The Sheed Experiment

According to Hoopshype (via Slam) Sheed will retire if he doesn’t get $8mil next season. I think the Warriors should pony up and pay the guy. While I’m not sure 12 pts, 7.4 rbs and 1.3 bpg warrants that kind of dough, I think he brings some serious upsides with little downsides:

Upsides: We get a veteran Big Man (!) with championship experience. He can mentor Randolph, maybe even playing along side him. We can go big with Beans, Randolph and Wallace, or go Small Ball and have Wallace at center with Randolph at the 4. It sounds like all he wants is a 1-year deal, which isn’t a long-term commitment. Furthermore, if the whole experiment backfires, we can send him and his 1-year expiring contract off to another team like the Spurs for some young talent.

Downsides: He could get injured. He could hop on a moped. This move would also go against the grain of our youth movement, which I’ve never really been that into anyway. Other than that, I don’t much risk in signing a guy for one year. He’d definitely be better than Webber!

Potential lineup:

PG - ?
SG – Ellis
SF – Stack Jack
PF – Sheed
C - Beans

All in all, I think it’s a good move. We would still have to address our PG issues, and this would most likely involve moving Crawford, who I actually like a lot. Do I think the Warriors front office will pull the trigger, no. Would I be happy if they did, yes.
