now Vince Carter goes to Magic....

east is getting absurd…..

Dwight, Rashard Lewis, Turkoglu, Jameer Nelson…
well i guess starts piling up in some teams in the east may spark a weapons race, weakening the west and easing our path to the playoffs. What do you think?

Turkoglu said he'd opt out

Don’t count him on the Magic quite yet. This move was made so they could resign him.

possible, but it could also just be teams that were pretty good in the east feasting on the talent sitting on bottom feeder teams. i’d guess that the whole nba just becomes more top-heavy.

I'm Luvin' the trade for the Magic

Breaking: Orlando Magic Acquire Vince Carter of the New Jersey Nets for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie, and Courtney Lee [Third Quarter Collapse]
Dwight + Vinsanity vs. Shaq + LeBron vs. Boston Three Party + Rajon

The East is going to be really interesting next season.

It's basically now or never for the Cavs and Magic.

Kind of like the Celtics move 2 years ago with KG and Ray Ray. Stirs things up…makes it insane over there. Should get pretty interesting, but who knows? Maybe the 76ers will come up (AI and Brand) or Chicago might shake things up again.

Anything is possible…

I think the Magic have a pretty big contention window with their superstar being so young. It’s now or never for the Cavs though. Their superstar is NY bound a year from now. It’s now or never for the Celts too. KG, Ray-Ray, and Pierce aren’t getting any younger.

by Atma Brother ONE on Jun 25, 2009 2:43 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

The only thing shortening the Magic’s window is VC, but other then that they’re still pretty good for the future as long as they have Dwight Howard.

if evans should end up in oaktown

and not get traded off, there’s potential for at least a couple of big lessons we’ll have to learn: what does all the scouting from a decent college resume really amount to—there’s a fair amount of it indicating he has ball-hog tendencies and has to have the ball to be effective—so a possible outcome is that it’s accurate, and he’s not good enough with the ball against nba defenders to be a strong starting guard. then comes the cliche lesson—be careful what you wish for. evans also declined coming in for interviews and workouts, so there’s another unknown factor with his personality—a young guard will have the ‘benefit’ of working with ellis and jackson.

Draft countdown: The Warriors’ Stoudemire bubble, Hill’s jumper, and more [Talking Points]

  • Don Nelson wants Stoudemire or Bosh badly. Shoot, so do I!
  • Nelson has grudingly played him because Biedrins hustles and rebounds and plays a little defense, but the lack of any jumpshot means that Biedrins is always a borderline talent in Nelson’s eyes.
    Nellie’s a smart man.
  • But if there’s no Amare, and if, when it comes to it, Nelson can’t stomach Hill’s lack of offensive repetoire (and remember, it’s always about offense for Nelson)… then do the Warriors jump the rails on Ellis and take Stephen Curry or Brandon Jennings? "They do something like that, they’ll know they’ll hear from Monta," said one source.
How about hearing he’s working on his game?
  • Wright could get moved for a late-first-rounder or a 3pt shooter
  • Monta’s probably not happy about Acie Law coming to the Dubs

by Atma Brother ONE on Jun 25, 2009 3:03 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

two things

if monta’s unhappy about acie law coming to town, he better get some thicker skin. acie law isn’t competing for a starting job anywhere right now.

i still can’t get over the problems with shipping out a productive center for a bosh/amare rental. if we are able to extend either of them, it’ll probably be for the max and neither is a max player. i just don’t like it.

heart of a champion, will of the warrior.

Wright could get moved for a late-first-rounder or a 3pt shooter

Late first rounder would be INSANE. Wright has played well in the league and is younger than a lot of these guys. Would he be any lower than fifth if he were in this draft?

Hill or Curry

DraftExpress Live Blog

If Minnesota keeps the pick, it looks very likely that they will take Jonny Flynn with one of those picks, with the other pick likely being used on James Harden. Some people think that DeMar DeRozan could be a target, but that seems far-fetched. That would leave Golden State with an interesting dilemma at 7—take Jordan Hill or Stephen Curry? It seems like they would lean towards Hill, although this is a tough one to call.

by Atma Brother ONE on Jun 25, 2009 3:10 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Minnesota

Would that still be the case if Ricky Rubio is still available to them?

by Precise Films Productions on Jun 25, 2009 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Interesting turn

I didn’t think Minny would take Flynn with one of their two high picks. Harden and Flynn ain’t bad by any stretch, but I figured they would take Curry.

So if all plays out…

Draft Curry = Keep Curry?
Draft Hill = Potential trade?

this ain’t the brazil of earlier this decade. spain is a significantly stronger side than brazil is now. if the US plays that same scrappy, hard working aggressive style they played in the first half (and sporadically in the second), they can win that game. brazil does play a super weird style, though. some sort of modified 4-2-3-1 with robinho acting more as a combo striker/winger. it’ll be an interesting match.

According to a statement from agent Bill Duffy: “Because we do not have a strong grasp of Brandon’s draft position, I’ve advised that he and his family enjoy this day in a more private setting with the people he loves the most. Brandon Jennings will have a very illustrious career in the NBA, and at the end of the day, that is all that is important.”

I was just messing wit you, but it does sound a little more serious than I intended it too now that I read it back. Have fun, it’s an open thread. Just don’t try to trick me again. ; )

Thing 2

by olympicmike on Jun 25, 2009 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think open threads are going to be inherently “noisy”, but I’m interested in hearing people’s ideas on how to improve them if they need improving.

Open threads are about raw emotion, live action, etc. I don’t expect them to be as thoughtful and detailed as the comments in articles, FanPosts, and FanShots- but again that’s just my thinking.

by Atma Brother ONE on Jun 25, 2009 3:37 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agree completely...

I think an open thread, by nature, is going to be a lot of shooting from the hip. I really don’t mind that at all. In fact there are a good amount of GSoMers who come here specifically to live chat with other Warriors fans during the game.

No way. He’s too injury prone.

But if this team with Monta, AR, Amare, Maggette, Buike, Morrow, Turiaf, etc can make an exciting run and prove last year was due to some extraordinary circumstances, then maybe they could lure someone better. Who? I don’t want to get that far ahead.

Interesting

A source close to the situation has informed HOOPSWORLD that the Phoenix Suns are now in hot pursuit of Brandon Jennings. The word is the Suns will try to trade up to at least the sixth pick, with Amar’e Stoudemire as the likely bait, as the Golden State Warriors are reportedly interested in taking Jennings at seven so they can trade him.

Here’s the weird thing about the Amare trade: it makes MUCH more sense for both teams to wait two months, doesn’t it? Two months from now, when the Clazton and Law contracts are packageable, the Suns can get some of the financial relief they’re thirsting and we can avoid giving up this many young pieces. What’s the rush?

FYI on Live Blog

Picks 1-7 will be announced on the front page in separate posts. Then we’ll have a single 1st Round Open Thread for picks 8-30. Same thing for the 2nd round picks.

It will be curious to see if the Dubs intro their pick in the next few days or not.

(is anyone else having a hard time keeping up in this thread?)

It’s be SWEET if we could keep the pick.

I would concede if we could swap picks

But PHX might want to keep the 14th to see if they can trade it to Oklahoma City for their 2010 unprotected 1st.

If the Warriors are gonna get anything out of these trades rumors, they’re going to have to make a pretty “steep” deal considering the talent on this team isn’t all that appealing to the rest of the league.
