Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

"We need NBA Classics to show more of the Mutombo games so some of the youngest guys can learn. Everybody is trying me. I don't know why. That young boy [Anthony Randolph] tried so hard. ... He kept telling me, 'I'm going to get you before the day's over.' It's too bad. He tried, but he didn't get a chance to dunk on Dikembe Mutombo. He's not going to be able tell his grandkids, 'I got Dikembe with one.'"

-- 42 year old Dikembe Mutombo after putting up 10 points, 15 boards, and 4 blocks against Anthony Randolph, Andris Biedrins, and Ronny Turiaf [SFGate]

Mutombo could be AR’s dad. Feels like he was scolding AR for even trying.

Yeah

That’s what I kept thinking last night. It’s weird, imagine if Randolph was his son. That would probably the first time in NBA history where a father and son are playing in the NBA at the SAME TIME. What’s funny is that Dikembe kept blocking Anthony, it’s like the Dad still pwns his son no matter what.

"Ten years? Dikembe’s been playing at least 16, 17 years."

Original quote is from somebody you all know and love for stealing bases, but it fits in here just fine!

Weak...

If Mutombo was really the star he thinks he is, he wouldn’t even need to be talking about AR…

oh man.

If only Randolph finished that dunk over Dikembe, soooo close. lol.

How crazy good of a highlight would not be. I’m not talking about whether or not Dikembe or Randolph is good, but a highlight of the youngest player in the NBA dunking on the oldest player in the NBA is pretty cool. Somewhat symbolic.
