Woah

How’d The Dream drop out of top 3?

Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson, or Tyreke Evans. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.

The Grizzlies have Marc Gasol and the Thunder have Nenad Krstic. They both should consider Jordan Hill in my opinion.

I'd take Thabeet over Kristic

And I believe Grizzlies have been interested in Thabeet, possibly moving Marc to PF.

I would also rather have Thabeet as opposed to Krstic. I just think that Hill has more potential and he’s a power forward, so he would fit more naturally with their team.

They also drafted Serge Ibaka. A project, but who knows if that affects their decision.

The only thing you will get with the pick is A proven back up point guard.

This draft may be weak in some areas, but it is very strong with PG’s avaialable.

by dungeness crabdribble on Jun 12, 2009 6:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

it's obvious, GSW has already told us who we WILL pick

First, it’s NOT any of these -
Luke Harangody – Notre Dame PF
Joe Ingles – South Dragons (NBL) SF
Damion James – Texas PF/SF
Jeff Pendergraph – Arizona State PF
Marcus Thornton – LSU SG
Sam Young – Pittsburgh SF
Derrick Brown – Xavier PF
Taj Gibson – USC PF
Eric Maynor – VCU PG
Patrick Mills – Saint Mary’s PG
Jeff Teague – Wake Forest PG/SG
Patrick Beverley – Dnipro PG

… NOR will we choose from -
Chase Budinger – Arizona SG/SF
Dionte Christmas – Temple SG
Gani Lawal – Georgia Tech PF
Ater Majok – Connecticut PF
Terrence Williams – Louisville SG/SF
Omri Casspi – Maccabi Tel Aviv SF
Darren Collison – UCLA PG
Austin Daye – Gonzaga SF
Daniel Hackett – USC PG/SG
BJ Mullens – Ohio State C
Luke Nevill – Utah C

… NEITHER will it be -
DeMar DeRozan – USC SG/SF
Earl Clark – Louisville SF/PF
James Johnson – Wake Forest SF/PF
Marcus Johnson – UCS SG/SF
K.C. Rivers – Clemson SG
Garrett Temple – LSU SG/PG
Dar Tucker – DePaul SG
DeJuan Blair – Pittsburgh PF
Josh Heytvelt – Gonzaga PF
Gani Lawal – Georgia Tech PF
Gary Wilkinson – Utah State PF
Brandon Jennings – Lottomatica Roma PG
Jonny Flynn – Syracuse PG
Lawrence Hill – Stanford PF
Courtney Fells – North Carolina State SG
Aron Baynes – Washington State C

All of whom have already, or will soon be working out for GSW.

But, all that was but a tease. All the workouts were a ruse.

As a clue to who the GSW were REALLY targeting all along, they have waited to work out their TRUE choice until the very last minute. Keeping their secret out in plain sight by simply not talking him up, by talking about how deep the draft is in PG, they successfully surprised the entire league and their own fans by selecting:

Jordan Hill – Arizona PF

Who just so happens to be the BPA at the #7 spot.

do we really have too many shooters? buike and morrow, sure, but it’s not like anyone else is lights out from deep (jack and crawford like to shoot 3s, but they’re hardly great shooters).

also, that was curry’s first season ever as a point guard and looked pretty good in that role. he’s not yet the playmaker that many of the other pgs in this draft are, but even if great point guards are born, not made, there must be some learning curve. maybe he won’t be as pure of a point guard as the others, but if he keeps improving in that regard, his shooting stroke makes him worth a long look at the 7.

by cap'n hack on Jun 12, 2009 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Gerald Henderson is not on that list....

do you think they may try to have Morrow sit on his shoulders and for a Franken-PF?

by Aisander D on Jun 12, 2009 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

nah, if you put morrow on henderson’s shoulders, they’d be a freakishly tall wing player. it’d be easy to push around the two of them in the post, but henderson’s a good wing defender and just try to block morrow’s shot when he’s over 10 feet tall!

He only looked good as a PG because he was the only relevant person on that team always commanding double and triple teams, leaving him with the ability to pass out alot. He’s still a combo guard, and in my opinion more of a SG then a PG. He got good hoops IQ which enables to make right decisions, but he’s not a floor general. If we draft a PG, no way I would draft Curry over the others.

heart of a champion, will of the warrior.

by cap'n hack on Jun 12, 2009 2:18 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

“but he’s not a floor general”

Could you elaborate a little more on what qualities you think he’s lacking in this aspect? I think Curry can be a good PG – he’s not Jason Kidd out there but as you said, he makes good decisions/has a good basketball IQ so if he figures out when he should shoot and when he should be getting his teammates involved, you’ve got a decent PG out there.

by Missing Barry on Jun 12, 2009 3:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He doesn’t have the distribution mentality. He’s a scoring PG, just like Crawford, he’ll take a shot before he passes. He can be a good PG, but not as what a traditional PG should be doing and that’s to distribute.

it would be very hard to argue with jordan hill at the 7. if flynn were a better shooter, i’d say he’s the guy (and do like him enough where i’d be more than okay with that pick), but hill looks to be a solid pro and gives us one more young big to develop and possibly use as trade bait to land someone to fill one of our “bigger needs”. hill is a very nice pick at this spot.

I don't think it was an accident that it was at Scott Howard Cooper

Scoop wrote a blogpost when he was still with the Sacbee in December when Marcus Williams was still on the Dubs roster, and he basically talked about how unhappy Jennings was in Italy. I think some of that might have been lashing out. Although, I can’t prove that.

i dont know about that capt

they certainly would play better player at any positon in any team in europe, probably because they want to win.

It looks like Jennings was not ready to play and didn’t get playing time at the beginning of the season. He picked up as the season went along. But his problems were not as bad as Marcus Williams’.

by farid on Jun 12, 2009 11:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

i don’t think brandon jennings was good in europe at all, but everything i’ve heard about how pt is distributed there makes it seem like coaches are a bit more set in their ways as far as that goes. of course, i don’t watch a lot of euroleague ball and could be totally misinformed.

heart of a champion, will of the warrior.

by cap'n hack on Jun 13, 2009 12:36 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was also on a good team with good guards the coaches already liked. They knew he was only there for a year so there’s no real incentive to let him get PT unless he’s actually outperforming those guys from the start, because why would they care about his development? Keep in mind this is a high level of competition (higher than college). You really think many players would have gotten PT in Jennings situation? If that’s how you’re going to evaluate prospects, you’ll have a very uninformed opinion,

by Missing Barry on Jun 12, 2009 3:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Marco tore it up in the Italian League, at a younger age

and a large number of people around here think he isn’t much more than a bench ornament. What does that say about Jennings?

by myk on Jun 12, 2009 2:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It says that he probably won't be good in the NBA.

The last thing we need is another young project, we have enough of those already. Please do not pick Jennings!

by rickyross on Jun 12, 2009 3:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Marco tore up the Italian league at a younger age? You sure about that one? Last I checked the 11 ppg he was averaging when he was older than Jennings would disagree.

Frankly, his whole European experience doesn’t mean a whole lot. Seeing him play against other top prospects will. We don’t get to see that, but the teams do. If they pick him, it’s probably because they saw things they liked in his workout. Did I mention he played Rubio one time and had a significantly better game?

by Missing Barry on Jun 12, 2009 3:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

you just made this up which is dumb because we’re all on the internet and can just look this stuff in a minute.

Jennings turned 19 this past season. When Marco turned 19 in ‘04-’05, he averaged 5.9 points & less than 1 rebound & 1 assist per game.

unfair poll

I don’t think this poll is fair without an option for Hill. Forcing them to choose “other” and then specify makes it much more likely they’ll simply choose one of the options available. Its ridiculous that a guy who is generally regarded as a top 5 pick in this years draft by most “experts” isn’t included in the poll. AB1 conspiracy just to see us land Jennings in the mock? Seriously, especially since we have the 7th pick!

but he’s still available in this SBNation Mock Draft. it’s also odd to not put Derozan on the list even if he is unlikely here.

Ha, fair enough, I just thought the way he worded it was funny. We pick 7th! How dare you not give us the option of picking a top 5 pick!

WAIT

I demand a recount. Atma, how could you leave Jordan Hill off of the poll??? I think the poll should be reset, or the post recreated…

I would’ve voted for Hill.

Jordan Hill "conspiracy"

Based on Ford and Kawakami’s analysis the Warriors (seem like they’re) down to Jrue Holiday, Jonny Flynn, Brandon Jennings, Terrence Williams, and Tyreke Evans.

Evans is off the board to the Kings at #4. That left us with Holiday, Flynn, Jennings, and Williams.

Someone please feel free to run a tally of the Other votes in the comments and see how many Jordan Hill votes there- it’s going to even be close to Jennings.

Honestly I knew before I even put up the poll that Brandon Jennings was going to win the vote. He’s been winning pretty much every poll on GSoM for the past month or two.

If Hill is the BPA as I’ve already noted, then I’m all for the pick. There’s no conspiracy or rigging the vote in favor of Jennings.

by Atma Brother ONE on Jun 12, 2009 5:17 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I looked at the poll, and thought Hill was off the draft board already, so I picked someone else. I’m sure alot of people did the same thing. RIGGED!

oh c'mon

I didn’t expect you would leave a clearcut Top 10 talent off of the poll. I just assumed that the guys in the poll were the BPA’s.

Chad Ford. Tim Kawakami. Those guys ALWAYS have the most accurate scoop!!!!! Because when you need some good, reliable Warriors related information I always say “go to TK and Chad Ford first!!!” Seriously AB?

I wish we could have the draft during the season?

Doesn’t MLB do that? I don’t really follow MLB, but I think their draft is always on during the season.

by Golden Boy on Jun 12, 2009 5:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

A draft of theirs was on Tuesday.

by Rated-R Superstar on Jun 12, 2009 5:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why? That could really throw things out of balance with trades and all. Draft works best during the offseason when teams are focused on building their team, during the season would just be chaos. Scouting would also be tough.

MLB is different because a.) you can’t trade picks b.) players are expected to spend multiple seasons in the minors before they’re contributors c.) there aren’t the same type of “styles” of play different coaches employ – managers don’t need to be part of the draft process in MLB – in the NBA a coach trying to scout and coach at the same time would be too much.

by Missing Barry on Jun 12, 2009 5:42 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

not to mention the fact that the way a young college player finishes the season pretty much determines his decision to go pro. And and they’d all have to be drafted without agents as they’d still be playing, that opens up another big can of worms.

Honestly, I'll be happy when the draft is over and NOT have to think about who would best fit us.

I will support who ever we pick.

it’s gotten down to the point where there’s very few guys who i’d be upset if we got (tyreke evans). some players seem like better choices than others (hill/flynn/curry), but even the guys who i’m not sold on could very well be a good pick and i’ll be excited to see what they can do (holiday/jennings)

its got to be Jordan Hill are you kidding me. The Warriors should never be desperate enough to play the likes of Rob Kurz gimme an athletic big please

Man, its good to see so many of us are experts in this draft. Just curious

Who out there in GSoM land, called the A Randolph pick last year? H how many GSoMers were excited when the pick was made? I have a feeling not many were in favor of the pick. Yet here we go again with the same so called talent scouts certain with their choices.

by dungeness crabdribble on Jun 12, 2009 6:41 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Well that was somewhat of a deep draft, and we had the 14th pick.

Now it’s a bit easier since we have the 7th pick, but there’s a bunch of point guards to choose from.

by Precise Films Productions on Jun 12, 2009 7:35 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

(Stands up)

I hated the pick. I thought he would be another Brandon Wright with handles and would be a total bust. That’s why I don’t count anyone out this year. I hated Jennings at first bu came around after seeing videos. I thought Hendrix would be a beast. I thought Chris Taft would be in the NBA for years to come. I thought Dunleavy would be a future all star. Ok I’m not that stupid.

by Captain Jack on Jun 12, 2009 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought Taft was a great pick, I hated the Biedrins pick and I was on board with the Diogu (subsequently promised myself I’d never be mesmerized by measurements again, perhaps thats where my lack of enthusiasm for Holiday comes from) I’ll give myself a little pat on the bat for loving the Arenas and Monta selections though.

It was suggested a couple times but was generally dismissed because most felt he would be long gone by 14. I think most of us were relatively happy with the choice, the questions about his work ethic were concerning (and it turned out that early in the year we did have reason to be a little concerned)

I was one of the first to mention him and was ecstatic with us drafting him

Brandon Jennings, Ty Lawson, or Tyreke Evans. A Warrior in 09.
With the 6th Pick in the 2009 MLB Draft, the SF Giants pick Donovan Tate.

Ricky Rubio or Bust

I always believe in Best Available Player. If Jordan Hill is really that good and he drops, get him. There may be a logjam, but they also have a logjam of swingmen too. They can just trade talent later (Bosh, Amare, etc.)

For PGs though, I really want Rubio. Even if Fegan hates them, just sit on him- they keep the rights forever, and eventually he will agree. Or he’ll dominate in Europe and be tradable.

by I Spit Hot Fire on Jun 12, 2009 8:12 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Jordan Hill. If one young big pans out, then I’m cool with it. Last year I remember seeing Randolph as a top pick in the very early mocks, then as people begin to (in my opinion at least) overanalyze he dropped. I hope the same thing happens with Hill. Not saying they are the same type of player or anything, but top 5 big men falling out of the top 5 are must takes for bad teams, no matter who you have at the position.

ALL THESE WORKOUTS CAN'T BE A SMOKESCREEN

this is the Golden State Warriors, not the US Government. While they’re both EQUALLY INEPT, I don’t think the Warriors are clever enough to pull off such a trick. The Lakers are smart enough, but not the Warriors. And remember, in case I haven’t said this enough, I HATE the Lakers!

I'm not sold that Hill will be the BPA even if he falls.

This draft is week in bigs but yet it seems to be very strong on PG’s. Can;t think of too many years that there has been this many quality PG’s to pick from. Therefore to pick the 3rd best big in a very weak class seems like a mistake. I am sold more on Evans, Holiday and Jennings than Hill.

we have a good rotation right now with our 4/5 positions, no need to mess with that. i’d rather go earl clark than hill, at least he’d be a big athletic 3, like lewis, hedo, and carmelo. holiday is my pick though.

at least he’d be a big athletic 3, like lewis, hedo,

hedo is not athletic. hes just amazing
lewis isnt very athletic either

Cause Havoc. Bring Nash in and 120 point games will be very expected

I’m very down with Evans if he falls. But in this case, with Evans off the mock board, I’m more down with Hill than the others
