Mehmet Okur might be available... thoughts?
According to ESPN's insider, Okur may be considering "opting out" of his Jazz colours! Now I have never been a huge fan of this guy as a person, but he really can provide some heavy firepower at key moments in games. He is not affraid to get in people's faces and might be a great bruiser that gives AR room to play.
If he was available...should GSW go after him?
I was thinking of line up's and this:
Curry, Ellis, Okur, Biedrins, Randolph,
with rotation of:
Law,Morrow,Jackson, Turiaf, Buike, Looks pretty good to me.
and fill in's as required - CJ, Magette, Claxton, Marco
I suspect Wright may be gone this summer, possibly Marco too. Unlike many, I think Maggette does add an element to our game which in the right moment is very useful.
For example a lineup of Marco/Morrow, Jackson, Okur, Turiaf, Magette would be pretty physical...
Anyway smarter (perceived or at least in their own opinion) minds will probably have views on this, which I would be interested to hear?

I would think that Okur wants more than a full MLE, and if he settles on the MLE, he’ll want it for as long as he can get it. He’ll be 30 next season. 5 year deals for guys that age aren’t something that you want to collect. We’ve already got a pair. Three of a kind would be great if this was poker.

If we were in championship contender position that sort of a deal would make sense, but we’re clearly not, so it doesn’t.
If a team like the Grizzlies were to give Okur a 6 year MLE deal that would raise a lot of eyebrows, but if a team like the Spurs did, I don’t think it would.

5 year deal obviously, only the original team could sign him to a 6 year deal.

Indeed...BUT I WANT A FULL HOUSE!
What if…..
We kept Curry, lost Wright, Marco and say CJ to the Suns for Amare….
A line up of Curry, Ellis, Biedrins, Amare, Randolph with rotation of
Morrow, Jackson, Buike, Okur and Turiaf….
with Magette, Law, Claxton and maybe another D league pick up…
Then…I think we become a serious contender in the West this year?

C'mon Briy. I thought you were better than that.
No way Phoenix does that and the contracts don’t even work.

the contracts aren’t even close though! If you wanna dream you may as well throw in LeBron and Howard, Brit.

Yep his speed was something that I wondered about...
But then again Ronny T is not exactly Carl Lewis….(oh dear showing my age there)

Ok its not perceived..its actually a fact..
and your sayin to..umm…have Jackson come of the bench?? Curry will not start the season at the point. If anything he will back up Monta for the most part at the 1. Them starting will leave our backcourt severely handicapp with size, strength and on ball defence.
It might even make more sense to start Marco at the 2 with Jackson at the 3. Marco has more size and is our best perimeter defender.
If we could get okur for the full MLE well it couldnt hurt but I would rather throw that at Brandon Bass/players like that. More physical and provides toughness inside.

no, he isn't that good at all.
he can’t play D and his rebounding isn’t ok. The only great thing he does is shoot 3’s. other then that his game is average at best. So no I wouldn’t want him here.

Well if he’s playing the 5 that’s not that big of a deal. You can easily run a fast break with the 1-4 and have Okur trail, especially since he can spot up on the trail for the secondary break. Being a running team isn’t always about beating the other team down the court for a 2 on 1…
I imagine Nelson would enjoy having Okur spread the floor with his ability to shoot the 3 at his size. Not saying overall it’s a good idea, as he definitely has weaknesses (pretty much everything else), but offensively he can at least contribute something.

I’m not willing to dish out the money for Okur. I think he’s a solid player, but you have to pick your battles.
