Brandon Jennings vs. Jonny Flynn
There's been a lot of talk about who we want to see the Warriors take at No. 7, most notably the decision to take either Jennings or Flynn if both would fall to us.
Both of them recently worked out for the Warriors, but other than a few clips of them shooting around and interviews, not much information was given about how they stacked up head to head.
So I thought this would be interesting...
Sam Amick, the Kings beat writer, observed the Kings' workout, which included Jennings matched up with Flynn, and also included Jrue Holliday. He took some hand-written notes about the workout, and had some raving reviews about Jennings.
We ask the above question because we all know who won the battle off the floor, even if Ricky Rubio wasn't around to defend himself against Brandon Jennings.
Chances are, Rubio wouldn't have been able to stop Jennings no matter where he was.
The 19-year-old is simply too quick. That was the prevailing impression among those who watched Jennings play.

The downside is that Jennings’ play in his workouts might convince a team to take him earlier than 7th
We may need some things to go our way, then. The hope is that Rubio falls to the fourth pick and that the Timberwolves go with Evans or something since Curry will probably go fifth to the Wizards.

If the Warriors were to trade up for a #2 #3 or #5 pick...
What deal would you offer Memphis, Oklahoma or Washington to guarantee getting your man? There are trades on the board to get us all the way up to a #2 pick.
Worst case is swing a deal with divison rival Sac. (not likely)

I’LL take both of them rather than Jordan Hill. Jhill is GARBAGE.

Well, apparently, he hasn’t been doing something right since his stock is slipping.

Until the draft, any talk of “stock” is like dotcom boom company “value”. It’s a totally mythological figure to discuss but the resemblance to reality is highly, highly questionable. It’s sportwriters who claim his stock is ‘slipping.’ They don’t make the picks. Their evidence that he’s slipping may be good. It may be that enough people have enough credible information from teams to know that he’s likely to be skipped over in the draft, or it may be make believe based on misconstruing a few words. I honestly don’t know, but the whole concept of ‘draft stock’ “slipping” or “climbing” should be taken with some real healthy skepticism.
Brandon Jennings and Jonny Flynn
Brandon Jennings is more of a Tony Parker/Allen Iverson type of player where he uses his speed, handles and quickness to get by his opponent.
Jonny Flynn is somewhat of a Chauncey Billups/Baron Davis type of player where he utilizes his size and strength to keep running the offense like a fast rolling boulder. The problem here is that he’ll probably never be as good as those two since he’s way too short. I look at him more as another Will Bynum (with better passing).
With the Warriors, Jonny Flynn could be a good pick for them because he has a great combination of size and quickness to make moves AT WILL. Brandon Jennings is different, since he doesn’t have the size and strength and will have trouble getting past defenders if his handles aren’t helping to blow past them; he doesn’t have the strength to straight up overpower his opponents. Brandon might take a little longer to initiate an offense than Jonny because he’d have to dribble around first in order to make his move, whereas Jonny can just use his size to force his way past his opponent to run the play or whatever.
With that said, I still like Brandon Jennings better. He has the playmaking ability that could help the Warriors out a lot, whether he starts or comes off of the bench. He has the ballhandling and quickness that would make it hard for even 4 defenders guarding him at the same time to steal the ball. He also has that confident swagger in his game that’s necessary to get a team motivated, and when paired up with Stephen Jackson the Warriors will be one badass team that will be hard to stop when healthy.

Tony Parker or Devin Harris is probably a best case scenario for Brandon Jennings (maybe he’s more pass-orientated if you believe the talk, less so if you look at the stats). He could also very well end up being in that Aaron Brooks to Mike Conley level depending on how well he finishes inside like Parker or is able to fool refs with flopping like Harris. maybe closest to a Damon Stoudamire type if his jump shot improves.
Jonny Flynn is probably going to be more like Raymond Felton or Kyle Lowry. Though he’s physically built like a taller, but less athletic, slower version of Nate Robinson.
Jrue looks like Kirk Hinrich without a jump shot. he’s going to have to work to get his jump shot close to Hinrich’s & become an efficient post up PG to surpass Hinrich. Though his defense is questionable against PGs, if you believe what you hear out of the Toronto workout vs Flynn (though Flynn apparently couldn’t guard Holiday either & the Kings workout vs Jennings. He didn’t fare to well against Harden either – the worst is on the crucial position (about 5 minutes into the clip), Harden blows by Holiday for what amounts to a lay up.

As Franchise wrote yesterday, Flynn is uber-athletic and attacks the rim relentlessly. In 3-on-3 drills he got anywhere he wanted on the court and was extremely aggressive getting to the cup despite having the longer and bigger Holiday matched up against him. Flynn’s passing ability was also on display in the 3-on-3 drills where he constantly made the smart play and created some easy looks for his teammates.

I think I liked these prospects more when I knew less about them. out of the 3, I would probably take Holiday even though he’s at least a 2 year project player & his assist to TO ratio is suspect (playing out of position shouldn’t affect your ability to make good decisions) b/c of his size. or if Curry’s still available & you don’t mind that Mo Williams/Bibby style of PG – though he could be closer to Ridnour or Blake.
trading down for Lawson looks more appetizing even w/ the questions of his stubby arms resulting in his passes being deflected at the NBA level & that he might not be able to get his set shot like jump shot off as well as he was able to in college against NBA length – especially off the dribble & the questions of defending & finishing at the NBA level due to only having above avg athleticism. i prefer to have a guy at PG who makes good decisions and i’m not buying all the “product of the system” claims that pundits are pointing to.

Sounds like this cat is trying to hype up Sac fans on Jennings in the event that Rubio doesn’t fall to them. If Sac really wants to draft a PG and both Jennings and Rubio are on the board when their turn to pick is up they’re gonna take Rubio.

Imagine this scenario:
3.) Oklahoma City Thunder — Ricky Rubio, PG/Spain
4.) Sacramento Kings — Brandon Jennings, PG/United States of America
5.) Washington Wizards — Stephen Curry, PG/Washington
6.) Minnesota Timberwolves — Tyreke Evans, PG/Memphis

why would the wizards take curry
when they have an undersized gunner in arenas? they need pf/c help
Curry at 1 Gil at 2. Gil’s obviously a bit undersized at 2 but he’s thick and long so he’s less undersized there than someone like Ellis.

lame.
the truth is we really don’t know.
apparently, Jennings actually thinks Rubio is pretty good by what he wrote in his blog after the actual game – he even gets the #’s from the game right & mentions Rubio is coming off a wrist injury.
http://blog.underarmour.com/wheninrome/2008/12/12/barcelona-spain-trip-euro-league-game/
he mentions a CP3 vs Deron type rivalry & admits on twitter that he was hyping things up as well. a
http://twitter.com/BJennings3/status/2148816857
From the highlights you can at least tell that Rubio is a pretty crafty player & definitely knows how to read situations, (unlike Lebron) he knows how to go off the pick and how to split the double. Again, they are highlights, but he looks Stockton-like running pick and roll. as long as he has any sort of jump shot to keep defenders honest, he’s probably going to be a pretty good pass 1st PG.
the other ? marks offensively are outside of shooting will be his ability to make good decisions, whether he can go 1 on 1, and whether he’ll find a way to finish inside (or at least trick refs a la Maggette).
the defensive side is the biggest unknown. will he be a Nash like liability? you can tell he has good anticipation in the passing lanes, but the highlights seem to indicate that he has a tendency to reach & go for steals. and he’ll probably be Marco like in his ability to block shots.
at least he’s shown he’s a willing rebounder fin Europe since over his career he’s been about 5-6 per 40 minutes (Marco was 2-3 rebounds per 40 in Europe (he’s been the same over here)) which is pretty good from the PG position.
i’d be pretty surprised if he turned into an outright Kwame or Darko level bust. i’d say the worst case scenario is “Nash w/o a jump shot” or “Jason Kidd minus the athleticism”. and let’s not forget that Rubio would have been a HS senior, not a college freshman.

just saw the interviews
based on that alone. flynn over jennings. much much more cerebral. if he was coached for the answers he’s got some motors up stairs.
I don't care who they pick
As long as its either Brandon Jennings or Jonny Flynn, but based on the interview after they worked out, Im kind of leaning more towards J Flynn.
We be doin' it CROOKLYN style!!!!!
WHAT ABOUT CURRY?
how does stephen curry’s jumpshot not make wanna salivate? this guy can make his own shot while being double teamed….hes not a catch and shoot like jj reddick…this guy is gunna be good…sure itll be harder if its a nba double team…but he has good enough vision to pass to the open man……honestly though i would be happy with jennings, flynn, or curry….we really dont need another combo gaurd with the exception of curry since hes only the best ****in shooter in the draft!….and jordan hill shud not be drafted….we need strictly a point guard to try and fill in the gap that baron davis left (flynn kinda reminds me of him)
