Deep In the Heart of Houston, Texas

I will be cheering for the Rockets to do the impossible this Sunday. Not only am I arguably the biggest Laker hater alive and breathing air, but I admire Rick Adelman to the bone. This guy is a superb coach. I'm more than proud to say he has coached our Warriors back in the day. It's just unfortunate we didn't supply him with a good team. When that day comes that a lot of you are waiting for, which is Nelly leaving town, I'd love for the Dubs to go after Rick. Although it more than likely wouldn't happen, this time he'd inherit a talented Warrior group.

No one deserves this series win more than Coach Adelman. This man has never reigned supreme over Phil Jackson in the postseason, although he should have back in 2002. We all know that Western Conference Finals series with this same Faker franchise was rigged. It just took six years for the league and/or the media to finally admit it last year. His old TrailBlazers lost two Finals series to the Bad Boys of Detroit and then the Phil Jackson coached Bulls.

Heading into this season, the Rockets were my pick to win the whole thing. They were already deep from top to bottom, plus they added Ron Artest in the offseason. However, T-Mac's season ended prematurely. They had other guys to work together to fill his void. Then late in the season, they signed a 40+ year old but still productive center in Dikembe Mutombo to bolster their front line to work with the likes of Scola, Yao, and Landry. In the first round, Mutombo's great career ended prematurely with his injury in Portland. Then with T-Mac and Mt. Mutombo already out, add insult to even more injury, and there goes Yao for the rest of the playoffs. Now without Yao and Dikembe both out, you have a small team... You basically have a team like us.

Almost the whole world, including myself, thought the Rockets would get smashed by the Lakers. They destroyed the Lakers in game 4. Then they got humiliated and were destroyed by an even 40 points in game 5. So then I thought now that the Lakers know to take the Rockets seriously, they're going to end it in game 6. Well, the rest is history as game 7 is just days upon us.

So us Laker haters, let's cheer our butts off on Sunday for this Rocket squad. With a full and healthy roster, this team is nowhere near underdog status. However, given the hand they've got now against the team that they're playing, this is as low of an underdog as you can get. Yes, I'd say even lower than our 8th seeded team of two years ago, because the Mavericks just weren't that intimidating at all. Plus to add to this underdog story, now-starting center Chuck Hayes is an undrafted NBA player who was born right here in the Bay Area (Thanks to my boy Romes for pointing that out). Another Bay Area/Warriors tie is of course Brent Barry, who is the son of one of our finest ever, Rick Barry.

Houston, L.A., we have a problem. GO ROCKETS!!!

Thanks for all the support...

Beating the Lakers this way would be my dream come true. I am a die hard Rockets fan and I bet I could probably compete with you for Lakers hater.

Also, I hope Golden State figures out something good with their basketball team because I’ve always admired the Warrior’s fans. That stadium sells out even when you don’t have a good team. I wish the Rockets fans were like that all the time. While I can’t complain about the fan response during the postseason, during the regular season it is often weak.

Thanks for the acknowledgement

You guys deserve success. Yao and T-Mac are cursed with those damn nagging injuries. Good luck on Sunday.

i'm definitely rooting for the rockets...

i think i would be happier than some houston fans to see the rockets pull through just out of pure hatred for the lakers

Anyways, I am also rooting for the Rockets. I mean, how can anyone not?! All Warriors fans should be a die hard Rockets fans this coming couple of days til Sunday. They’re probably going to lose Game 7 but who cares? The lone fact that they’re taking the Lakers to Game 7 is unbelievable. And also, I’m now a fan of Luis Scola. The guy does not quit and I want him as a Warrior.

yea

that could be interesting, they certainly wouldn’t stand pat….but what would they do? Do they consider dealing Gasol? Bynum?

Seriously, what the Rockets have done against the Lakers has been unbelievable in my mind. Losing two of their franchise players and still taking the Lakeshow to a game 7!? Inspiring in my opinion. Brooks and Scola have stepped up big time. Both have been given some pretty difficult assignments: Scola is basically their only decent big man, up against Gasol, Bynum, while Brooks (in his sophomore season) has been tasked with running the offense.
Hats off to the Rockets this season, clutch performances are coming from both ends of the bench.

Adelman

Did a terrible job when he coached the W’s.He drove Hardaway out of town because he thought it was a good idea to start BJ armstrong.

The games Hardaways was starting

We weren’t winning anyway, so he just wanted to take a new approach. It’s not like Adelman wanted Timmy outta here. Timmy chose to have Timmy outta here.

i dont care

how the rockets win, whether a blowout or close game, i just hope they beat them fakers on sunday, shut up that faker crowd, and go play denver for a great WCF. i hate the lakers so much, jus like u golden boy, and it would make me so happy if the fakers lost. Im gonna be sittin on my couch wit my homies and rooting for the rockets as if they were the Warriors. Go Rockets!

The only time I cheer for the Fakers

is if our playoff positioning depends on a win from them. It made me sick to my stomach having to cheer for the Fakers when they played the Mavericks last year late in the season when the Mavs were in a tight race with us for the 8th spot.

haha true

thats the only time i cheer for them too.

+1

I’d love to see the lakers implode and fall on their fat faces after all the talking they did this season.

Then the Lakers get one year to kiss kobe’s bunghole and get a championship or it’s laterade.

My prediction, Stern’s going to get Lebron his ring then have to make a deal with Phil Jackson for next year.

Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell? Oh no hide the children!

by Nuck Chorris on May 15, 2009 5:46 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

going to be tough for the Rockets seeing as how the refs are going to do as much as they possibly can get away with in order to make Stern’s dream final of Kobe vs Bron a reality.

by the evil monkey on May 16, 2009 2:17 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I know

But I can’t help to just watch and cheer adamantly for a Laker elimination. Who knows? Maybe behind the scenes the dream finals is Melo vs Lebron. When they first came into the league, the debate was always who was the better pick of ’03. We can call hope, right.?.?

plus the Chauncey Billups/Denver revival storyline is probably the best one the NBA has going for them right now.

You have a point

But the one who makes Stern and the rest of the NBA is the Hollywood team, who has the NBA’s #1 player of selling jerseys. But however… I just want the Fake Show outta there. GO HOUSTON!!!

by Golden Boy on May 16, 2009 4:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

ratings generated from LA or NY markets > ratings generated by storylines

in reality, Stern hopes for Lakers VS Knicks/Boston every year. his dream scenario is Bron going to the Knicks and a finals series of Lakers VS Knicks, Kobe VS Bron, and, of course, going to 7 games. (provided he allows himself to imagine it in his head,) he’d probably unconsciously drool if someone were to ask him what his thoughts would be if that scenario happened.
