Chad Ford on the Monta Ellis rumor

I was on Chad Ford's live chat this morning when he was answering questions. Not surprising at all that someone asked about the Monta situation:

AJ (SF)

Chad - rumor has it that Monta Ellis is unhappy. The only way to appease him was to promise NOT to draft a point guard. If Jordan Hill is gone - who will GS take or will they trade the pick to the Clips for BD?

Chad Ford

I've heard a few rumblings that direction, but c'mon ... are they really letting Monta Ellis draft for them ... please. The Warriors will take whoever they think helps the team the most. I do think Nellie thinks Ellis can play some point, but it won't stop them from taking a guy like Stephen Curry, for example, who can be a combo guy too. D

I totally agree. Nellie will not let him make their draft decision. I also really doubt they'd take back Baron Davis and his ridiculous contract. I'd be really surprised if they don't take a PG, but I'm not holding my breath.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Earl Clark may go higher than we think. I have no problem with taking him seventh overall in the first place, but I just really want Brandon Jennings.

Tk could be wrong/could be right

I heard the interview last week, how they asked Monta if he would mind if they drafted a PG, and he said he wouldnt mind at all. Again, could be true, also could be a straight out lie. Larry Riley’s job is to do the best thing he sees for the team AND protect the teams image, especially this time, when all the fans, media, season tix holders, are putting the Warriors org on blast.
Suppose TK is right though, and his super top secret sources are correct. Riley could have been doing pre emptive damage control, there fore lying on the interview, and in reality the visit he and Nellie paid to Monta, was to talk potential trade moves.
We all know how trade value and potential deals deflate when the player goes public to the media and slams the org saying he wants a trade….
so maybe they are just playing it low key until a trade pops up…

Orrr maybe not…
arrrrrghh my head.

Yep. If true, the actions fit this scenario. TK would want the scoop, Riley and Monta would not want it to get out before they had a trade on the table. Though, they could be telling the truth and TK could be citing terrible sources also. Both have certainly happened before. We’ll see what’s what, but I’m betting strong on “TK is talking out of his…” because it’s happened before, with the same principals. We’ll see.

c'mon guys, it's obvious they were there for lessons

Monta opened a new business to recoup some of his lost cash, his new biz is MSI.

I think Monta is ok

he just wants to be the PG and for us not to bring in a starting PG, not a PG at all. I think Riley was telling the truth about Ellis as that sounds like the way he would say things.

The Kiss of Death:

Larry Riley said he’s 75% sure to draft for need and not for the best talent: That has been the Kiss of death is several drafts: I’m not going to name them all but just one of the more obvious ones;

FEAR

What this actually shows is the GSW are making decisions based on fan perception and fear because they have betrayed their fans over and over in the past and fear there going to lose their fan base:

No different than the CM signing after they lost Baron: a fear move because they squandered away this team in two years time instead of building on it:

The inertia of this team is in tank mode already and it’s not even draft day yet: such is life in the Golden State:

+ 1 for Chad Ford - 1 for Kamakami

Jordan Hill could be a good fit if we can train him or Randolph (most likely) to play the 3. That would give us a Big 3 frontcourt, but the whole team remaining FAST. Sadly, the defense factor remains to be seen.

It would also mean bye bye for Brandan Wright, who I do like, but unfortunately it’s really me rooting for the validity of the J-Rich trade.

I can’t see Jordan Hill ever being a 3. I hope we don’t try to squeeze the square peg that is Randolph into the round hole that is the 3 anytime soon, his primary value is on the boards so why would you want to take him farther away from the basket?

Thing A

His rebound rate for a 3 could be the best in the league, though…

by Missing Barry on Jun 16, 2009 6:05 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

F that

Put him at PG. His rebounding rate would be twice the second best in the league, now that Kidd is gone!!!

Why wont Chad Ford get off the Stephen Curry thing?

He keeps saying the Warriors will draft Curry despite all the other talk we have heard.

Is there any chance they will do that? I just dont see it

by warriorsvictim on Jun 18, 2009 12:04 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

draftexpress now thinks we'll take Curry

Although Minnesota is high on him, Tyreke Evans and Rubio. They wont get Rubio so its a coinflip. I was anti-Curry initially, but he’s growing on me. Mature, very fundamentally sound. Literally carried a team, going somewhere where he isnt #1 option, he should do much better
