Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

I learned one key thing. We're back to suck and it's going to stay that way for awhile. 12 years possibly. Playoffs in 2k19!

atma

usually, i’m a fan of your work around here. even when i disagree or when you voice an opinion that seems way off base, you know your stuff and are passionate about it. however, this post just seems lazy to me. it had nothing to do with the article itself, other than the superficial structure of “what you learned” and had nothing of substance to it.

if you want to post something without giving commentary on it, then go for it, but don’t just throw up a “w’s suck” with no reasoning given in the post. i’d have been happy with 5 reasons why the team is going nowhere in your commentary; i’d probably disagree (this team should get considerably better if healthy next year), but if they made sense and were actually argued, it would have been an improvement over this.

hell, even when you throw in totally unnecessary “biedrins is mediocre” or “wright is a bust” remarks to other posts, it’s sort of funny as a snide addition to a well-reasoned post about something entirely different. we know where you stand on these issues, so i don’t need to ask you why you think biedrins isn’t particularly good, i might want to argue the point, but i know about where you stand. that’s just you tossing in a dash of controversy, but this post didn’t say anything. you could have made your commentary “i miss j-rich” or “monta’s a liar” and it would have related just as much to the article, that is to say, it wouldn’t really relate much at all. write like you mean it, atma, because with stuff like this, i can’t be sure that you do.

You complain....

that much of the posting done on this site have very little quality, but I have to say your posts this whole year has extremely been pathetic. If I was an SB Nation reader from another team, I would be confused why people state Warrior’s fans as the best fans in the NBA.

by nuttinbutnet on Apr 20, 2009 10:53 AM PDT reply actions   1 recs

See here:
The Warriors registered their 12th sellout of the season in their home finale and averaged 18,943 fans this season, ninth-highest average in the NBA and second-highest in franchise history. That’s love – for a team that has gone to the playoffs once in 15 years.

The media talks about us being the best fans because, unlike the Clippers, Atlanta, Memphis, and other terrible teams, we continue to sell out the stadium, lining the pockets of our owners, the NBA, and everybody who sells ads for NBA games, despite our teams massive suckage for the last 15 yeas. Whether or not it’s we are indeed the best fans is another matter. I’d rather have the best team than the best fans.

I actually like this nickname

plus it can be used as a sexual double entendre, and those are always fun.

Kind of to cap'n hack's point, it would be a more productive discussion if you took that article

and “examined” it a bit. You have to be painfully aware of the fact that the majority of the people here have a predisposition to ripping on you regardless of what you say. If you just throw out incomplete thoughts or haphazardly endorse a piece of uninformed garbage like this Examiner cud, you’re just hitting the reset button on the Anti-Atma machine.

Maybe that’s what you want, but I really think you are helping to perpetuate lazy thinking on this site by letting people make you an easy target. There’s no thinking involved, just “Atma=Negative Jerk, must react accordingly”.

Honestly, I disagree with you about J-Rich (mostly) and Andris (you are oh so very wrong about this) but I don’t really think your other basketball takes warrant such a backlash. In fact, you’re ahead of the curve (translated: we agree) on Nelson, Cohan and the lies perpetuated by the NBA and its owners about the distribution of wealth.

As far as bashing you for your perceived negativity goes, that’s just mob-mentality ignorance at its finest. Throwing up a fanshot like this, on the front page, just encourages that type of mindless bashing and that degrades the overall quality of the posts here IMO.

Reduce your carbon footprint, commit suicide.

The negativity doesn't get to me

It’s good to see Atma can have a sense of humor about the Warriors instead of just going all Eeyore and emo. It’s really only the backhanded comments he slides in about JRich, Monta, Jax, Biedrins, and anybody else who has nothing to do with whatever he’s talking about at the time. “Yeah, there isn’t a cloud in the sky, but you know, I think it’s gonna start raining later. Just like those 3s JRich used to make that the evil moped rider who’s name shall not be uttered can’t make.”

Frankly, I think Atma is just kinda defeated by everything that’s gone on. Not as passionate about the Warriors, but still doing his job to keep the blog going, etc. See the fervor with which he attacks the news of Mutumbo’s departure? It’s still there, but a part of him has died… and that’s the part that’s hopeful and optimistic about the Warriors’ future. He’s like the guy who had this really fun girl, thought he found the one, only to have her run off with another man after he’d bought her the ring but before he’d had the chance to give it to her.

With the Warriors, there were the fun years: players who cared about the fans and a long standing “circus” image built around the ridiculous signings of Foyle and Dunleavy, but hey, it was fun, they weren’t going to win a championship, but it was fun to watch… even the bad parts. Then they became a potentially respectable team when Baron arrived, a sexy team when we got the whole team on the floor for the final 20 games, proved we belonged with a thrashing of the Mavs, continued success despite the saddening loss of JRich, followed by barely missing the playoffs and the complete and utter explosion of the team and the departure of the best parts.

He’ll eventually come back, but we’re going to have to give him some time to grieve.

master atma-b-1's comment

was a fair response to the Tafur season recap. The team has deep flaws and got its lousy record on merit. ellis’ injury actually obscured other equally serious deficiencies. (Tafur pretty accurately described the flaws in depending on ellis to make the team respectable) Two positive developments , Randolph and Morrow, would not have made the same progress if m’gette stayed healthy for more games and put it 30 min./gm., raising questions about next season, should he stay healthy. Atma-R-1’s projection isn’t a wild speculation, I’d give it a 30-40% chance of being accurate.

"I was wrong about Baron Davis"

Funny. Lots of GSOM’s fans haven’t quite come to this realization yet. Still at a loss for words at how lopsided this poll is. Are we the best fans or the stupidest fans in the league? If you voted “no” in this poll, you’re in the latter. 75% of you did…

1. I was wrong about Baron Davis. I thought the Warriors should have rewarded him for what he did for the team the last two years and just pay him, never mind how old he was, what shape he was in or how many games he would miss or take off mentally. Well, he wound up getting paid by the Clippers … and he was dreadful. His body language was terrible, clearly mailing it in some nights, and he finished the season shooting 37 percent.

37 percent! That hurts my eyes just looking at the number, never mind the actual memory of the bad shots he jacked up. The 37 percent ranked 119th in the NBA, and that’s only because the NBA.com stat only went 119 guys deep.

So, if that was Bobby Rowell who vetoed the deal that Davis and Chris Mullin worked out, good job Bobby.

Baron Davis not in a Warrior uniform was my favorite part of this season.

Dude, go to your own link

That’s 77% of you are stupid, not 75%. Though, in their defense, Baron would certainly not have been the same player in a Warriors uni under Nelson as he was in a Clippers uni under this guy:

I still don’t think it’d have been a good move to sign him. But that doesn’t make it fair to say he’d have been the same player this year as a Warrior.
