Most Loyal Fanbase Leaving

To me we are the most loyal fanbase in the NBA.  Everytime i try to explain to someone why i like the warriors they just look at me in dumfounded amazement.  But i try to save up money to catch a ballgame take my younger siblings we even watch all the games on TV paying the extra monthly charge on our satelite for the priviledge of watching these NBDL all stars.  But it seems the rest of the fanbase has had enough.

Star-divide

Read an article on Sports Business Journal regarding TV ratings comparing the previous two years.  Here's the url for the article http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/62322.  The team with second biggest drop in percentage viewership negative 39 percent is our GS warriors.  the only team with a bigger drop is the Kings with 40 percent.  Essentialy a higher percentage of fans stopped watching this basketball team more than any franchise in the league.  And there is some seriously crummy teams out there.

Now i know this ownership thinks it knows what its doing but the numbers say differently.  I'm sure RR can understand numbers the bean counter that he is.  Imagine in an economy where people are staying home more often and not going out to save money we are still having fans turn off the warriors games.

Now i give you some may have been bandwagon from the BD glorious years/year but i think most are just warriors fans that are sick of losing.  What do you guys think and what do you think this means for us as a fanbase.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

It means

most were bandwagoners. True fans like us watch the game throughout the whole way to see how the youngsters do and what they should be doing.

I was just about to post that

Yes, most were bandwagoners who left when Baron Davis left, and the rest left when the team sucked in the early parts of the season and finally realized that We Believe was dead. I’d bet that the ratings levels have returned to the pre-We Believe era, when only the loyal fans were watching.

but

seriously this season i straight out skipped some games cause i knew we were going to lose anyways

can you seriously blame me?

by saintdee on Apr 30, 2009 6:59 PM PDT up reply actions

This

I hate wagoners and I’m glad most of em are going.

Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson, or John Wall. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.
Andre Smith in Silver & Black in 2009.

I hate those bandwagoners

A lot of people started watching the Warriors when they made the playoffs

If you want a success story just take a look at mine.

Randolph does a 360 windwill back flip triple axel dunk over Yao! You just wait and see!

Nuck le head......There are no blackouts in the NBA.

The warriors have a contract wiuth CSN to broadcast almost allt he games, all the time. regardless of attendance. True fans go to the games, and attendance was excellent at the games.

Attendance

Will still be solid. It wont be as bad as many anticipate.

Why stop now?

I’ve been watching the Warriors since I was a snot nosed teen in high school back in ‘91. I remember going to the sharks arena to watch them when oakland coleseum was being rebuilt, I’m going to watch them (foolishly admitting) regardless of their lack of play off appearances. Sorry, I love this team. hate the owners, love the team.

In fact, i may ONLY stop watching this team if ,god forbid, they one day move out of the bay area into another market. That may be too painful for me to deal with lol.

im going to games next year for sure

AR, buike, monta, morrow all are awesome to watch and i cant wait to see them play live.

Hell ya...

I’m going to games, watching them on TV, listen to Tim Roye on Radio, etc.

A Sonics fan without a team.. Though I'm auditioning GS Warriors this season.

It is sad when there are fake fans.....

but i am not one of them. The warriors are my favorite team to watch win or lose, and I feel like they can beat any team they play against (on a good night). Every time I watch the games I see glimpses of a very good team, for some reason the W’s seem to beat the good teams and lose to the bad ones. I like the direction this team is heading, I like the youth, and I like keith smart as the future head coach. I love watching and going to warriors games. Win or lose I will always be a Warriors fan.

i m still here

and tnx to whoever from 08-09 midseason NBA ILP is available in countries like Germany UK and Latvia (i just would be more thankfull if nationally televised games would not be blocked in ILP -at least while ESPN is not national television 4 me)

being a W’s fan is like to be a one of the best underground bands ever

bandwagoners come and go -and soon tey’ll be back -bet on it

I’ll believe that when I see more then 1 game go by without a sell out. Have you checked out the Warriors attendence numbers?

LOL. Exactly

My friends think that I am nuts!

for watching every single game even when only the kids are playing due to injuries, but….there is just something about this young team that is compeling…..I hope that core of this team is not traded away but that we build on it….

by Only In Fairfax on May 1, 2009 12:17 PM PDT reply actions

Fake fans... bandwagon fans...

I think all the labels really miss the point. Every team has fans that actually follow and care about the team. People like us that will actually spend time reading and writing about the team no matter the situation.

Everybody else is just looking for entertainment. Everyone likes to be entertained. You can’t really blame them for watching our team when they were at the peak of “We Believe” excitement, and tuning out for this year. Let’s hope that having a taste of high ratings will remind Cohan and Rowell that the only way to court the casual viewer is to build a winner.

We will be here even if they continue to mismanage the team and settle for mediocrity. If that wasn’t the case, none of us would still be following this team so closely.

I think that the drop off in viewership is a good sign. Lets hope that all of the casual viewers find something better to do. It’s the only way that the serious fan will have a chance at watching a winner.

Thing 2

bandwagon

i’ve been thinking about this bandwagon theme and i don’t think i agree. i mean look we werent winning any titles we were the 8th best team in the western conference not exactly the greatest accomplishment in the world. I think what happened was the desperate fans who like the warriors and are not die hard ( maybe known as casual fans) started showing up and watching once this organization showed some sign of life. We claim bandwagonnes when we’ve won a title and it’s cool to say your a warrior fan. that was my point in this post that there are tons of fans who showed up when we barely made it into the playoffs these guys exist and are actual fans just not willing to take beating after beating after beating. And every year wait for next year.

by bioecon on May 2, 2009 3:02 AM PDT reply actions

the majority of warrior fans are terrible

no offense probably next to faker fans as jokes. but the majority of season-ticket holders arent so thats what matters alot. Thats why we sell out alot because our season ticket holders. The rest of warrior fans (barring us GSOMers) are mainly bandwagoners who think Baron Davis was a top 10 player (…hahaahaha) and that he was the only reason we werent good this year. Alot of things caused this mess. Nelsons worst coaching job, Monta’s moped, harrington for crawford, maggette being out, jackson being out and not playing well until that february.

by montadaboss on May 2, 2009 12:43 PM PDT reply actions

Well

some people like their teams to actually win. I might just be a little more competitive then alot of you but watching my team get destroyed makes me angry I dont like looking at blowouts and say oh he looks like hes improving and he did this better i want to win and i want the warriors to win. I’m not going to waste my money to go to games knowing my team is going to be garbage and lose by 20. I’d rather watch on tv or read the results in the paper until this organization does something about it I’m not going to widen cohens pockets for crap like alot of you are so you can call yourselves loyal fans please.

by Warriorfan on May 2, 2009 2:14 PM PDT reply actions

yeah we are talking about the tv ratings though.

so that wouldnt be a huge deal because you can still watch on tv. the tv ratings went down a TONNNNN

by montadaboss on May 2, 2009 3:54 PM PDT reply actions

There are two things that sell tickets:

WInning, or potential.

People will buy season tickets to see a young player who they think is going to be something special.

The problem with our total disarray is that Maggs and Jackson were being sold as the future of the franchise, but they’re so obviously not. The front office disarray, and the lack of anything that looks remotely like a realistic plan to compete for more than the 8th spot in the playoffs, it going to be hard to get people excited about turning on the TV.
