Trade Idea for Tayshaun Prince
With the recent Jamal Crawford for Acie Law and Speedy Claxton trade that happened earlier today, this opens up many more ideas on what the Warriors will do next. Whether it's who they'll draft, trading up or down in the draft, or just a straight up trade. I was thinking about this trade:
Warriors send out:
Acie Law
Speedy Claxton
Marco Belinelli
7th Pick
Pistons send out:
Tayshaun Prince
15th pick
I couldn't use the ESPN Trade Machine for this, since the GSW-ATL trade isn't "official" yet, but granted that it does go through, I was thinking that with this trade, we could grab a great starting SF in Tayshaun Prince that actually WANTS to play defense, unlike our entire roster and have a great SF in Corey Maggette come off the bench. And we'd get the 15th pick to try and get Brandon Jennings or Terrence Williams. If Brandon Jennings drops to the teens like he's been projected to lately, we could grab him and have no use to resign CJ Watson as our backup PG. If not, we could grab Terrence Williams, who is projected to go around the mid-teens. He's versatile, very athletic, has above average passing skills for a SF and can handle the ball pretty well. What do you guys think?

mmm maybe....
i dont know about that though. we’ve already got enough stick forwards as it is…i dont know if tayshaun is the player that would really fill our needs right now.

Defense and shooting? Sounds like a couple of things we could use.

How come?
Sorry, but I don’t really know much about all the technicalities in terms of trading, player options, team options, etc. All I know is that this trade is not official until July 1st when Jamal Crawford’s opt out or not is official. But is there a grace period before we can trade someone that we just got in a previous trade or something?

I think it's something like that.
sam23 commented that we couldn’t and he’s usually right about that stuff. I think we can only trade one of them but not both in the same trade

I was only citing what someone else told me and sounds like a rule I remember hearing about…you can’t package a player you just traded for with anything else in another trade for a couple months or something….I actually made the same mistake and suggested another Prince trade that included Speedy and others in that other thread breaking that same rule I had just pointed out to someone else. jae, cap, DFiB and others know much more about this stuff and I’m sure one of them will be here to clear this up shortly

You have to wait 2 months after acquiring a player in trade before he can be traded again as part of an outgoing package of more than one player. Even where the Crawford trade to happen right now, Law and Claxton couldn’t be part of a package yet, so no trading of picks in a package like that can occur prior to the draft.
It would be possible to agree in principle if the numbers work (I’m not going to check) and have the teams pick for each other and then wait and make the trade when it can happen, except for one critical problem. The trade violates the “I’m sorry, but I don’t think I can stand yet ANOTHER Tayshaun Prince trade idea since we’ve already seen 100 of them” clause in the CBA. You have to look closely for it, but I’m pretty sure it’s there. ESPN’s trade machine misses it though.

i think crawford could sign something saying he won’t opt out. that’s what i heard etan thomas was doing to make the wizards wolves trade go through.

Even if Jamal DOES opt out and this trade falls through...
We still get 10mil off the books! It’s a win-win situation for us.

Basically a player who is just acquired can’t be traded for 2 months in combination with another player.
But can be traded by himself.
This restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap.
But you can get around this by trading Claxton for player A then doing a separate trade with, say, Maggette for player B, C.

oops, I guess I should’ve scrolled down, someone with much more knowledge already did clear it up

hey homer
can you or jae or someone else with a good understanding of all the CBA rules make a fanpost that explains all this Crawford opt-out option/when we can trade claxton or law again stuff? I think I’ve got a handle on it now, but I couldn’t explain it very well and I’m thinking we’re going to be seeing this confusion quite often in quite a few threads over the next few days.

I’d do it as the Warriors, but what do the Pistons get out of it?
by Missing Barry on Jun 24, 2009 2:51 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
don't we have to wait 30 days before we trade our new guys?
secondly, i wouldn’t do that trade.

I like it
Just wondering what we need with 2 average (1-broken down, way past his prime) point guards.I would have hoped the W’s could have gotten better value for Crawford! These two aren’t worth squat and definitely won’t see much PT !!

Those expiring contracts are worth more than the 20 mil owed to Jamal

Pistons would laugh the hell out of this deal.
They would also put your number on the Do Not Call Registry.

in terms of salary we’d probably have to include Maggette, Buike or Jackson….unless it was a Monta or Biedrins going to Detroit. But I guess in your hypothetical situation we’d probably see a lot of Prince at the 4.

Yeah, I thought of that, but I doubt that the Pistons would want Maggette (or Jackson for that matter) since they’re trying to SHED salary, not bringing in more.

I guess if we waited a few months til Speedy is trade eligible some kind of Speedy+Wright+Belinelli might get it done.

He’d be great off the bench. We could divide up the SG/SF bench minutes to Buike, Maggs, Morrow, and Belinelli (in that order of rotation)
