Can someone tell me what's so good about Rubio?

He does behind the back passes and he's been playing professional ball since his teen years. Is that all?

He looks extremely soft to me and very slow. He doesn't have the explosiveness and speed to be as good as point guards like Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Tony Parker etc. He's great at passing but it doesn't mean that unathletic+greatpasser=NextSteveNash; Steve Nash's shooting ability and extremely high basketball IQ is what made him so deadly, as well as his ability to read his defenders and make the right moves to go past them.

Unless Ricky Rubio becomes one of the best shooters in the league, I don't see him being that all-star player that everyone else see's. He has a slow shot and is more of a set shooter. He also doesn't attack the basket very well.

I don't know, he's reminding me a lot of all the Mike Dunleavy Jr. hype back in '02. Soft players that get so hyped up because they remind people oh so much about great players from the past. Dunleavy was supposed to be the second coming of Larry Bird and now we got Ricky "Pistol Pete" Rubio coming over.

But yeah, don't get me wrong. If Ricky Rubio becomes great then I wouldn't be surprised since he's been getting hyped up anyways. I'll be happy for him if he does great here and I want him to succeed, but right now i'm having doubts. =/

Are you kidding me?

have you seen the hair on that kid? it’s great, he’s got it all, full head of hair and he’s 6’4 what else do you want?

he can dribble da ball on the floor

he knows how to make a pass

and he is skinny, so he may be faster than you think

GREAT ARTICLE

WOW. I wrote an article earlier last week about how Rubio is all hype. I am glad you are bringing this up again. Other than the fact that he can pass the ball, he doesn’t bring anything else to the table. Hes not explosive, he cant shoot, he cant play defense. I agree with everything you say.

yeah.

I’m not trying to hate on him or put him down, I just listed my doubts on him. But if he really is a very good player then I would be okay with believing the hype, and wouldn’t mind the Warriors drafting him if he ends up slipping to the 7th pick.

But still, he looks extremely soft, so I don’t know. =/

“Steve Nash’s shooting ability and extremely high basketball IQ”

Extremely high basketball IQ is something Rubio has. His shooting stroke can be completely refined at his age, not a big deal at all.

One more thing to add, while Kidd was a very good athlete early in his career, he was still a very good player later when he added weight, lost a step or two and wasn’t nearly the explosive leaper (around age 30 or so). Rubio could definitely be better than that version of Jason Kidd (who was still a really, really good player).

he was a great defender in spain, absolutely great, and was playing with a broken wrist for half the year; it’s tough to shoot with a broken wrist.

he has amazing court vision, is a fantastic passer, an incredibly high bbiq, and a great perimeter defender. the shooting will improve considering his age and how often guys make impressive strides in that area and the fact that he was playing with one wrist for half the year didn’t help his shooting stroke. outside of not being the world’s fastest man and needing to work on his jumpshot, there’s very little not to like about rubio.

yeah

I like his size, his height helps a lot and gives him even better court vision.

He's not bad

he would be a good pick at #7 in this years draft, but he’s not worth all the hype and this might be the only draft that i can remember where he might go #2, or even top 5. What I wanna know is why does Chad Ford on ESPN have Jennings going #19? Is Jennings really that good or is he just all GSoM hype. And the major differnece between him and Nash is Nash is actually a shooting threat. Rubio might be good in 2 or 3 years but for him to succeed he would need to go to a franchise that is willing to wait on him and develope him, and i don’t think the warriors are the team that would wait on him, so maybe for some reason if he did fall to us a lot of teams might be wanting to trade him and we could get good value for a trade with the #7 pick.

“Rubio might be good in 2 or 3 years but for him to succeed he would need to go to a franchise that is willing to wait on him and develope him”

I don’t think many people are expecting him to be amazing out of the gate. Everyone understands he’s going to need a little time to develop.

he already run’s the pick and roll better than 9 out of 10 pgs in the NBA. he knows exactly when to give the ball up on the break. he’s spot on with the alley oop (i saw him toss 3 perfect ones to rudy fernandez in the same game). he’s not a great shooter, just a bit inconsistent. he’s a pretty darn good defender, gambles a bit too much some times, but lead the Spanish ACB in steals this past season.

he’s easily the best point guard talent for his age, and in this draft, despite not having the athleticism of other prospects. and if the warriors should get him we should be in for a real treat in the future.

NBA

Well the NBA and the scouts of the world obviously know something we dont because why would everyone think this kid i the top prospect if all he can do is pass? I am sure there is more to him than meets the eye.

I say give him 3 years, if he does not have at least the average stats then.. BUST! and i hope it is not the Warriors.

If i were to pick him or Jennings it would be Jennings. Jennings is a better dribbler, i think a better point scorer and more up side to learn to pass and what not.

Gotta love the Bay Area drama ;)

He's been playing pro ball for years... etc. etc.

He has amazing court vision. Isn’t afraid of the flashy pass. Played well against the USA in the Olympics… and is ONLY 18 years old.

his physical talent (height especially) are glaring. He reminds me a lot like Deron Williams with his strong drives and great balance.

euro hair

That was sick. The dude Rubio stole the ball from at around 8:18 had some weird shit on the back of his head like dots of green and red hair dye.

Simple ..

He’s a blend of fundamental soundness, flash, and mystery. It’s like watching LOST.
