BREAKING: Shaq to CAVS for B. Wallace/S. Pavlovic
It's official according to ESPN:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4285489
Shaq is going to CLEVELAND to partake in the craziness of Lebron/Shaq VS. Kobe/Gasol.
Did the dream FINALS matchup for next year get even MORE interesting? My thoughts on this are obvious since I'm such the Laker hater, but what do you all of you think about the prospect of Lebron James STAYING in Cleveland if this brings the Cavs a championship?

i like evans a lot more as a 2 guard, but i’d still be wary of him in the top ten. he’s just a high volume, low efficiency shooter, who happens to rebound fairly well. he’s not an outstanding athlete, defender, or distributor. i think he could be a decent bench guard who would see most of his minutes at the 2, but be able to play the point every now and then. taking him in the top 10 and expecting him to fill out your starting lineup seems like a bust waiting to happen.

He has Rubio fifth on his big board and he named two weaknesses of Rubio’s and those were his shooting and his athleticism. Well, apparently, his athleticism wasn’t bad enough for Bilas to knock his speed or what have you offensively and his ability to stay in front of people defensively. I don’t understand why he isn’t higher on his board based on the fact he only gave Rubio a few knocks. I’m sure John Stockton, Steve Nash and Deron Williams were deemed as not being athletic.

never had a knock for not being athletic…. Stockton & Nash yeah… But Deron, his knocks were lack of effort on D and shooting

i’ve become less and less enamored with holiday as draft day approaches. he was good in high school and in the combines, but the college production (while out of position) was really bad. it seems like a risky pick to me.

I do remember that for the UCLA-VCU game he really stepped up after Collison went off in the second half. I really think that he just didn’t have enough chance to shine because of Collison and Shipp. I think he still is still largely an unknown.c

isn't everyone a risk?
I mean, to me, jennings would be a far greater risk (with his size and playing poorly in europe) yet he is a favorite for many GSOMers.
Holiday would be a great fit with the warriors. We really need a defensive minded PG to help us, regardless of ellis attempting to be our starting PG. Holiday can at worst (imo) become an excellent backup and at best become what baron was for us (not necessarily the same play style but the missing piece to play along side monta).

From what Andy Katz had to say this afternoon, the Grizzlies want the fifth and sixth overall picks or at least Kevin Love in a package that contains the fifth overall pick. The Timberwolves wouldn’t do it.

i’d be tempted to do 5 and 6 for rubio if i’m the wolves, but leave love off the table. of course, the grizz pretty much announcing that thabeet is the guy was a stupid move from trading perspective. now the wolves could package the 5 and the 18 to the thunder, get rubio and watch the thunder take harden (who makes sense there). that of course, still probably leaves us with hill.

i’d be fine with hill at the 7. he doesn’t fit a need, but he’s a really good rebounder, has a decent midrange j and might be the best player on the board if harden/rubio/curry are all gone (which seems very likely right now). if nothing else, he gives you the flexibility to deal either him or wright and patch up another perceived hole on the team.

I wouldn’t mind Hill if we didn’t have Randolph, Biedrins, Turiaf and Wright. I think Wright has more potential than Hill, but I think Hill may have the chance to become an All-Star, really. Wright does as well, but I think there’s more a likelihood from Wright’s side compared to Hill’s.

Lebron/Shaq vs Kobe/Gasol would be a Finals ratings extravaganza
but that’s looking too far ahead. I’m looking forward first to see how Shaq battles Dwight Howard in the East. Shaq’s getting up there in age, so this may be his last chance at winning the big one once more.
As for Lebron staying in Cleveland, Shaq is a free agent after next season. If Lebron and Shaq win a championship, Lebron might think that “he did his job” in Cleveland, and could look for other challenges elsewhere. If they fail to win the big one, Lebron might think that his chances at winning in Cleveland are over, and will want to look elsewhere. Either way, I don’t think Shaq’s arrival in Cleveland for next season affects Lebron’s decision to stay in Cleveland after next season.

This is no good for the cavs
sure, shaq give them even more of an inside presence but look what shaq did for the suns. If im not mistaken he didnt do that much. Kerr picked him up to deal with the boozers, duncans and odens of the west coast. They didnt even make the playoffs.
One could argue that its the east coast for him now where anyone can get in with a 12-70 record and all they have to do is worry about dwight. But i dont know. Shaq is getting up there in age and weight. I dont think its going to help that much.
by Butt Secks on Jun 24, 2009 11:47 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah, but ben wallace was a corpse out there. shaq’s fading, definitely, but he’s still a big upgrade over wallace and can score in the post, something they really lacked last postseason. plus, he’s only there for one year. if it were a 2 or 3 year deal, the cavs would be making a mistake here, but even if he’s just a slight upgrade, the deal was a good one.

Wow Danny Ferry and ownership must have one big smile on their face. Talk about an absolute steal on so many levels. First, they gave up players that had very minimal through the season/playoffs. Second, they add a big time player in Shaq who is attracts so much attention and now pair him up with Lebron? Are you kidding me, i feel that Cleveland is making its way into becoming the next Big Apple in terms of media wise.

I actually have to agree with half of what Golden Boy said. Yeah, Lebron was a sore loser, lost a little respect for him. But Shaq played great last year, the last time he played like that was when he won the championship in Miami. Shaq got about 2 more years left in him.

Now all they need to do is get rid of Illgauskas who was the real reason they couldn't
beat the Magic in that series, that guy might be the slowest guy in the league watching him try to show on the pick n roll was hard to watch.
It's all about the killer cross-over baby!
