Warriors Elect Not To Renew Chris Mullin's Contract; Promote Larry Riley To GM
What was originally reported by MT2 has been made official:
"The Golden State Warriors announced today that the club has elected not to renew the contract of Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin. In a related move, the team has named Larry Riley as the club’s new General Manager...
Riley has accumulated 20-plus years of NBA experience in various capacities prior to being named GM of the Warriors, including a six-year stint as Director of Player Personnel for the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies from 1994-95 to 1999-00. The Indiana native also spent six seasons as an assistant coach/scout with the Milwaukee Bucks (1988-89 to 1993-94) and six years with the Dallas Mavericks in the same capacity (2000-01 to 2005-06)."

The funny thing is that Rowell and Ridder don't have the balls to say Mullin has just been fired.
What is it called when you lose your position with your employer and they don’t give you new responsibilities (unless keeping your mouth shut counts)?
Oh yeah, being fired.
So what is Mullin for the next month and a half? A scout (for the Knicks?)
Good for Mullin, Par for Warriors management (still a nutshot to the fans).
IF HE IS SUCH A FAN FAVORITE THEN WHY ARE YOU LETTING HIM GO BOBBY? WHY ARE YOU LETTING HIM GO BOBBY?
Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell? Oh no hide the children!

Well
last season was horrible, and the fact remains that we’ve never been anything more than an 8 seed, so maybe it’s time for a change. I have a feeling that this guy isn’t going to be much more than a puppet controlled by Don Nelson.
Also, his track record doesn’tl ook very good to me….he was a scout for the mediocre late 80s and early 90s bucks, and was the director for player personnel for the horrible Vancouver Grizzlies. Also, he was an assistant coach and “advance scout” for the early Cuban Era Mavericks. Still, the fact remains, in his most GM-like positions, he was working for….the Grizzlies.
In any case, it’s too early to judge, just offering some thoughts.

"One of his primary strengths is his ability to work with a group of people to achieve a common goal,…"
Translation: He’ll do CC/RR/DN’s bidding like a witless yes-man. Sweet.

Now...
I would like to see if Mullin ever shares his side of the story. Thanks Mully for giving us a winning team for the first time in fifteen years. You will be missed.

experience
Well, hopefully his 20+ years of experience will be of some good. It is better than Mullin coming in w/ ZERO years of managerial experience when he became our GM 5 years ago.
Ellis to the RIM!
Monta for the win?! YES!

Rowell said he helped get us some D-leaguers in the news conference
I think we give too much credit to Mullin. Obviously he is not some kind of superhuman scout that can find every good trade or free agent/D league player. The warriors have a full scouting staff and the GM really just makes the final decision. If it’s true that Riley found some of those players, then I say keep ’em coming.
