Why Amare and why now
first of all -i didn't believed that all this trade is real untill draft day when Yahoo was corresponding
Warriors coach Don Nelson is telling friends that there’s nothing seriously brewing there
then i understood it's serious as serious as it could be
i started to think why this trade should happen -because Suns from business perspective are way more interested in this trade than W's -without this trade W's are still in good position to build a playoff team for years to come -with all trade chips they are capable to move all bad contracts away and get good players back -this would not be a contender at the moment but still it would be great team with regular playoffs presence
1. Mullin shipped away
via www.wowowow.com
about in middle of last season it was clear -this team isn't going nowhere + heavy contracts of Maggette Crawford and Sjax was a hard burden
W's needed guy who is capable to make a lot of heavy moves -who is good at scouting, got enough contacts in league and know how to talk
and here comes Riley
2. Riley
he is in pretty tough position -he is in between Nellie and Rowel and if you are in situation like that you can't afford a luxury of even single mistake -but Riley is experienced man with his big ticket to next level -so he will do at best whatever this doom duo will ask him to do (no he isn't a puppet -he is probably almost only who is capable to do this job now because of mix of different reasons)
Why Amare and why now
via secure.michaelsactionart.com
Nellie needs Amare now as much as Suns want to trade him because this is his last year of coaching and he is closer to HOF with his coaching record more than ever -but to do that he needs not just get to the playoffs but to do this in some kind of pompous way
-plus Cohan needs it just because -imagine how many tickets will be renewed in next week after Amare is signed
Prediction (speculation)
Amare will be signed for 3 years and KB+BW+MB+AB are going to Phoenix -it still isn't the last move -i expect Maggete (or even Jack) will be traded untill trade deadline (most likely this summer) along with Claxton and Law for some "damn good veterans" -prolly they will not be exactly "damn good" but still quality players who are capable to run run run
-this will be good team in short term (prolly capable to reach conference finals) but after ...dunno -maybe collapse maybe slow death maybe 42 wins team with no playoffs

via ecotality.com
i still think that W's would be in a better position without this trade -it's a risky move -i'd never put all my money to single horse -but Nellie is a probably the biggest poker player in NBA
PS -excuse my ENG skillz (punctuation etc)
and to Sleepy -yess -i'll still gonna check GSoM time after time
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

better than amare
“to do that he needs not just get to the playoffs but to do this in some kind of pompous way”—haha, very true. my opinion, we’d be a better team, or at least make more sense, if we could just dump maggette and jack’s contracts. everything becomes so clear:
1-curry, law, 2-monta, belinelli, 3-azabuike, morrow, 4-randolph, wright, 5-andris, turiaf. no scrubs; 2 solid players at every position. that’s a team i could watch for years. get some of those guys to develop some defensive/ team effort (like that utah game to close the season), and barring injury, we’ll be contending for the 7th/8th seed first year, national darlings again, with years to improve. not sure i’d want any of those guys defending lebron though…

PROBLEM IS...
not one of those Warriors dominates at their position! And as we’ve seen in years past, we’re lacking on the dominant PF! Yes, I think Randolph will be a damn good player, but I don’t think he’s a true PF! He’s like Durant! He’ll handle the ball and slash, but won’t have the strength to play w/ his back to the basket.
That team is no different than it was last year, except for the addition of Curry and the loss of Crawford, which I think will hurt more than people think. You said it yourself…don’t think anyone of those guys could defend Lebron, but then again, don’t think anyone really can anyway!

we need amare
i dont think the people that dont want this trade understand it to the fullest. HOW CAN YOU PASS UP A SUPERSTAR BLOCKBUSTER TRADE IF THIS FRANCHISE HAS NEVER HAD ONE?!?!?
1. Good for business
2. Good for wins
3. Good for fans
4. Warriors will be a respectable team once again around the league
6. Everyone on the team gets better with a superstar around them
7. Do you know how big of an international superstar Amare is? Nike anyone?
8. National TV spotlight
9. Playoffs
10. Roaracle will be sold out every game and season ticket holders will once again have made a good investment.

Easy ... you don't think it's really a superstar blockbuster trade
That’s really what this is all about. Is this really a trade that makes us better? Does it make us enough better to deal with the salary-cap implications, as well as enough better to give up one of our key young players?
Let’s look at your comments one at a time:
1. Good for business? Actually, there’s very little evidence to suggest that adding a star improves attendance. Winning more does, but those are very different things.
2. Good for wins? This is the crux of the matter. Does Amare’s scoring make up for the reduced reboudning?
3. Good for fans? I think winning is good for fans, so really, this is just the same as 2. If we win more, then it’s a good trade. But that winning more isn’t as much of a given as you seem to think it is.
4. Respectable again? Not if we trade a younger, more efficient player for an older player on the downslope of his career who we have to overpay to keep. In fact, that’s one of the key reasons we’re a laughingstock: paying too much for players who don’t deserve it. Amare is asking for max-type money, and as good as he’s been, he’s not a max-type player.
6. (What happened to five?) This is an assertion for which I’d like to see evidence. Since Amare’s primary skill is his scoring, it’s hard to see how he makes other players around him better. This is especially true since he’s not a guy who draws a lot of double-teams because of his style of play.
7. Amare’s really not that big a star, relatively speaking. He’s no LBJ or Kobe. Yeah, he gets Nike posters, but the truth is that when somebody’s “star power” outweighs what they bring to the court, that just means you have to overpay them. Amare having fans elsewhere doesn’t add wins to the Warriors.
8. If we win, we’ll get on national TV. If we’re losing, we won’t.
9. Playoffs would be nice. THere’s no reason to think that they’re a given if we make this trade, which probably makes us slighly better in the short term. WIthout other improvements “slightly better” doesn’t get us in the playoffs.
10. Again, sellouts happen when the team wins. So it all really hinges on that.
Don’t be blinded by “star power.” It’s doesn’t necessarily do very much for you on its own.

well put, but on number four, amare is actually more efficient than andris offensively. it’s closer than most people think, but amare’s true shooting is better than andris’.
amare is better than andris, but he’s not a max player, and depending on the package, we might actually be a little worse off with him than with what we’d give up for him. if we could work out an extension for well under the max (and actually, a little under what he makes now, considering he’s probably a little overpaid) and avoid gutting the team to get him, then you have to do it, but it doesn’t look like that’s what will happen.

I think a 3 year extension for Amare would be really good for the Warriors no matter the cost, but I highly doubt that would be an acceptable resolution for Mr. Stoudemire.

Awesome work, Lat.
Happy to hear you’re sticking around even if your countryman may not be. :,-(
My mood du jour: Nellie’s got me drinking the Curry kool-aid to the point where my preferred realistic Amare package is now Monta + Biedrins — whom last year at this time I considered the heart of the franchise! To even up the $$$ we throw in Kelenna or Marco (their choice), they throw in Barbosa.
Curry / Barbosa
Jack / Morrow
Maggette / Azubuike
Randolph / Wright
Amare / Turiaf
Anything not to like about that group?

that’s a very interesting lineup… i’d probably say barbosa would start at the point, but really, i’m not sure about that (i love curry too and he might be a better passer than barbosa, but we’ll find out next year i suppose). i like your deal more than the amare for biedrins, wright, marco, curry/buike deal.

Anything not to like about that group?
i don’t see Curry runnin’ point at this moment under Nellie
-in his final year he’d prefer something ‘more proven’ -a la Monta or someone with more experience (IMO PO experience) -i think Nellie want’s to keep Curry more as attractive trade chip not ’future of the franchise
all what i’ve seen until now suggests this moment is major turnaround point via trades
-Riley replaced Mullin because he’s not exactly great ‘trade GM’ -he did 2 good trades just because some teams wanted to get rid of some unwanted players -he wasn’t exactly guy who’s capable to talk talk talk on the phone to rise some interest -Riley seems to be -his communication skills are just way better
but still
Curry / Barbosa
Jack / Morrow
Maggette / Azubuike
Randolph / Wright
Amare / Turiaf
Anything not to like about that group?
Amare he is not kind of player i’d want to build on (take away him and this lineup is about # 12-14 in lottery) -even if he is healthy he never was described as great teammate or guy with great work ethic or just smart player or just nice guy
-risk level is high (that’s why expect Amare will be signed for 3 not 5 years) -but Nellie seems to know what he’s doing (while i don’t think he’s fan of Warriors and feel a lot of responsibility what will happen when he’ll be gone)
