Curry!!!

I’m super psyched, I love him being in Oakland, but I don’t know what we are going to do with him >.<

Now if we can find a way to get Amare without giving up Curry...

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.

"It takes a special kind of anti-mojo for a team to miss the playoffs 14 out of 15 seasons. Like, say, the Warriors under Chris Cohan."

PLEASE DONT DO IT WARRIORS!

The buzz here in Az is my thinking EXACTLY… we are getting fleeced on this deal if we give them Curry! Does anyone in the Bay Area understand THIS WILL BE WORSE THAN WHAT THE LAKERS DID TO GRIZZLIES LAST YEAR!!!
Read this from the AZ papers this morning… they are already counting on a 4 for 1 trade with Curry included… and if they try to throw in Barbosa…we are screwed EVEN MORE!

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2009/06/26/20090626sunscurry.html

They should be more than happy to get Beans/Wright and Belinilli.
I cant believe we are even considering this trade. Everyone down here in the desert is pumped about this trade and KNOW Stoudamire is past his prime. Has anyone in SF looked at a medical file on this has been?
BUt a bigger question is : why are’nt we looking at BOSH instead?

by WarriorFanHatesTheSunsInAZ on Jun 26, 2009 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

“why are’nt we looking at BOSH instead?”

Because Amare’s better than Bosh, there’s really no argument in Bosh’s favor here. Throwing Curry in the deal in addition to Biedrins, Wright, Belineli is probably too much, but just the fact that Curry is a piece of the deal shouldn’t be a big deal. We just have to make sure all the pieces included don’t add up to more value than we’d get out of Stoudemire.

I don't buy it

I think he’d be totally fine playing for us. Nellie will let him do whatever he wants, warm weather, etc. I think he just had his heart set on the Knick, like practically every player. He’ll be fine playing here (if we don’t trade him to the Suns), IMO

Will Nellie even let him play?

by calgbear on Jun 25, 2009 5:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nellie actually has a good history of playing smarter rookies with high basketball IQs who have played 3 or 4 years in college, all qualities Curry has. I see your point, but I still think he’ll get good minutes if he ends up still on the team.

by Neon on Jun 25, 2009 5:43 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think it’s more that he wanted to play for the Knicks. But it doesn’t matter, he’s a Warrior, so he’ll come and work just as hard to be just as good for us as he would for the Knicks.

Biedrins is a Base-year compensation player, which would really make this deal hard to pull off. But I at some point in July (not sure if it’s the 1st, the start of the new season, or 15th, the anniversary of the signing) the BYC status falls away. So they can only agree in principle for now. … Kawakami just found out it’s July 1 the BYC status drops off

Oh, I thought you were suggesting Amare for Curry straight up was a realistic trade. I love Biedrins, and I don’t feel like this Amare trade is putting us in the right position to succeed, long term. It’s just that with the current state of the fanbase I wouldn’t doubt that management would jeopardize long term success for short term gratification.

CitizenE

Lotta excitement in the comments, but I don’t get it. What the Warriors needed was a John Stockton kind of point guard if any, a ball handler and someone who could bring the d. Another shooter? They are now three deep at the two and three—the shooting position. This is so Nellie. They need beef up front, someone to help Andris in the middle, and Hill would have brought that. Looks like the same old next year to me, a hundred and zillion per game, still a bunch of turnovers, no real defense in the paint—mark of champions—and more losses than wins despite a bench loaded with talent. If I were looking at the point, I would have traded down for Lawson and got some 24 minute beef from someone in the trade.

by CitizenE on Jun 25, 2009 5:48 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

There wasn’t an obvious pick here, if you tell me you know one of the available players is going to be better than Curry you’re full of it. In a draft of question marks, gotta just go with the flow and root for the guy we got. Lovin’ Curry (even though I would have picked Jennings).

IS EVERYONE CRAZY HERE!!

What a day for the Warriors!!! Lets take a look at this…

Draft Curry—Best player available, will be the point guard of the future. Keep him, let him play next to Monta and take over the league. Hell… let him come off the bench

Trade according to ESPN—
Amare to Dubs

Wright, Belli, Beans go to the Suns

Belli-expendable with Curry. Curry is everything we always wished Belli would be
Wright- was getting no playing time anyway, so off you go
Beans—Gets to be replaced by Amare.

All we gotta do is learn how to play D. Let Randolph play the 4 with Amare at 5, and go from there. Jax plays the 3, Maggs comes off the bench, and this team is on its way to some serious condending. LOVE IT

by pinkycheal on Jun 25, 2009 6:29 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

I agree in theory...but they're still the Warriors

But I agree. We have too many "decent’ players and not enough GREAT players. Amare is a great player, a desperately-needed PF who can score. Takes some pressure of Randolph. Biedrins is good/great, also and I’d hate to see him go, but if I’m building a team, I’d take Amare over Biedrins. Curry is a good shooter who can penetrate the paint. Will be interesting to see how well his game translates to the NBA.

by billjitsu on Jun 25, 2009 6:57 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Belli-expendable with Curry. Curry is everything we always wished Belli would be

Thats a stupid comment because you don’t know how Curry will do.
Suns want Marco because he is a perfect player for their system. The suns know what they are doing. They will maximize the potential of the players we have that we didn’t develop. Wright is perfect as well because he runs with Nash, Marco, and Barbosa.
Biedrins is Biedrins.

Cause Havoc. Bring Nash in and 120 point games will be very expected

Agreement

with the your comment on the thought about how we don’t know how Curry will do. I totally agree, even though we didn’t draft any bust such as B-Jennings, I’ll rather go with Curry. For some reason, it’s just like drafting another Monta. Same baby face, almost the same height. Oh man, that would be quite entertaining.

by justinleagueheroes on Jun 25, 2009 7:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly

I don’t know that much about Curry, but it sounds like he’s Monta 2.0.

Not sure we’re going to win a lot with two players like that getting a lot of minutes.

by Ronaldinho on Jun 25, 2009 7:12 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Curry seems to be a better passer. After his soph year, word was that he had to show that he could pass in order to be a point guard in the NBA. He did exactly that, upping his assists without sacrificing his own offense. I know it’s hyperbole, but Bobby Knight is on record as saying Curry is the best passer he’s seen in the college game. I like what I’ve seen with him at the point.

by jae on Jun 25, 2009 10:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dig the pick

just thinking about the starting lineup? Curry at point, Monta at 2, Capt. Jack at 3, Randolph at 4, & Biedrins OR Amare** at 5? sounds pretty solid to me.

by justinleagueheroes on Jun 25, 2009 7:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

listen to nelson

folks who like to condemn the coach for not giving rookies a chance— he’s gushing over curry, on the warriors round table radio show w. Roye. (those interviews usually get archived on warriors.com or knbr.com) he sees him as a nash-like passer, loves his court sense and how he runs the break. sure sounds to me like curry will get a great opportunity under nelson. the coach seems to be on the same wave length as the illustrious knight and jae.

just dont get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY trade to just trade it doesnt make sense? i dont want a guy with a bum knee, one eye, and a free agent at the end of the year? he is not even a dominent center. hes an o.k. powerforward at this point in his career. i do not want to give up three former first round picks all having all the tools to keep improving. plus they are all still so young! beens is a better center that amare! we keep on talking about how we need a big guard next to ellis and we already have him in marco at 6 ft 5 inches?!? wright is still raw but runs like a deer, blocks shots, and has a lot of potential to be good to great! if amare is sooo good why are they trying to trade him! the suns sucked last year with amare (nash shaq, j-rich) even before amare got hurt! the warriors have a good team but with ellis hurt last year it hurt the chemistry. imagine if any other team lost there best player. we already have a realy good starting five and if we have too many smalls let them fight for a job and cut the weakest. we have a power forward in turiaf if need be. beens and him played well togther last year. let wright and randolph come of the bench or beens and randolph starting and the other two come off the bench. with ellis, curry, jackson, randolph, and beens as the starting five im happy. the trade creates more holes than anything especialy if amare would to get hurt again! with that starting five our bench is still good. when the warriors trade nothing every good happen, please learn from our past moves! GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by 22goose on Jun 26, 2009 12:03 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I don’t mind that you’re against the trade…

“a free agent at the end of the year? he is not even a dominent center. hes an o.k. powerforward at this point in his career.”

But come on, let’s at least be reasonable here. First off, if we trade for him it’s because we worked out a contract extension. Second off, an ok power forward? Really? That’s all you think he is?

“beens is a better center that amare!”

Ummm….no. Offensively, Amare scores more efficienty than Biedrins and at a much, much, much higher rate. He’s a way better offensive player. Lately his rebounding rate has gone down, but before Shaq he rebounded at a decent rate (10-11 per 36). Not quite as good as Biedrins but not that far either. They block a similar number of shots. Their on ball defense is similar. There just isn’t an argument that Biedrins is better than Amare, sorry.

“i do not want to give up three former first round picks all having all the tools to keep improving. plus they are all still so young!”

If you think that’s too much to give up for Amare, I’m sure you can make a reasonable argument. Simply being first round picks doesn’t mean a whole lot, though. I would guess most NBA players are former first round picks, and just because they’re young doesn’t mean they’re actually going to be good. Don’t get blinded by the fact that they may become good and start assuming they will.

Bittersweet Draft Day

As I was waiting anxiously for the NBA Draft to begin, the news of MJ’s death really caught me off guard and put me in a melancholy mood. I can’t believe The King of Pop is dead. Fortunately, about an hour later, Mr. David Stern (of all people) had news that quickly put a smile on my face. Stephen Curry is a Warrior.

So far so good in the Larry Riley era of Warriors hoops. I was so relieved Jordan Hill’s name was not called out. Hopefully the front office won’t mess it up and trade him.

After some thought, trading for Amare sounds less and less appealing. I know there’s a gap at the 4, but giving up AB, Marco, Bookie, and possibly Steph is a bit much. The same goes for CB4 in Toronto. The Raptors will probably want a similar package for him as well. There has to be a “big” out there that won’t require dismantling the team. Since the Clips drafted Blake Griffin, how about Marcus Camby?? He’s injury prone and 35 yrs. old, but the Dubs probably won’t have to give up as much as getting Amare. Plus he’s all about defense. This lineup is stockpiled with scorers. How about a defensive specialist?? Speaking of defensive specialists, another one is AK-47 in Utah. Last year I lobbied for trading Clueless Al for Kirilenko. Well, TMNT did get traded, now it’s time for Drago to make his way to the Bay…..

why draft a tweener guard in Curry?

Monta is also a tweener but I think he is a better tweener than Curry. Curry played at Davidson in a weak conference. Sure he shined in the tournament, but that’s where teams have not had the time to prepare. Curry is smallish, and he plays small. Davidson had a deliberate style of play that fit Curry. But I don’t know how well he would do in the pros where everyone is bigger and more athletic than in the college game and also has time to scout him.

And he will be a liability on D, since he is small and he is more of a gunner and not much of a defender. It is possible the Ws are not done dealing so we will see but I give the Curry pick a B-/C+.

Most people (and by that I mean pretty much everyone) are projecting Curry to be a PG.
