guys with his hands up, waiting for the pass but the guys would never pass it to him. Probably because he would just shoot a long jumper or draw a charge or overall just do something stupid with the ball.
I never really noticed Jack avoiding Belinelli but since you mentioned it, I think I’m gonna pay closer attention to that.
Blind eyes can look at me and see the truth!

by gswfan13 on Mar 6, 2009 9:32 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Belli is a 2 guard on a team with 50 other guys at that position
seriously, even our small forwards are really 2 guards
we dont have a solid starting point guard so nellie tries to use him that way because he handles the ball well, but it isnt working
I also think a lot of people probably just dont like his shot. You never expect it to go in based on his mechanics. he is going to have to start shooting like 80% during games to earn a solid playing spot
by warriorsvictim on Mar 6, 2009 9:56 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Reason for no Belli
He makes the top ten on sportscenter every time he plays! Whether its him getting dunked on or being put on his @SS trying to keep up with a Deron Williams, the guy is a joke! Summer League Legend, nothing more.
by High Street Native on Mar 6, 2009 11:21 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
that's harsh!
He is good. I will take down my expectation of him someday starting at the 1 or 2, but he is at least a good rotation player who can backup the 1 or 2.

marco is a beast , but seriously poeple you all need to stop worrying about this year , WHO CARES WHAQT NELLIE DOES THIS SEASON IS A JOKE AND ITS OVER ! , let see how nellie handles the first week of nxt season then make all ur judgments , but yes nellie is starting to piss me off
by WillieMaysHays on Mar 6, 2009 11:32 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Marco I think is used to a different sort of game, but he has skills. He need to learn that he can drive instead of pass all the time. It’s cool because he’s not selfish, and some of his passes have been beautiful this year, but in the NBA, and on Nelson’s team, if you’ve got a lane or an open shot you need to take it and be aggressive. I like his handles, his shot. I think Nellie just hates the unforced turnovers.

by montadaboss on Mar 6, 2009 8:21 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Because his name isn't Dirk
Despite Nelson’s rep for liking the Euros, he has really only given Dirk any minutes. He played so many mind games with Marciulionas that he ruined his career. Everyone is quick to judge Beli when he is only in his second year and didn’t even get any minutes last season. So I say let’s just release him right now and cut our losses. This will leave more minutes for our future franchise player, C.J. Watson. No one in the league would even pick Beli up. I’m totally with most of you, there is no place for him on this roster of future HOF players.

I'm Asian
But I love Belinelli. He’s a baller and I don’t really think there’s a problem with him except he’s in his 2nd year of his NBA career on a team full of 2 guards. He’s still getting consistent minutes. What more can you ask for? I really hope the Dubs find a way to hold onto him long-term.
I have always been a Marco supporter and the doubters doubted me back then and the doubters still doubt me now. But I believe, from a basketball POV (and not a fanboy POV), that Marco has great skills to be a good to very good player in the NBA.
Confident Marco Belinelli supporter

What's up with him lately?
He never drives the ball anymore. He needs to penetrate and dish/shoot!He just dribbles, gets to around the freethrow line and pulls back! Then he has nowhere to go and passes the ball instead of going in for a layup or to the foul line.
by warriOs on Mar 9, 2009 4:45 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Belinelli has his flaws. He could move better without the ball and he’s lacking somewhat in quickness for starters. But how any of you can say he’s completely devoid of talent is beyond me. He can handle with either hand well, his shot is freaking beautiful, his passing is great. He’s shown he can improve aspects of his game (his defense has improved drastically and his rebounding looks like it could be next). Not only that, but he’s improved while getting hardly any minutes – no easy task. Basically Nellie has made it about as difficult as possible on the guy and he’s still played well enough that even Nellie has had to give in and give him more minutes. And the guy is only 22. Right now he’s a pretty reasonable backup 2 and odds are he’ll only get better. Everytime I read this site I feel like I’m taking crazy pills.

yes, his shot is beautiful
Good rotation, very quick release, consistent motion. What’s not to like? Leaning tower of piza personified? Is that a question or statement? I think you must be thinking of Ginobili, who, by the way, shoots 46% from the field for his career, so clearly he’s doing something right.

warrior fans aren't too bright
…when it comes to analyzing players. these are same fans who last year were behind Ellis instead of Baron, and were ready to trade Belinelli when he didn’t even get a chance to show his skills. He was doing really good before he got injured, I think his injury is affecting him a little.
