Similarities I see... how about you?

Well I like everyone here am watching these finals and cant help but notice obvious similarities with the Lakers & Warriors. I wont go deep into stats nor will I over analyze, i'm just going to compare both teams and the various similarities I see. It may be a bit cynical to say that the following similarities translate to winning ball, but it sure can help. So with that said let me proceed to give you what you need:

Similarity #1: Length: The Lakers are a very long team 1 thru 6 (Odom of the bench). Because of this length they are able to play the passing lanes and get hands on the ball. The Lakers aren't a shut down defensive team like Boston, but they are a great weakside/oppurtunistic  team. This allows them to cheat on the perimeter because they have Gasol/Bynum to defend at the rim. Now to the Warriors. If there is one thing we have an abundance of on this team is Length. If our starters were to consist of moving Stack to the 2, put Randolph at 3 and Brandan at the 4 we would be equally as long. How could a team score on this Length?

Similarity #2: Atheleticism: Once again the Lakers are deep in this category. There C/PF (Bynum & Gasol) can both run the floor and Odom is a freak of an athelete ( 6'10 w/ the abilitty to handle the ball). This allows them to start the break and get an advantage over a defensive team that is not set. Now to the Warriors. I know you all are againts moving Randolph to the SF, but it would be extremely benefial on the defensive end. It would also allow him to grab a rebound and lead the break like Odom. He can be used as a post up player and facilitate from the low post.

Similarity #3: Bench that can score: How many times this year did we see Kobe sit on the bench and the lead increase. I for one know that happened all 4 times the Lakers played the Warriors this season. They have farmar, Vujakic, Odom, etc. This allows the starters to get an obvious rest and be fresh for the end of the game. Now to the Warriors. If Buike were to move to the bench that would give us 3 players that on any given night could put in 20 points individually (Morrow/Maggete the other two). Also Ronny would be our anchor for the second unit, something the Lakers dont have.

I know we dont have a Kobe that can take over a game at a moments notice, but we have a group of 6 or 7 guys that can also score. Plus, we would be better defensively with our length and atheticism.

Remember to win a championship is not all about scoring it's about defense....

because being tall doesn’t make you a good defender.

outside of the very superficial similarities you brought up, the two teams really don’t have much in common at all. the lakers a great passing team, a good defensive team, are loaded with talent and have one of the top 3 players in the nba. you can’t say any of those things about the warriors and picking out similarities of such little importance can give you shocking parallels with almost any nba team.

oh and one more thing: ANTHONY RANDOLPH IS A POWER FORWARD.

+1

except SF there isnt a single position we can compete with lakers on. Even at SF, they have very good passing players who compliment there elite SG and elite scoring bigs

If the open thread about Don and Hill is true

What do you think Nellie’s plan for Randolph are??? Hmm makes me think he is playing the trey…

anthony randolph will play the 4 and either wright or hill get traded. plus it never hurts to have an insurance policy on wright who, while ilike him very much as a player, is injured quite a bit. if hill’s the best player available, you take him and work out the rest later. fit is less important than a talent upgrade.

Yeah, Randolph might see a few minutes here and there at the 3. But he is a power forward. In order for him to be a 3 on a team coached by Nellie, the boy has to be able to knock down three’s, don’t think he can yet. He also doesn’t have a consistant enough jump shot for Nellie to feel comfortable playing him at the 3. Basically if he can improve his perimeter game on offense and defense, he’ll play the 3 more often. For now that spot is reserved for Buike and Maggs

Not just 3’s either….. Randolph just doesnt have any real refined “SF” tools. lamar odom for reference is a much superior ball handler/passer/slasher and even he rarely plays 3.

It also would lessen the impact of his 2 best skills…. rebounding and help defense, blocking

Clearly...

The starting PF position right now is Randolphs to lose. That leaves wright coming out fighting for minutes at the PF already, and Turiaf tends to pick a couple of those up as well. Now, if Hill did slip to us at 7, and we actually drafted him, then he would do what all rookies in the Golden State do. Rot. Until he has earned his keep. I dont see him making any impact this year, so things would remain status quo for this season. Should things work out with him, and BWright doesn’t turn any heads next season, then Wright will be moved. When we play small ball, Azubuike(or whoever) will play SF, with AR and AB at 4 and 5 respectively. Whit turiaf solely backing up Center, and Hill backing up PF. But when we need to play big, we finally could. Putting out AR at the 3, Turiaf at the 4, and AB at the 5. Then hill, or maybe hill and Wright if hes still around will sub in. I am actually in favor of running this regularily this season, but who knows. I say Turiaf starting 4 here, because otherwise it would be the skinniest line up i the NBA with AR, AB, and hill or wright on the floor.

I just read the first line and...

I am not watching the finals. No interest. Lakers should win easy and I hate watching Koby wage his tongue and gloat, and Fisher should never get a ring after he lied to SLC about his daughters needs.

There's a party in my mind.
And I wish that I was there.

i haven’t watched the finals this year either, for many of the same reasons. i hate kobe and the lakers, but i’d also throw in the fact that a team called “the orlando magic” are playing for a championship as a reason to not watch too.

and by the way, how did fisher lie to the folks in utah about his daugher? i know she had cancer and that LA was the best location for her to be treated and all i heard about was the disgusting way the jazz fans treated him upon his return. when did he lie to that organization?

sorry for the double post

to clarify: He used her to ask to get out of his contract to give her the best possible treatment, that’s all good and hat’s off to SLC for granting him that, except that her treatments were in NY.

that is pretty bad, but not nearly as bad as the way jazz fans treated him when he returned.

I don’t know about that they had a beef, it’s not like they were wishing his daughter ill.

they were actively mocking his daughter’s cancer. they didn’t just boo him; they went after his sick daughter. it was shameful and cruel.

Ouch, I didn't here that

Way over the top in the Low Class category. Way better ways to vent your frustration.

The Lakers had some times with Kobe on the bench where they outscored the opposition but for the most part, they were neutral to slightly negative when he sat. When we have a player as good as Bryant we can start taking about meaningful similarities between the Lakers and Warriors that relate to building a team. Until then noting the similarities is like nothing that Ferraris and Hondas are real similar. They both have seats, steering wheels, 4 tires, gas caps…Man! I know it doesn’t have a 450hp engine, but that Civic really should be able fly!

Can we say that the Warriors are a poor man's Lakers?

There are some similarities, but the quality is vastly different in every way.

If the Lakers are a Kobe burger (get it?!?!?), the Warriors are a homemade burger off my grill. My grill and recipe will give you a nice and tasty burger made of beef, but it’s still nothing compared to the Kobe burger with succulent black truffles, aged Gruyere cheese, wild mushrooms and foie gras.
