Next Years Team.
When it comes to next years team this offseason will probably be just as important as last years offseason. I think there is a chance that most of the bench could be an entirely different next year.
People staying: Monta, Randolph, Biedrens, Maggette, Turiaf, Morrow, Azibuike, Jackson
Players that need to get moved: Wright (will never get a good chance will Randolph there) and Belinelli (too much of a team player for the Warriors, passes the ball to everyone but never gets passed to), Crawford (if he dont opt out him and monta cant coexist he needs the ball too much, nice guy though)
Players dont need to resign: CJ Watson, Kurz, Davidson
Free Agents to get: Brandon Bass and Jay Kidd
Players to Draft: Best player available perferably a Big Man or Point Guard.
Maybe Thabeet or a guard that kidd could mentor to play along with monta.
2009-2010 Possible Line Up
PG Kidd
SG Monta
SF Jackson
PF Randolph
C Biedrens
Bench: Maggette, Morrow, Bass, Turiaf, Azibuike
The rest of it could fill with either trades or free agency like a back PG
What direction do you guys think that the warriors will go next year?

our team is structured to have a mixed pg not true
What Nelly wants to do is have Monta play point because he’s too small to be a sg hence why he wants to move Jack to his natural position at the 2.
Monta / CJ
Jack / Morrow
Buike / Maggs
Randolph / Wright
Biedrins / Turiaf
This lineup would be pretty nasty if they could keep healthy. They’d be tall and be able to rebound and we’d probably have the best bench in the NBA. Anyone care to mention who has a more talented bench?

hmm
Farmar
Sasha
Walton
Powell
Mbenga
That’s a more talented bench then ours? Elaborate… 2 of these players were waived by us.
Sergio Rodriguez
Rudy Fernandez
Outlaw
Channing Frye
Oden
Really? Besides Oden…
Gibson
Sasha
Wally
Hickson
Joe Smith
Let’s face it… it’s our starters that are the problem, not our bench anymore. Blame it on the injuries.

Maggette and Outlaw are both in the top 5 6th men in the NBA
Frye only plays if Oden and Przybilla get in foul trouble. Martell Webster and Jerryd Bayless also are bench players. LaMarcus Aldridge plays until Brandon Roy comes back in then Travis Outlaw moves to the 4 and Brandon and Rudy play wings with a PG. Our bench is usually only 9 guys. I say all this because Frye sucks ass and I don’t want him associated with our solid bench. Utah also has good backups.

Both are top 5?
Ginobili, Terry, Barbosa, JR Smith, Nate Robinson. Which 2 of those guys do you put Maggette AND Outlaw ahead of? Sorry, man, but I smell some pretty serious homerism there.

3/2
y’r first three are better, JRSmith would be behind Maggette, and Nate might, might be a toss up – but point well made, it’s not cut & dried particularly for Outlaw (though can you imagine Outlaw playing for a Nelson team?!)
by hardcore on Apr 6, 2009 7:59 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
yea my point was more about Outlaw. I think Maggette is in the top 5 discussion and most would agree he’s top 5, but I’m not certain Outlaw is even a top 10 6th man.

interesting, no Ginobli - did he start that many games this year? … but you got backup for your man Outlaw (tipping cap) and I’d still like to see him play for a Nelsonesque team just to see what he could do at that pace & style …

i’d guess ginobili wasn’t on there due to his injury issues this year, but when healthy, he’s clearly top 5.

That is not going to happen
because the Kings are not going to suddenly start winning games and the Warriors aren’t going to lose on purpose. I say we get a good draft pick like Thabeet. We don’t need a point guard, Monta is our point guard of the future.

You know there’s a lottery for the top three picks, right? The KIngs have a better shot at hitting lotto than we do; that doesn’t mean we (or any of the five teams between us) have no shot. As the #7 seed, our chances of hitting lotto (i.e. a top 3 pick) are 15% — slightly better than the chances of Jamal Crawford missing a free throw.
Also, Thabeet is almost certainly going to go before #7, so our chances of getting “a good draft pick like him” are only slightly better than our chances of getting a good draft pick like Blake Griffin.

CJ Watson? he’s young and has grown
He’s done more than anyone has expected.
IF we can get a better young point guard out there draft so be it
Watson has proven he can hit clutch shots. Doesn’t make a lot of mistakes
Needs to improve defense is all.

I agree on most accounts
Brandan Wright’s going to be a solid well-rounded big, but if the right player became available, I think Wright has more value on our trading block than in our rotation. I’d only want to include him if someone of Bosh’s calibur were available though, someone quality.
I like Belinelli’s game but he’s the last guard in the depth chart now and it’ll be near impossible for him to get himself back into the rotation. Unfortunately, I don’t think he holds much trade value around the league.
I agree on CJ Watson too, kids like him are a dime-a-dozen. I’d rather have a real veteran PG on the floor, I think that’s what we’re missing the most: a floor general who knows when to control the clock, take the 2-for-1, use the foul-to-give, etc. It’s those little mind lapses that kill us every game and it’s because we don’t have a veteran PG on the floor (SJax does not count).
I disagree on Brandon Bass though. He’s an unskilled garbage player who’s only in the league because we handed the Mavs their azz in the 1st round upset and Mark Cuban wanted an undersized “athletic banger” just for us.
Jason Kidd’s still one of the elite true PG’s in the league, I just don’t see Mark Cuban ever letting him go. I think Kidd’s going to retire as a very overpaid Dallas Maverick.

I agree on CJ Watson too, kids like him are a dime-a-dozen.
I think that’s a little harsh. CJ hasn’t taken quite enough threes to qualify for the rankings there, but if he did he’d rank 17th in the league, and he’s 26th in the league in free-throw shooting. He’s become a pretty decent little scorer. He’s also a more effective passer than people seem to realize, and he can really mess with opponents’ passing lanes… he records more steals on a per-minute basis than all but nine other players. Of course, his lack of lateral quickness makes him a pretty crappy defender in most other ways, and that really hampers his value. He’s not good enough to start anywhere in the league. But CJ is a useful piece to have. He’s probably the most underrated Warrior amongst fans right now.
I do think a good defensive PG would be a better complementary backup to Monta. But if we can keep CJ for $2 million per or less, it’s worth considering. Wouldn’t kill us to add another little efficient value contract for trading purposes.

CJ isn’t a pg. He’s a combo guard on his best nights, and a small sg on his mediocre nights. I agree with your point that a defensive PG is ideal to back up next year. I think that if we go and acquire a PG in the draft/FA/Trade, we should let CJ walk for a better chance else where. CJ has come a long way since last year, but he still has trouble making routine PG plays. His next step is to learn how to run a fast break.

One other CJ bonus
is that he does not seem to need consistent minutes to do what he does. He could easily be our 11th man. There is really no reason not to keep him, as long as the money makes sense.

there's nothing at all wrong with Kurz
as the 12th man. It’s good for a team to have a couple of guys at the end of the bench who will do their work, stay ready, cost almost no money and not expect PT.

If there's room to sign an aging PG (Kidd)
There should be room to consider keeping Belinelli. If Crawford and CJ Watson are out of the picture next year, there is room for Belinelli. Don’t give up on him yet!!!

I'd love to trade Jackson
He goes one-on-one too often, and that contract is a real bear. Signing him to that extension was a huge mistake.
I think he’s incredibly valuable as a role player, but unfortunately on this team he seems to think of himself as a first option, and Nellie seems unwilling to even try to put some discipline into his play.
Maggs is also a player I’d be happy to see go. Ideally Randolph will be playing a lot of 3 by the end of next season, and it’d be nice to clear some minutes for him there, and thus, some minutes for Wright at the 4.
The team needs a distributor who’s big enough to guard shooting guards, or, barring that, Monta to develop some real point-guard skills. But he’s going to need a full training camp for that, at least, so we’ll have to hope he stays off his scooter this summer.
by Ronaldinho on Apr 6, 2009 1:50 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
almost untradeable
not in the “no way, i never want to trade him” way, but in the “who is going to take on that absurd contract we just gave him?” way. he’s one of our better options at the 2/3 despite his problems, so i guess it’s not so bad to be stuck with him for now, but that extention was mystifying. i don’t want to see jack 3 years from now killing our cap space and dragging on the court. particularly considering the damage to his body from playing the minutes he has been this year. good thing we shut him down for the season…
