OPEN THREAD: Warriors @ Jazz - A Win-Win Situation

Golden State Warriors at Utah Jazz, Apr 11, 2009 6:00 PM PDT

Jazzfans_medium
These are the Jazz cheerleaders. I swear! Only in Utah. Only. In. Utah.

Warriors: 28-51
Jazz: 47-32
Tip-Off: 6:00 PM PST
TV: CSN
Radio: KNBR 680

Tomorrow's game is a win-win situation for me. No matter what happens I'll be happy with the outcome. Here's why:

1) Warriors win = Jazz play Lakers in the first round
The Jazz are currently in the 8th playoff spot, 1 game behind the Mavs. The Lakers have already clinched the #1 spot. If there's a team I least want to see in the playoffs, it's the Jazz. Not only because I'm still bitter about the Jazz knocking the Warriors out of the playoffs a couple years ago, but because well I just can't stand that team ever since Stockton and Malone. So seeing them have to face the Lakers in the first round, means they'll be packing their bags early for the offseason.

Call it being a sore loser, call it being a hater, call it whatever you want, I just don't want the Jazz to be in the playoffs. They're boring and nobody likes them. They're a ratings disaster. And if the Warriors win and help keep the Jazz in that 8th spot, I'm happy.

2) Warriors lose = Warriors hold on to the 7th lottery spot
Right now, the Warriors are 2 games ahead of the Raptors and 2.5 games ahead of the Knicks for the 7th lottery spot with 3 games to go. I'm not sure what the tiebreakers are but there's a good chance the Warriors don't win 2 of the next 3 (@ Utah, vs San Antonio, @ Phoenix). So as long as the Warriors don't win 2 of those 3, they're a lock for the 7th spot. Lucky number 7 right? Blake Griffin would look so nice in a Warrior uni.

I fully expect the Warriors to lose. The Jazz record at home is a palindrome for the Warriors record on the road, 32-7. Throw in that the Warriors will probably be down to 4 players due to injuries and it's a recipe for a loss. Still, I'll be happy no matter what happens.

Terrible Poll? and Clippers

Well I’m assuming that those 4 teams are teams that Warrior fans dislike the most. So it’s an alright poll since I like neither of those 4. Anyways I voted Clippers, mainly because of Baron :D. I hate the Fakers for Kobe and Fisher. Dallas for Mark Cuban and Utah for their players and fans.

Speaking of Utah fans...

“Forward Carlos Boozer is still rounding into form from knee surgery. Boozer was actually booed by Jazz fans while going 1-for-9 from the field in a loss to Minnesota last week.”

Isn’t Boozer one of their “go to” guys? That’s pretty harsh of them to boo him like that. It’s not like Boozer is Mike Dunleavy, who deserved to be booed when he played for us.

Yeah,

I remember reading an article about how the Warriors were caught off guard by the racial slurs. I can take trash talking within the spirit of the game, but the racial slurs cross the line beyond sports and competition.

Talking about the difference between playing at home compared to on the road during the series against the Jazz, Warriors forward Stephen Jackson said, “Well, we’re not hearing racial slurs, we’re not hearing people wishing for me to go to jail. That’s the difference for me. I’m loved here in Oakland.”

The 44 of you who voted Lakers should be ashamed of yourselves.

Thing A

by sam23 on Apr 11, 2009 2:08 PM PDT reply actions

I'll admit it, I voted for the Lakers.

I voted for Lakers, but only because I made a quick decision, and it was out of process of elimination. I can’t be a Mavs fan after we humiliated them. I can’t be a Jazz fan because of them beating us, and because they suck. I didn’ t want to be a Clippers fan because they’re so suffocating, and because it seems their owner doesn’t care about winning. So I picked my poison and voted Lakers. I should have abstained from the voting. Oh well.

by IQofaWarrior on Apr 11, 2009 2:19 PM PDT up reply actions

no

you should’ve just voted for anyone other than the Lakers. Obviously all 4 are bad options, but voting Lakers is inexcusable. I don’t forgive you. : )

Thing A

by sam23 on Apr 11, 2009 2:27 PM PDT up reply actions

voting Lakers is inexcusable.

based on what, ignorance or arrogance ? They are the best team of that group with the best history, if we’d had the lakers here for the last 40 years we’d be a lot better off.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Apr 11, 2009 3:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Lambs?

I thought Niner fan hatred began and ended with the Cowboys, no?

As a recovering Cowboy fan, I can say the feeling was mutual — back in the two teams’ heydays anyway.

Anyway, I voted Mavs because (1) the play in the same city as the Cowboys, for whom I still have some faint lingering fondness; (2) Nowitzki and Howard alway seem like pretty cool dudes; (3) my was born in OKC; and (4) the other possibilities are too lame (LAC) or loathsome (LAL, UTA) to ponder…

Thing 1

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 11, 2009 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Yea most niner fans do hate the cowboys, but only because EVERYONE who isn’t a cowboy fan hates the cowboys and the Niners are one of the few equally prestigious franchises-thus a rivalry. But the true (former) so-cal inter-division rival is the Rams, which makes them a better analogy. Besides the Warrior/Laker rivalry intensity SHOULD fall somewhere in between the Giants/Dodgers and 49ers/Rams. Unfortunately this rivalry doesn’t really exist……mostly because we suck, but also because people like Skep and IQ so flippantly dismiss the notion of rivalry.

ideally

ellis will teach himself to be a PG….like CJ is teaching himself to be a PG

ellis needs to be a PG IDEALLY b/c of his size….

either way hes super effective at the 2, so whatever happens…happens

but ideally we should want ellis to become a 1, which would be great if he picks up the skills since hes one of, if not THE, quickest guy in the league when hes at 100%…and with quickness = dribble penetration = strong advantage offensively (reason why parker/paul are so amazing really…other than their other amazing skills)

You're telling me this isn't better than the hornets game

They play 7 guys while the Jazz need to win tonight. They also are coming off of a game last night, and the Jazz have an amazing home record while the Warriors have an atrocious road record… AND the refs try their best to give the game to the Jazz. Tonight was a great great great game

This game felt like the Mavs game against the Warriors in '07

when Avery Johnson decided to bench his best players in order to rest and get them ready for the playoffs. Boy, did that decision make them suffer!

We got Randolph with the very last pick in the lottery. Let’s get these wins and still develop a good player.

For the Warrior Wonder

it’s got to be CJ, with an honorable mention to kurz, for a surprising performance. Kurz broke his season record of 20 pts by scoring 21.

by IQofaWarrior on Apr 11, 2009 8:43 PM PDT reply actions

that's a REALLY good question

which I suppose is better than the Warriors of past teams, where we didn’t have enough good players. I guess i’d make them the “2nd unit” and play the normal starters 25 minutes, or maybe start this 2nd unit on the back to back games, and let the primary guys come off the bench for those games.

by IQofaWarrior on Apr 11, 2009 8:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Sjax needs to play less, we all know that. If buike/morrow can step up, sjax can rest and play better.

by mosdl on Apr 11, 2009 8:50 PM PDT up reply actions

It's a great question

Outside of putting Crawford, Maggs, and Jack on a boat and setting it off afloat, I can’t think of too many good answers. When you start to add up minutes you realize a bunch of these “magnificent seven” are going to either ride pine or be traded…

Thing 1

by Sleepy Freud on Apr 11, 2009 8:50 PM PDT up reply actions

how do we keep these guys on the bench

I don’t think it will be a problem. These guys are not playing that good, the other teams are just playing like crap now. Once everything gets back to normal we’ll need everyone we’ve got.
Best case would be Nellie leaves and we get a coach who likes to play a deep rotation then we can use all the players.

Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?

Best road game of the year

The guys who were more or less our bench played with more heart than most of the starters. Jack, Maggs, and Crawford should watch the last few games and take notes.

Who thinks we can beat San Antonio?

No manu and duncan isn’t 100%? 30 wins would be nice for the ego (we don’t fully suck!)

by mosdl on Apr 11, 2009 8:56 PM PDT reply actions

i think we have a respectable chance

the defense of the warriors in this game was terrific. We defended the rim, didn’t give up that many easy drives, and rattled the jazz. I think we can do the same to the Spurs, and either win, or lose closely. We already lost closely to them AT San Antonio, so there’s a decent chance.

yeah, it was more than just the box score

we absolutely owned this game from the 2nd qtr on. We put them in desperation mode, playing dirty to try to come back.

And even with most of our guys crowding six fouls, we still kicked their asses.

Best quote of the night

From a fan of the Jazz over on their SB Nation blog:

" We should never lose a game at home in which…

…Deron goes for 26 and 14, Boozer goes for 25 and 12, Okur chips in 18, and the other team is a bottom-feeder with only 7 guys (and not even the best ones) playing. I don’t think it’s actually possible for a loss to be more embarrassing than this one.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I really, truly hate this team right now.

BEST game of the year

man….i really gotta give CJ props….he played out of his mind tonight

we got no help from the refs and we still had the mental toughness with a YOUNG team to pull of a win at the most hostile crowd in the league

MVP for this game is def CJ….he has won me over a lot the last few games…especially tonight

im startin to BELIEVE that CJ will be an excellent backup PG for our team!

Boycott | 9:55 p.m. April 11, 2009
The time has come to quit going to the games.

Don’t buy playoff tickets. Don’t attend. Don’t cheer. Don’t watch on television. Let them know what you think.

Hope that the team can find some players with heart somewhere else.

The coach has lost the team. It’s the first time in 20 years. It’s over.

LOLOLOLOL

feels good to invoke that kinda emotions!

YES WARRIORS OWNED THE JAZZ WITH 7 GUYS….7 YOUNG GUYS!!!

btw….wow is AR lookin like hes going to be a great THREE. his jumper looks very smooth and his drives are getting under control! i can see why nelly wants to make him a 3

my ideal lineup for next season now:
PG: Ellis – Watson/bellineli
SG: Jackson – Morrow/bellineli
SF: Randolph – Buki
PF: Odom – Wright/Randolph
C: Andris – Turiaf

crawford opts out, maggs gets traded….and we somehow get odom from that!

what jazz fans are saying

Haha, they should be pissed, I’m pissed cause they cost us draft points. That was a colossal collapse on their part. Letting our bunch of scrubs win in their house shows total dysfunction. All they would have had to do to win is make us run till we were too tired to shoot or just foul us out, instead they stood around with the fingers up their **sses for 48 minutes. Where was there “great” coach during all this?

Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?

Some stats (Curtis Pashelka)

Watson played 39 minutes and was 16-for-16 from the free-throw line — second only in franchise history to a pair of 18-for-18 performances from Hall of Famer Rick Barry in 1974 and 1975 — as Golden State won in Utah for just the third time in the past 13 seasons.

With Watson’s 38 points on 10-for-16 shooting, the Warriors are the first team since the start of the NBA’s modern draft in 1966 to have three undrafted players on the roster score 30 or more points during a season. Azubuike scored 30 against Sacramento last Sunday and Anthony Morrow had 37 against the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 15.
