RECAP: Warriors 105 Kings 100 - The Final Three Minutes
I'm, I'm sky high. I'm, I'm sky high.
4th Quarter, 2:50 minutes left to go in the game. Warriors use a timeout. 98-91 Warriors.
No, no, no, NOOOOOOO!!! I've seen this before. We're up, only a few minutes left, and the Kings are making a comeback.
I know EXACTLY how this ends.
Defense collapses, the Kings go on a run, I start yelling at my TV, we go to overtime and lose.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Alright. Jason Thompson at the line. The guy is pretty good for a rookie. But nothin on my man Anthony Randolph! Let's just ignore his poor shooting night and look at his awesome rebounding night...13 boards = happy R Dizzle.
Yes! Thompson misses the first free throw. And the second! Booke with the board!
Speaking of Azubuike, takln about rebounding (pun intended) after a poor game! The guy's been on fire tonight! Except for that missed shot. Nuts.
And, the Kings score. 98-93 Warriors. Great.
Wait, wait, there's CJ with the made shot! WORD! 100-93. 2 minutes left. Maybe we won't be giving this game up!
Great, I jinxed it. Kings score again. 100-95.
CJ with the bad pass, 100-97. 1 minute left.
Arghh....
Forget this, I'm not doing this to myself again.
I REFUSE to watch another overtime game again. I can't do it. I can't do it.I can do it.
Ya know why? CAUSE THE KINGS ARE THE WORST TEAM IN THE NBA!
That's why the keep missing their shots.
Over. And. Over. And. Over. Again.
Except that ridiculous three right there by Bobby Jackson.
I'm liking this final score.
105 - 100 Warriors.
One question though.
How in the world did we just win 3 games with a 7 man rotation which comprised our bench?
I think this time I'm going to have to give it to an ex-Warrior.
I like your stat line - 3 minutes, 0 points, 0 boards, and 0 assists. Glad to see you back in California man.
Just kidding....

Lack of EGO!
These guys as I said before, I believe are a unit that has played a lot together in Practice against the main starting 5. You can see there is an enthusiasm, energy and genuine desire to fight for everything which a couple of our “Vets” could take note of. I think this group of players has come to gether to prove that;
A: To Don Nelson that his stupid DNPCD’s during the year are a bloody joke and that people deserve to be on court if they are playing well, not because they wish to stay on court ‘a la Jackson’.
B: To the missing players that these guys feel they can get the job done just as well as the ‘supposed’ starters.
These three wins have not been flukes, they have been ground out hard, playing better team ball, better defense and with better ball movement that I have seen for mot of the year.
Maybe…..these guys are our starting lineup for next year and we bring Monta, Jackson et al, off the bench!!! ;)

Don’t get too excited, you gotta remember two of the wins were squeakers over sacto, one of the worst teams in the league and the other was an atrocious effort from the NewawlinsAints. This “magnificent 7” would likely be about a .250 pct team for a whole season ?
Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?
I noticed there's so many of them
and there's really not that many of us.

.250 seems optimistic. i love what they’ve been doing these past few games, but a couple scrappy wins do not equate to real, long term success at the nba level. something tells me azubuike can’t put up that beautiful stat line over the course of a whole season. the team when healthy is much much better than these 7 guys can be by themselves. still, the way they’ve been playing should be taken into account when the monta and co. return to the floor. they’re playing good basketball right now.

These games are auditions to get more playing time.
Buike has been in the rotation all year long, nellie does play him.
What we need is sjax and monta not playing 40 mins a game, and these guys are showing that they can take the load off the starters. That is what is important.

no argument here
i’m very pleased with the way our 7 healthy guys have been playing; all i’m saying is that we shouldn’t get carried away. my point about kelenna wasn’t that he shouldn’t play much, but that these wins are coming with herculean performances from players who won’t usually be that good over the course of a season. but you’re right, it’s good to see that our bench players can step up when needed and i’m looking forward to next season. smiles, everyone, smiles!

buike has been getting strong games all year long
(other than his weak start). He has been breaking his career highs only because he is playing more, not necessarily better.

30 and 15
that’s not a strong game; that’s an amazing game. he could play 48 minutes all year and not average that.

Yes but.....
On any other night…when even a crappy team has a player score 50 points…you woul normally expect that team to win….But our youngsters really fought hard for that win and that was great effort.
My point being, the effort being shown by these guys is something that those who are missing should be taking note of (not that they will I suspect). If Jackson, Monta, Magette and co were putting in the effort these young guys are….. we could be a VERY dangerous team next year, providing all can stay healthy!

right there with you. i’m ready for next year. this team, if healthy can compete for a playoff spot. i want to be cheering for a team in a race for playoff position, not lottery position.

i wouldn't take away the win against Nawlins.
sure chandler was missing but that is still a strong playoff team and to show that a team of 7 bench players can beat a team with possibly the best PG in the league is saying something, fluke or not.
but +1 to the rest.

Very well put Brit Dub.
+37777777
I couldn’t agree with you more. Even during the middle of the season I complained about it on GSoM and screaming my lungs out in the games.
PUT IN RANDOLPH!!! PUT IN MORROW!!!
Why in the flying hell don’t you play AR? Why in the flying hell don’t you play Mr Shot Smoov in A-Mo? Why in the flying hell didn’t you play Rob Kurz after his career game vs. the Nuggets?
Rob Kurz had 20 points. 7 Boards. 1 assists. 2 steals. 2 blocks. and shot perfect from the free throw line.
We played Orlando the next game and you reward him with a DNPCD?! are you freggin kidding me?
JC, stack jack, Buike all had terrible shooting games. There was plenty of minutes to be shared to give to Kurz and AR that game (who only played 2 minutes.)
I don’t think Kurz is anything spectacular but I do like his game. He is overlooked with his defense which I think he plays well in defending inside the paint. He is a pretty good rebounder and can shoot the 3.
I think Kurz could have repeated those numbers that he put up against Denver and shut down Gortat who went off on us that game.
Like seriously? Why do you play stupid mind games with these players… Nellie? I just don’t get it. You need to reward players (especially our young guys) after a good game and build their confidence. Not kill it.
This is why I have become a Nellie Hater. Yes he was perfect for the 2007 We Believe team. Yes he was perfect for that 48 win team last season.Yes he is a good coach, but HELL TO THE FREGGIN NO does he deserve the high praise he gets with the crap he pulls that I just mentioned above.
You said it best Brit:
To Don Nelson that his stupid DNPCD’s during the year are a bloody joke.

We played the Kings twice
and they’re the single worst team in the league this year. We also got lucky at home against a New Orleans team that lacks imagination on offense. Don’t read too much into these wins, though it is nice for the young guys to get a little confidence.
by Neon on Apr 6, 2009 12:18 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nellie needs to remind some of the players about a basic NBA rule
Always feed the frickin hot hand – not 5-21 crawford, but how a bout 7-14 morrow or 6-10 CJ. This was the 2nd time cold jamal kept shooting and missing and not driving to the basket. And miss clutch fts.
Morrow was again exactly at 50% – 7-14 fg, 4-8 3pt. He does need to learn not to foul as much.
Kurz played 8 mins, scored 4 pts, 2 rebound and 2 blocks – his D wasn’t that good, but could have been used a bit more to give some of the others some rest. We need to sign someone to an 10 day contract in case someone else gets injured! How about that Hendrix guy?
btw – box score links to the hornets game.
by mosdl on Apr 6, 2009 10:15 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
The guy playe the whole game FFS.......
Crawford might just be a little bit tired. As to Nellie reminding his players about the hot hand…hahahahh this is funny, the man himself does not even recognise the hot hand and so many times this year took Morrow or Randolph off when they were playing well, yet left in a cold SJack.
So he can hardly advise the players to do something he wont do himself.

by R Dizzle on Apr 6, 2009 10:34 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
In reality, we did it with only 6 players
Kurz only played 8 minutes. Crawford and Buike played the full 48 minutes, with Morrow playing 45. Morrow probably would have played the full 48 had he not been in foul trouble. Turiaf was feeling sick, so he didn’t play as many minutes as he normally would. So you can make the claim that the Kings lost to a 5 1/2 man rotation.
In any case, you can just see Randolph and Morrow getting comfortable and into the flow of the game. I thought the Warriors game flow was pretty fun to watch in the 2nd half, particularly in the 3rd when they started to run away with the game. Granted, the Kings aren’t defensive masterminds this season, but it was fun to watch these 6 guys come together and look for each other on offense and on defense. And this was after the Warriors had gotten off to as low as 13% (!!!) shooting in that 1st qtr.
Add in a terrific bounce-back game from Buike, a solid contribution from CJ (after going into a slump several weeks ago), and Turiaf making his presense felt despite his sickness, and you got a knockout punch that the Kings couldn’t recover from, despite our Warriors entering fatigue mode late in the 4th.

Hendrix is stacking up double double in the d league like they were hotcakes.
Letting him walk was such an idiotic move. In the face of the other egregious actions by the front office it will get swept under the rug.
Until we play him and he makes us pay for it. I was all for sending him to the d league, but he should not have been cut.
by Nuck Chorris on Apr 6, 2009 10:48 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
How is it idiotic if the guy’s still available? We can just re-sign him any time we like. The franchise has made a number of boneheaded moves in the last several months, but this wasn’t one of them.
by onlxn on Apr 6, 2009 11:11 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes paying twice for the same player after making bench fodder of Davidson and Kurz makes so much sense.
In effect we paid 3 times because the Warriors were paying Davidson too.
Are Davidson and Kurz possible NBA bench prospects? Yes.
Are they worth ONE Richard Hendrix. Doubtful.
This was directly connected to the Williams issue so don’t act like this isn’t related to other boneheaded moves.
I’ve said it when they drafted Hendrix, but that guy’s a “Bargain Barkley” with better physique and a quieter mouth.
by Nuck Chorris on Apr 6, 2009 11:39 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Injuries
Hendrix was injured all through camp and summer league, which hurt his chances.
Kurz well, he won a summer league game for us and Nellie I guess liked him enough to give him a chance (given his 8 mins of playing I assume Nellie isn’t very interested anymore).
Davidson was signed much later and got a pro-rated salary – plus he is proven to be NBA ready (and has a jump shot – instant Nellie love). Demarcus was waived most likely because he had no jump shot.
But I also agree that we should get hendrix back, sign him this season to a 10 day contract.
by mosdl on Apr 6, 2009 3:20 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, I'm familiar. The salaries are less, but I just wanted to point out that W's are paying progressively production that doesn't make an immediate difference.
I would neither be opposed to getting hendrix back nor taking a second look at Demarcus Nelson.
He has been working on his jump shot a lot in the D league, and is still a freakish defender who can initiate a fast break (though he may not know what to do with it yet).
by Nuck Chorris on Apr 6, 2009 11:01 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don't think I've seen Hendrix play a game of basketball for the Warriors
or at least I don’t remember. _
The Warriors should hire him for next season. I don’t think we’ll lose anything. We could have at least given the guy a chance to get well and show what he’s made of.
Kelenna is mine...;>

Yes paying twice for the same player after making bench fodder of Davidson and Kurz makes so much sense.
I could be wrong but I think that Hendrix had a non-guaranteed contract so we aren’t still paying him. You can criticize the move to waive him but he is still not playing on an NBA team so it’s not like those D-league stats count for much. Who’s to say that Kurz or Davidson wouldn’t be putting up the same kind of numbers?
Now if he were putting up numbers in the NBA right now you’d have a much stronger case but a this point there is no real reason to be upset with the move outside of some personal fondness you have for him.
BTW, how are his fouls lately because I remember that was an issue for him earlier in the year. If he has learned to control his foul rate he could be worth a look again.

The NBA has made it very clear Golden State Warriors get very little support from them or their writers....
More often than not the NBA post game recap guys often come up with some snide comment or generally just dont give this team enough credit when it’s due.
