Day 12 of the NBA 2k9 Playoffs

I've got to give the Bulls their props.  They go from having the #1 pick in last year's draft (Rookie of the Year) to taking the defending champions in the first round to three overtime games.  Three?  That's right, new NBA record.  Much respect to DRose, Ben Gordon, and crew.

Yes, it's official.  As if the series didn't have enough drama, Dwight Howard is suspended for the next game against the 76ers for his flagrant foul against Samuel Dalembert.  Might make things a little tough for the Magic to finish off the series.  Look for a Game 7.

As for the Spurs and Mavs, looks like Dallas is moving on to the second round for the first time since 2006.  And who beat them back in 07 in the first round you ask?  ...I don't even want to think about it. What's more interesting (and subsequently less depressing) is that the Spurs exit in the first round was the first time since 2000.  Guess they really know how to build a strong team...

Don't look now, but the Rockets lost last night leaving them with a 3-2 lead in the series.  Just when we thought they might make it to the 2nd round...

Jump for some quick thoughts about today's games.

#5 Miami Heat at #4 Atlanta Hawks, 5 PM on TNT

Zaza Pachulia is his name.  Playing intensely in the playoffs is his game.  Remember him last year?  He single-handedly stopped KG throughout their 7 game series.  In the last game alone, Zaza pulled down 12 points and 18 boards.  Sure, D-Wade's going to bring the heat (pun intended) but it's all about Zaza if the Hawks want to gain the lead tonight...

#7 New Orleans Hornets at #2 Denver Nuggets, 7:30 PM on TNT

How do you possibly lose in the playoffs by 58 points?  They say don't give and keep fighting, but after that HUMILIATING loss, the Hornets stand no chance.  Like the Sopranos, this series is about to be over.  Find a new one to watch.

My picks

Heat at Hawks: Hawks
Hornets at Nuggets: Nuggets

If Wade’s back is still bothering him, I don’t think the Heat have a chance. I also don’t see any chance the Hornets will suddenly find that magic spell to wake them up. They are boned tonight.

Also, I got some more looks at the replays of the Rondo foul on Miller, and I’ve changed my mind and called it a flagrant 1. I’m disappointed in the NBA for not upgrading the foul to a flagrant. Tomorrow’s Bulls-Celtics game 6 will be a MUST WATCH game.

I’ll go with the Heat and the Nuggets.

Hawks & Nuggets

Dwight Howard deserved to get suspended but so does Rondo, or at least changed the foul call to a flagrant 1 at the most.

Hell yeah

Just the fact alone that Miller’s lip was bleeding from the flagrant should have been a flagrant. Just that game right there could have screwed the bulls out of a series win.

by Golden Boy on Apr 29, 2009 5:13 PM PDT up reply actions

Um, they put brad miller at the ft line to tie the game, he missed. the blood came from falling on pierce, not the rondo foul.

screwed the bulls? oh like fouling out ray allen in game 5 in the 4th quarter down 11 for breathing was screwing the bulls

Dammit, give the Celtics credit

For playing so tough without their best player and best bench player (Powe), and being forced to give minutes to the likes of Veal Scalabrine aka Semi-Pro‘s Jackie Moon. And give Rajon Rondo credit for being such a complete badass: not only clocking Miller so hard that he missed the subsequent FT — a miss which effectively swung the whole series in Boston’s favor — but also consistently outplaying the more heralded Derrick Rose, and by a wide margin. Heck, in the playoffs, Rondo’s outplaying CP3 by a wide margin…

Through 5 games

24.2 pts (.511 fg)
10.2 reb
10.2 ast
3.2 stl
2.2 tov

Averaging a triple double? That is totally sick.

Meanwhile, Perk, Pierce, and Ray have all busted ass to make up for KG’s absence. It’s pretty clearly the Year of the LeBrons, but you gotta give the Cs some props for looking every bit the part of defending champs.

IMO, Rondo has been the best non-Lebron player in the playoffs

But it was still ridiculous that he didn’t get called for a flagrant. He was clearly NOT going for the ball. Hell, he admitted as much after the game! If I were Brad Miller, as soon as the clock hit 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter in game 6, I would absolutely clobber Rondo. No questions asked. Rondo’s not a great free throw shooter anyway, and if the refs aren’t going to call that, then I’m taking advantage of it.

by genesic on Apr 29, 2009 8:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Clobber rondo, yet ironically rondo was probably clobbering Brad Miller for smirking and laughing about baitiing the refs into fouling out ray allen…or his sissy act towards glen davis, or just being out there to be an instigator in general.

neverending cycle

Good post..

Im sick of hearing how the underdog bulls are giving the defending champions all they can handle

1. The Bulls winning perecentage after the Brad Miller/ Salmons trade was good for 4th in the east
2. The celtics winning percentage without KG wasnt much better.
3. The celtics are completly exhausted, have no bench production whatsoever right now and are starting rondo, perkins and davis, 3 YOUNG PLAYERS, with pierce and allen and having to play them over 50 minutes

you need to get out of class :P

Hawks jones grabbed wade going for a layup, wade took exception and had some words for jones. Hawks and Heat converge, but the refs broke it up quickly. 2 double Ts called

I wish. It’s a damn programming class.

yes, i program in C/C++ at work

but i’ve done several other languages for fun and practice. It takes a certain mindset to do programming. For me, I have logical, mathematical, and physics type mindset, and I apply that when I design and write code. I’m a total geek, haha!

this game's getting away from the heat

if this second qtr gets way out of hand, I’d rest wade for the 2nd half and wait for the next game.
