The Lakers- How do you see them?
I responded to a post similar to this on Niners Nation. Arkie49er over there wanted to know how long we've been a 49er fan and what made us a 9er fan. That was a hella cool post. Anyway, I'm influenced by Arkie to conduct this post as far as the Lakers go. The majority of us who use this forum love the Warriors. Of course as our Warriors are in the same state as the Lakers, I'm sure most of us either like or hate the Lakers. With that being said, I'm interested to know what side are you on of theirs, and why?
My first season of following the NBA was the '93-'94 season, which was Chris Webber's rookie year with us. My first NBA game I attended was the Warriors vs Lakers. Magic Johnson was the interim head coach of the Lakers. It was our last home game of the year. We blew them away. That season, the Lakers were a mediocre team. But then the next year, the Lakers made some key pick-ups in adding Cedric Ceballos and Eddie Jones.
If you followed the Warriors back then, you know all about the Webber departure fiasco. Anyway, it was a definite change in direction of the year before of where the Warriors and Lakers both went. I wouldn't say I was a Laker fan, but I at least supported them to do well because I liked the trio of Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, and Cedric Ceballos. However, that all changed years later when Shaq, Kobe, and Phil Jackson came to town.
Ever since the 2000 season, I've seen the Lakers play dirty and get away with murder on the court. Shaq can slam or even throw whoever's guarding him to the floor, and nothing would be called. Despite his basketball God-like skills, Kobe still had to cheat and play dirty on the court (Think back '02 while elbowing Bibby in the face, yet Bibby's called for the foul). On top of that, he has to talk crap to his defenders. I personally like players who let their game to their talking for them. As far as Phil, I've just always seen him as an arrogant and conceited jerk. I've never been able to give the Lakers their props since 2000 because of their special treatment. I've never seen them win fair and square. I mean I've always known most of their series wins were fixed, but they just finally admit it last year for the 2002 series vs the Kings.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

You liked Nick the Quick and Ceballos? I didn’t even think Laker fans liked those two.

Who knows?
Maybe that’s why I liked them.

ha
maybe but those guys are right up there in the second or third tier of most hated Lakers for me, behind the likes of Vujacic, Rick Fox, Kobe and D-Fish

Are you saying that Vujacic, Rick Fox, Kobe and D-Fish are your favorite Lakers?

no way. it’s not an opinion to say that those guys are the most evil lakers. that is objective fact. they don’t agree on anything that’s a matter of opinion.

if you mean the current lakers team....
I think they are too soft to win it all. I think if they dont pick there game up no way they can get past cleveland and possibly not denver. I think they are the most talented team in the nba, but players like gasol, odom can be outmuscled by rough teams like boston last year and cleveland now.

It will be interisting
Kobe doesn’t like being pushed around either and if anything, Denver will push them.

Just cant respect them.
There’s an arrogance about the whole organization that screams of entitlement. If they don’t do good, It’s everyone’s fault but there’s and if they do great, "see, told you we are great" I just can’t get behind that. This comes mostly from Koby, Phil and this rubs off to the rest of the team. Also the “fans” who have never seen them play live (I’m in Reno and there’s a lot of that up here, won’t even make the trip to Sac to see a game).
Also at the beginning of the game Sunday where Kobe ran up the back of a defender to get a rebound and they called a foul on someone who wasn’t even close to the play and right after that they gave Fisher a 3 when his foot was half way across the line. I’m not saying the Rockets should have won that game but to give a team an advantage that early is a huge bonus, so the officiating has a lot to do with it as well.
When I was a kid watching Magic play was a lot of fun, but ever sense Kobe became the star the team makes me puke a little when I see them.
Shaq I always liked because he is just so fun and goofy and his throwing dudes off him like grains of sand is just cus he’s so big, it can be deceiving just how strong he is.
There's a party in my mind.
And I wish that I was there.

I hate the lakers...period point blank!
I hate everything about them especially kobe. I respect kobe’s game but he’s just an arrogant a$$. What makes the lakers even more unbearable are the fans….oooooo i cant stand them! riding around with their laker flags on the window…they can all fall down some stairs. It just seems like they’re rich pompous jerks that figure their team is unbeatable. Even when they do lose, somehow somebody cheated them. whats really sad is that lakers fans will boo their own team if they’re losing. Then they leave when the game is pretty much over in the fourth. To me thats not a real fan. A real fan sticks around for the good and the bad; they dont boo, rather, shout something encouraging.

Yeah their fans irritate the bejesus out of me
However, I have left some Warrior games early. Like if the Lakers are here. If I know the Lakers have it won, I leave. The reason why is because I don’t want to see the Lakers celebrate. As far as booing when the team does bad, I totally feel you on that. Yeah our Warriors aren’t doing good. But bad or good, this is my team, and I love them for that.

I see them as one of the historically biggest and best dynasties in the NBA
Showtime Lakers, 3-Peat Lakers, Jordan era Bulls, 80’s Celtics, Zeke led Pistons, Twin Tower and 21st Century Spurs, and lastly the mid 90’s Rockets. Kobe’s Lakers are the new team to hate as (1) They are LA and (2) Kobe leads them. They are the Yankees and the Patriots of the NBA. In terms of ‘dirtiness’, I think only Kobe is the one that has a history of dirty plays. I love the old school NBA days were there was more drama, hard fouls, and emotion, but sadly Stern has watered down the league to where it seems too soft at times. In my opinion I think the Celtics are alot more dirter than the Lakers with KG being a douche on the court, Allen with the elbows, Perkins with the attitude and Flagrants, and Rondo with his dirty playoff run.
Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson, or John Wall. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.
Andre Smith in Silver & Black in 2009.

Growing up in Long Beach and Orange County in the 80’s/90’s, I got a heavy dose of Laker fandom from pretty much everyone in the entire metropolitan area. There was something about the glitz, glamour and flash that drove me away from the Lakers, however. No idea what caused it; maybe my Dad snuck into my room when I was asleep and whispered anti-Laker propaganda to me. At any rate, I was about the only person I knew who chose to be a Clipper fan rather than a Laker fan.
It’s too bad, because I think if you judge the team on its merits, the 80’s Lakers were highly entertaining, skilled and talented. Their fans are so loathsome that it kind of tempers any enthusiasm I might have for their team, however.

hated the lakers enough since the 70s but
hate them even more now, and Kobe’s rape charges just cemented it further

yep.
If a Kobe or Vick were on a team I rooted for I would be writing letters to get rid of that player and not putting any money into it until they were gone.

My problem with Kobe isn’t so much about the rape thing (I’m not saying the allegations are untrue, but I think most of us would be extremely skeptical of them if they were against Joe Montana or another Bay Area sports legend) My problem with Kobe is that he’s such a little B*TCH in general.

Unless Mark Gasol becomes a dominant all-star type of center, then I’ll consider the trade even.

It sucks being down in LA, because you get a constant reminder how bad your team is when you are surrounded by people who root for a good team.
But I don’t really have anything against the Lakers. All these Lakers fans giving me s**t, on the other hand, I can deal with them winning but they take extra pleasure in making sure I know that my team is not winning.
But hopefully, my day will come.

how can no one make mention of the worst player on the lakers roster?
LUKE WALTON anyone???
vujacic is a pussy. he only gets in people’s faces when he has like 6 other lakers behind him.
kobe’s great though. i developed some real respect for him when he was in beijing delivering us the gold medal.
by jchao204 on May 19, 2009 2:57 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
True
i hate Vujacic too, anybody else remember when he scored 20 in the finals last year he started pounding on his chest (almost after every shot he made) like he was an all star, but what happen the next games, nowhere to be found, too much Ray Allen, hahaha. Kobe is cool, he did help the U.S. (especially in the final gold medal game against Spain) get the gold medal. Derek Fisher is cool too
I need some time alone

The L.A. Fakers
UNO) Mbenga is the worst player on the lakers right now.
DOS) I don’t know much about the lakes of old, but they are clearly one of the two best dynasties of the L. celts lakes of the old days made the L what it is, and also sparked so many idiot laker band wagon fans, who FORNICATED with other idiot laker fans to produce the idiot laker fan offspring that surround us today. This is a serious problem mankind faces today.
TRES) the prup +gold get away with the most bullSHI* calls of the entire league. People just jock they too hard. They flop around on many nights waiting for BS call to spark their interest. And on other night when the feel threatened, they show up and ball. This is not the mentality of a CHAMP. A CHAMO is cold blooded every waking moment of every game.
CUATRO) Too much Paris Hilton is not a good thing.

As a Laker fan.....
sam23, we did hate Van Exel and Ceballos, you were dead on with that comment. And 90 percent of Laker fans hate the (brick laying) “machine” Vujacic too. And while a lot of the fans are jerks, there are plenty of real, devoted fans out there. I happen to be one of them. And I have booed the team off the court when they weren’t performing to the standards that we expect. We find that it motivates the front office, you should try it sometime. It’s just coming from a different place. Each organization has its own style, and except for Boston each organization is good in its own unique way. As a basketball fan, I appreciate the Warrior fans’ devotion, but I slept in a purple and gold crib so it’s in my blood.
