Interview with Pat Washington - Anthony Randolph's High School Coach
I don't know about you guys, but all this talk about Amare vs Biedrins the past few days has me Amare-ed out. So here's something completely different, an interview with AR's HS coach.
(By Rasheed @ warriorsworld.net) Coach Washington talks about AR in high school, going into the NBA, his rookie season, and his future. He gave some great coaching advice to AR on dealing with Nellie's benching, and also losing in practice to Kurz.
Also, this section jumped out at me: "The rules of the game were simple, if you play, you can never stop running no matter what. If your ball is stolen then you have to run back and defend, if you stop or get tired, we sub you out no questions asked, if your not hustling on defense or if the other team scores they get the ball again." This made me think about how BWright indecisively stands around when rebounding while AR jumps out of the building to get a rebound. AR has it ingrained himself to never stop. I don't think BWright had that in him, so he got yanked.

I laughed when i read this
Early in the season Rob Kurz was killing Anthony in practice which is why Coach Nelson played Rob ahead of Anthony in games
It is the shoes!!!

who knows...
maybe Rob Kurz really is better than Anthony Randolph, he was just never given the chance to shine in the regular season.
PG: Stephen Curry
SG: Monta Ellis
SF: Anthony Randolph
PF: Rob Kurz
C: Andris Biedrins
6th man: Anthony Morrow
That line-up is winning us a championship 3 years from now!

Rob Kurz had plenty of time in the regular season

still was only 442 minutes. the only guys he played more than (for the Warriors) are Harrington, DeMarcus, Davidson & Marcus Williams.
put in perspective, Kurz played less than the combined minutes of Harrington, DeMarcus & Jermareo. or 9 games worth of minutes for the entire season. in fact, Adonal Foyle played more than this (475 minutes) in ‘06-’07.
if Kurz can continue to improve his jump shooting (he shot 39.5% from 3 last season), he’ll probably carve a niche for himself in the NBA as a big man shooter. not bad for an undrafted scrub.

We had the talent but it didn’t go great. It was similar to the year the Lakers had Kobe, Shaq, Gary Payton, Karl Malone, we just didn’t come together. We had guys transfer in and we thought that would be it but the chemistry just never set right. Anthony was the unquestioned best player on the team and he could get the most done and everything was built around him. In the beginning, everything was fine but as time went by jealousy and agendas set in and took over. It cost us a playoff berth, we had the talent to get it down but simply didn’t. I learned the most as a coach that year in regards to players, chemistry, mentality and everything which in the end helped me become a better coach.
wth, what a dumb comparison. that Laker team still made it to the NBA finals. his team had a losing record and missed the high school playoffs.

still didn’t have to use the ridiculously dumb comparison to claim that the team didn’t have chemistry. chemistry had less to do with it than the fact that Malone & GP were over the hill and Shaq was on the decline enough for Ben Wallace to guard him 1 on 1 w/o double team help. if they had no chemistry, they’d have never gotten through a tough western conference with 2 has been players in their starting line up.
