REPORT: MT2 writes Riley's now in charge

According to any article posted by Marcus Thompson II, Larry Riley has all but taken over complete control of the Generial Manager duties for the Warriors. Here's a link to the article.

Concern also exists over whether Riley has the necessary credentials. Riley has experience in the front office, working as director of player personnel for the Vancouver Grizzlies from 1994-2000 (which is more front-office experience than Mullin had when he assumed his current post in 2004). Riley also has more than a decade experience as an assistant coach and scout in the NBA....

....Riley apparently has done enough to earn the trust of Rowell. And according to one of the players, "everybody knows he's going to be the GM. ... I know everybody likes him."

Perhaps they'd better, considering Riley's running the show.

It sound like Cohan still doesn't have the balls to just out right fire Mully. Rather, he'll let Riley run the draft and offseason personel moves until Mullin's contract offically runs out on July 1st. In my opinion this is just another nail in the coffin for the We Believe Movement. Welcome to another offseason of We Suck (that unless we get a lucky ping pong ball bounce on May 19th).

This is just typical "Divide and Conquer" corporate politics..........

A top sports organization needs what an experienced pro like Mullin brings to the table as a manager Rowell seems more concerned with maintaining his position by allowing the factions under him to fall into civil war(keeps him above it all)…….typical corporate/government political manervers but does not bode well for a sports organisation that needs TEAMWORK in the front office as well as on the floor………..

sorry, but

mullin is a boob. getting rid of him is also an idiotic move, considering that he displayed SOME ability to learn and not hand out multi year deals to horrible players. I guess we’re going to start all over and hope for the best w/Riley? Someone said it below me about Riley’s “credentials”: Big Country Reeves.

**WE DESERVE**

"They can trade me," Bonds said. "I don't think they will, though. It's not like I want to be traded, man. I'm a Giant. I'm stuck here till the end."

You sound confused

Mullin is a boob but its idiotic to get rid of him

by pbra17 on May 6, 2009 6:45 PM PDT up reply actions

“mullin is a boob” is an overstatement, but someone saying “mullin is a mediocre gm, but it’s still stupid to get rid of him unless you can line up someone who’s actually a good gm” makes plenty of sense. an outside hire who just so happens to be a good basketball mind would have been nice. someone who was making the personnel calls in vancouver doesn’t inspire much confidence. cross your fingers, team.

what?

who gave maggs that contract? mullin did i think maybe…

i mean seriously though.. what good contract has mullin got that hasn’t screwed the franchise?

by saintdee on May 8, 2009 1:11 AM PDT up reply actions

Biedrins, Turiaf, Azubuike…who knows if that was Mullin, Riley, Rowell, Nelson, or Thunder…but they certainly aren’t bad contracts that screw the franchise.

Thing A

We have no idea what Mully has brought to the table

He might be doing some serious work behind the scenes or he might just be playing video games all day, we will never know. A we will never completely know how many decisions Mully made with or without major intervention from Cohan/Rowell/etc

No point even discussing it any more

Does Chris Mullin have Twitter?

I wonder if mullin goes on whatever that blog site is and we can find out the real story thats going on behind closed doors as we all have no clue who’s in “actual” control anymore… If anyone has Twitter can they see if Rowell or Mully is bloging any information so us fans no what the hell is really going on behind closed doors?? lol

Larry Riley

was blah blah blah of the Vancouver Grizzlies.

That right there says it all.

Let’s sign Big Country Reeves this summer!

LeBron James? I'm the only Ty Crane.

little is better than nothing

realistically, what faint hope remains for the team to revive would depend on a significant re-fit along the lines of what Nelson did in Dal under two ownership changes (first Perot, then Cuban). Riley was there for much of it. Vancouver never had a chance, Riley’s highlight picks Reeves and Bibby didn’t hurt them as much as the league disqualifying them from the #1 in Duncan’s draft (they got pushed to #4), and Francis refusing to play, which occurred after Riley. Van probably had a number of people like Riley working above their level of competence, and all we can do is wait and see how much his Dal sojourn taught him.

This doesn't change anything.

The only reason Rowell picked Riley is because he can be controlled.

The only good that will come of this is that Rowell’s negative impact on morale will be lessened by his velvet glove. That’s all Riley is, a velvet glove for Nelson and Rowell. He’s not even real tool.

Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell? Oh no hide the children!

by Nuck Chorris on May 6, 2009 1:12 PM PDT reply actions

Not True

Riley doesn’t need to be “controlled”. He is a part of the problematic dysfunctional FO that sunk our once promising ship in the last year. I’ve been so on the fence about renewing and was/am waitng to see if Rowell would have the guts and wisdom to hire a real GM/VP. Kind of doesn’t look that way now.

You're right.

He’s on autopilot and can’t make any significant decisions himself. Therefore he doesn’t need to be controlled

All I know is that I wouldn’t be putting the Grizzlies on my resume. Unless I was the one who brokered for the exclusive rights to Pau Gasol.

or

OJ Mayo for Kevin Love? Love looked really good at the end of last year, but I just can’t see him having a better career than Mayo.

Thing A

by sam23 on May 8, 2009 1:36 AM PDT up reply actions

there was also Mike Miller in that deal

who ended up being almost worthless this year, but in a normal season is a very valuable player. Plus he’s expiring ($10m) next year, so they may be able to spin him for some assets.

by markdash on May 8, 2009 7:29 AM PDT up reply actions

and they had to take on jaric and antoine walker’s contracts. if mayo ends up being a great player, then it works out, but if love ends up a solid pro and mayo is on the same level, the grizz got taken.

I know one thing Mullin was doing

Was shooting around with his son in a gym in Cornado( San Diego ). My boy who runs the gym hit me up and told me Mullin was in the building……then he finished by saying, damn Mullin is still butter, he didnt miss a shot for a long long time, so at least he can still shoot, hes got that going for him, which is nice.

So warriors are going to make a run at boozer, bosh or amare

I would want boozer most out of that group because of fact I am convinced bosh or amare would opt out. If boozer opts out of utah (which is forgone) all we could do is a sign and trade unless he wants to come to GSW on a mle (in which cause i’d go buy a boozer jersey because he’d be my new favorite basketball player)

hmmmm

by tafkasam on May 7, 2009 10:15 AM PDT reply actions

Maybe the front office will all get on the same page now though

One thing Tim K got right recently was his discussion about the Warriors not having a plan and sticking to it, or making logical changes to the plan when necessary and sticking to a modified plan.

The best case scenario now is that Rowell, Nellie, and Riley will all be on the same page and point us in a particular direction

by warriorsvictim on May 7, 2009 11:49 AM PDT reply actions

the PPG plan

striving to the be the first team to have 5 starters who average 20 ppg, play no defense, rebound reasonably and turn it over like maniacs!

by tafkasam on May 7, 2009 12:47 PM PDT up reply actions

that would be awesome

might not be a winning team, but would be hella fun to watch
