A Sad Day for Yao and his fans
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-yaorockets062909&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
If you have not heard, Yahoo Sports has run a story that Yao Ming's basketball career may be over. His injury in the playoffs this year is more serious than once thought and now is at career-threatening stage. The report also conclude that the team has already concluded that Yao will miss the entire NBA 2009-2010 Season.
The Rockets and Yao’s reps are frightened over his future, and the concern is the most base of all: Does Yao Ming ever play again?
"The realization has hit them that this is grave," one NBA general manager said.
Yao's future at this point seems very doubtful at this point. His allegiance to his home country and his dedication to the game and his fans may have been a precursor to this final outcome. In each of the past four seasons, Yao has had his season end either due to injury. He has come back quickly from all of those injuries. His participation for China in the Olympics and various events has not only led to the aggrevation of these injuries.
There’s no reason for the Rockets to disclose the severity of the injury, nor the uncertainty over Yao’s future. Before the Rockets go public with a dire diagnosis, they plan to send him to three more specialists this week, a source said. For now, the Rockets have season tickets and sponsorships to sell. For now, the Rockets will publicly decry these doomsday revelations as premature, but this is the reality that they’re working under within the organization.
This may not become official for awhile is the point but the inconvenient truth is already thrust upon NBA fans, the Rockets organization, and Yao himself.
The sad part about this is Yao is one of the few quality people left in the NBA. He is a gentle giant, and a giant of his stature deserves a better ending but it was put best by the Yahoo story.
Yao wouldn’t have missed the Beijing Olympics for the world, but it was clear he wasn’t fully healed in those Games. The Rockets paid a price for his nationalism, his obligation and now the darkest fears are close to confirmation: It isn’t just a season on the brink for Yao Ming, but perhaps a career.

Sad Day For Yao
Then he rolled over and remembered he gets paid 8 jillion dollars a year to play basketball.
I feel sorry for the 1.6 billion Chinese fans that were Yao supporters.

I had a career ending injury...
Time heals many things..Especially at $15,000,000 a year for the next 3 years even if he never plays.

I hope this article...
is exaggerating a bit. Yao is a great player and a great guy. Also, why aren’t we talking about trading for McGrady? He’s not worth much. Maybe the Rockets would give us a first round draft pick with McGrady for Biedrins and Maggette.

to get rid of maggette
and you never know he may come back better than ever.

Naticus has a great idea since the Rockets will likely miss the playoffs next year their pick will be good. They only took the Lakers so far because the Lakers were taking them for granted until game 7 also Artest made Bryant take shitloads of shots to get his points. Bryant might end up as the least deserving HOFer ever. Broke up a dynasty with his brattiness, prevented Malone and Payton from getting their ring, cheated on his hot (although met when she was 16 and he was 21, and she was a video girl) wife in a place like Colorado where of course race is still a big issue, tries to be like Jordan yet needs a team as loaded as last year’s Lakers just to make the Finals what kind of guy is this??! Anyway T- Mac would be a good real 3 to go along with Jackson, he rebounds well and he’s not washed up, he’s just fed up with the lack of offense around him. Won’t be a problem here, and for a former dunk contest participant to have lost a couple inches that’s still freakin athletic. Also he won’t have to tire out with the ball running through him so often which has been a problem in Houston. McGrady could run pick and rolls with our guys. And then he can defend the serious 3s if necessary while our guards like Ellis & Curry score those particular games. Morrow Belli Buike can hit the outside shots off McGrady drive n kicks Randolph & Jackson can post up yeah then sign a random level center like Gortat just for d and rebounding, trade Wright for a 250 lb+ 4 that can run the floor such as Bass from Dallas, aka Nowitski’s backup Bass bodying up centers and Randolph or T-Mac coming over with the shotblock could become commonplace

Maggette although not technically old is on the downhill of his career anyone remember when he used to avg 22 on a team with Brand getting 18-20. Maggette should go he won’t be burning his former team the Warriors with Stephen Jackson on it!
by polar on Jun 29, 2009 1:55 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
some top teams could really use a Maggette we need to see what’s up he’s not THAT overpaid

I know Ariza wants to stay with his champions but I say offer him 35 mil over 6 years see what he says he’s still improving he could come up under Jackson then as Jackson fades by the end of his contract his minutes will shift to the 2 to back up Bellinelli. Ariza will take over the 3 Azebuike should be gone by then and Randolph should be at Bosh level by 11-12 season

Ariza...
…is on no uncertain terms THE guy I want the Warriors to sign. A long contract, too. At his age, he’s already had the experience of basically tipping the scales of an entire playoff series (Denver). He works hard, he’s turned himself into a deadeye three point gunner, and he can play lockdown, suffocating defense. If the Warriors signed him, even I in all my zeal would have to tip my hat to Nelson and Riley. Ariza is a solution at SF for years to come.

Not true. He now has the ability to hit 3’s and the large majority are spot up wide open threes that Kobe created.

Wow...
sad day for Yao, the NBA, China, and basketball in general. I really hope that the claim that his career may be over is exaggerated. I’d hate to see him have to walk away so early in his career.

Do you think this means there’s an opening for a new starting center in the All – Star game, or is Yao still a lock in the voting if he never suits up?
by jae on Jun 29, 2009 2:11 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
McGrady almost made it this just because he plays on the same team as Yao….I think Yao is still a lock is he’s on the ballot.

“GREG ODEN WAS A #1 DRAFT PICK!!!!!!!”
“ANDRUW BYNUM PLAYS FOR THE LAKERS!!!!!!!!”
“AL JEFFERSON GETS POINTS!!!!”
Sorry but these types of thinking could/will ruin your hopes for Biedrins. Also Camby is still very good and a much more well known name, and I wouldn’t be all that surprised if Tim Duncan now decides he gonna start calling himself a center on all-star ballots with Shaq back in the East and Yao out.

Hey polar let me ask you something.
Why did you just make 6 posts in a row, all of which have basically no purpose.

This is probably true, I actually commented on this when he first got hurt
I don’t know any more than the rest of you but my dad is a foot and ankle surgeon who operated on Bill Walton’s foot and it’s the same type of problem that caused Bill to retire early. His foot is structurally unsound (common for many but it becomes worse when your abnormally large) and his enormous size buts more stress on his feet than people have evolved to withstand, too many little bones and too big a guy. After he starts getting these injuries to his foot then he becomes even more susceptible to an even worse injury. It’s not so much that his foot is disfigured or useless but it just doesn’t have the strength to withstand the rigors of the NBA.
While I’m on the subject of injury I wanna talk about Monta’s ankle. When I first heard the news I e-mailed my dad all sorts of links that had information about the injury. His expert opinion laid it out in layman’s terms like this: Monta damaged every ligament connecting his leg to his foot, the worst possible ankle sprain. He knew it was fishy right away because it takes tremendous forces to tear a deltoid ligament so he couldn’t have been working out, so thats where the moped came in.
The Prognosis was even worse. Reports said 3 months to heal. And yes it takes three months for you to get all the casts and bandages off, then you have months of rehab before the ankle heals entirely after 1 YEAR, we still haven’t seen the real Monta. Even after that year most people have stiffness in their ankle for the rest of their lives, but Monta should be expected to be different for a few reasons. The surgery is extremely difficult because you not only have to reattach everything but you must make sure the ligaments maintain the proper amount of tension to work right, and Monta did have his surgery by one of the best in Dr. Andrews. Beyond that we all know Monta is an exceptional athlete with the drive and training staff to rehab more effectively than any off us could ever hope. So I honestly believe Monta will be back with a vengeance this year along with the quickness and polish he lacked last season. I expect him to play more like the end of the 07-08 season where he initiated the offense and put up 25-30 pts.

Andris may have a shot at the all star game now
No Shaq or Yao now. If he comes in this year like last year but even better he may have a shot
by GSW9 on Jun 29, 2009 3:25 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
better chance of winning the lottery.
Amare will be back at the center spot and Duncan is now playing center.
Al Jefferson is going to get considered before Andris too. because Nene & Chandler are on teams with a history of winning, they’ll get consideration.
Dirk, Gasol, Aldridge (if he gets considered) can always be “moved” to C b/c they do play minutes there.
and there is the chance Oden or Bynum blow up.
by homer simpson on Jun 29, 2009 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
It really depends who is listed as a C in the balloting. Does Duncan finally get appropriately labeled? Probably not. Who else gets listed? Gasol? Will he be listed as a PF as well? Jefferson?
My bet is that Bynum wins (after the Yao votes) out unless someone explodes on the scene because he plays for LA.
by jae on Jun 29, 2009 4:37 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
That sucks for Yao, hopefully he can recover, but he should take a season off and fix his body.
One of the few quality people left in the NBA? You make it sound like there are only 2 or 3 left…unless that’s what you believe?
