Two Possible Trades....

It's been a while since anyone has posted any of these. As pointless as it is, they are fun to read and do our best fantasy gm....

Star-divide

Trade one:

Warriors get:Tayshaun Prince, Detroit #1 (15th pick) and one of detroit's second round picks (#36, 39 or 44)

Pistons get: Maggette, Belinelli, Warriors #1

Why would we do it?: Monta will never be a prototypical pg.  If he's going to succeed we need to surround him with a few good passers.  Tayshaun would give us another good perimeter passer to help monta adapt at pg.  He is also a quality defender, defintely better than everyone on our roster except jack, (whether he is better than jack is debateable).  More so, like we saw with houston with battier and artest, having 2 quality swing defenders keeps them both fresh.  In the west we will see Kobe, BRoy, Manu and many others.  Having these 2 on perimeter would massive upgrade our D.

Why would Detroit do it?:  They've been known to be 1) wanting to rebuild. 2) Shopping Tayshaun. 3) Liking Corey (probably not his contract) 4. Liking Earl Clark ALOT (who wont be available at #15) and 5) wanting to get younger.  This is all really predicated on if someone they want is available at 7.

Trade Two:

Warriors get: Charlie Villanueva, Luke Ridnour

Milwaukee get: Jamal Crawford, Brandan Wright

Why would we do it?: Lets be honest, Villanueva is everything Nellie wants in a power forward and a better version of Al Harrington (aka slightly more commitment to rebounding).  Still not a great rebounder or defender, but he has improved and is still young.  Ridnour has an oversized contract for a backup PG, however would be off the books next summer

Why would Milwaukee do it?:  Without Redd for atleast half of next year, they desperately lack scoring.  Crawford has a shot term contract for there liking (2 years, if they didnt want him long term, he'll be expiring next year when Redd is back).  Or if when Redd comes back they now have a super 6th man combo guard. BWright is a young, talented, efficient power forward.  They don't want to pay Willanueva from what i read (would rather pay sessions) and being able to get rid of ridnour would be a plus.

With that number 15 pick, we can take either Jrue Holiday or Terrance Williams, both of whom would be perfect fits for warriors and at 15, more reasonable.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Dont know bout the first one but i'd be willing on the second one

Villenueava is on the to becomming a star not to mention he fits Nellie ball perfect, and ridenour is a true PG with skills (even though Belinelli made him look silly.haha)

charlie v

is still not a better version of TMNT. he’s certainly got the tools to be better than him if he continues to improve, given his length and youth.

i don’t think the bucks hate or even remotely wants to get rid of ridnour. he’s not a stud but there’s not dozens of pg’s better than him out there.

LeBron James? I'm the only Ty Crane.

by misterjennings on Jun 5, 2009 2:50 PM PDT reply actions

BWright>Villanueva for the W’s because he plays better D, scoring is not our issue, that really all Charlie V brings.

by myk on Jun 5, 2009 5:57 PM PDT up reply actions

they r different players...

both r below average rebounders but my thinking is this…. Randolph is the future, he will only be 20…. bwright is farrr from a proven or feasible starter on a team w/ biedrins as its center (he could start next to Dhoward and be fine). Vilanueva is young(25) so he will keep growing, but also proven nba player enough so we could easily pop him in for 25-30 mins a night at minimum.

by tafkasam on Jun 5, 2009 7:12 PM PDT up reply actions

i really like the first one. send maggs contract away, get a decent player who defends and passes better than maggette and at the cost of trading down and marco belinelli, it’s reasonable for us and i can see detroit going for it.

as for the second one, eh. i’d be fine with it because it would send jamal crawford away, but villanueva isn’t any better than wright and ridnour can’t guard anyone at all (not that crawford can, but still). that one strikes me as a lateral move.

Also, at Detroit’s 15th pick, we would still be in line to get a point guard. Someone is bound to slip to that position. I think between Flynn and Lawson, one of them will be available.

flynn has been a high riser

by tafkasam on Jun 5, 2009 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions

second 1 is predicated on

not wanting to lose villanueva for nothing AND not liking ridnours contract for a backup PG…. they want sessions as there point, therefor no1 wants to pay 6.5 mil for a backup. And from our end he’d be a 1 year player as its expiring

by tafkasam on Jun 5, 2009 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions

he’s an expiring? for some reason i thought he had a couple years left on his deal. that changes everything. i’m in.

“I understand the situation Milwaukee is in financially,” Villanueva told Coleman. "They don’t want to go over the cap or what not (actually the luxury tax level). Whatever team decides to make the best offer, I’m going to think about it.

I’m down for either one, if not BOTH of these trades! Come on, Riley, let’s shake things up!

WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...

by JustSomeName on Jun 5, 2009 4:02 PM PDT reply actions

Our lineup afterwards...

PG: Ridnour/Monta/CJ
SG: Monta/Jackson/Morrow
SF: Prince/Jackson/Buike
PF: Villanueva/Randolph
C: Biedrins/Turiaf

And then we can draft Terrence Williams with the #15

We’d get rid of the two horrific contracts in Maggette and Crawford and maybe we can go after another free agent.

by JustSomeName on Jun 5, 2009 4:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Close, almost the right lineup

Jack would so start over Ridnour. You honestly think Nellie would bench Jack to get Ridnour on the court? Yeah, right. I would actually be down for doing both of those though. I don’t like losing Marco, he scored 25 against team USA at age 18 if I’m not mistaken, when he got pt last year he was very impressive, he’s going to be a stud one day. Maybe we could trade Buike instead.

But if we pulled off both of those trades we would suddenly be in serious and undoubted playoff discussion.

by myk on Jun 5, 2009 6:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually thinking about all the resulting lineups posted by others

this would be the best. It is the most balanced. I’d just prefer Marco to Buike, but that’s me.

by myk on Jun 5, 2009 6:06 PM PDT up reply actions

i do too....

and both r interchangeable in trade, i just know nellie prefer’s buike cause he’s more complete today.

by tafkasam on Jun 6, 2009 9:58 AM PDT up reply actions

Ridnour and Villanueva should come off the bench

Monta at pg and Stack Jack at shooting guard AR4 at PF

The Bay is the place to be!!

by Mashed Potatoes on Jun 5, 2009 6:10 PM PDT up reply actions

our lineup would be...

pg: monta, rindour, CJ(?)
SG: Jack, Buike, morrow
SF: Prince, T. williams, buike
PF: Villanueva, Randolph
C: Biedrins, turiaf

or we could draft a PG…. eitherway i look at potential for perimter defense and get excited…. as well we got 2 very good passing swings, to compliment a nonNatural PG which is what he needs…. sure ideally i’d have broy and lebron next to monta…. but realistically tayshaun and jack could easily shoulder load…. We’d be kind of team with 3 guys averaging 5 apg instead of 1 guy getting 9-10

im way down with the first one

i really think prince would be great for our system runnin at the 3, and he is an exellent man to man defender….do like:

ellis
jackson
prince
randolph
andris

draft anyone at the 15….might even be able to see jennings there if there was some kinda raiders situation…if not terrance williams

if we did deal one and then got terrance williams, suddenly our perimeter defense looks, dare i say, pretty good. outside of monta defending the point (which is clearly better than him defending the 2), jack, prince and williams are a pretty solid defensive rotation at the swing spots, with buike who’s a fairly good defender and morrow who doesn’t kill us on the defensive side of the ball (especially thanks to his rebounding), that doesn’t look half bad defensively. it’s not great, but it’s a massive improvement. factor in randolph’s defensive development and rebounding ability, that team WOULD NOT SUCK DEFENSIVELY. just type that. that team WOULD NOT SUCK DEFENSIVELY. it feels good.

by LostHawk on Jun 5, 2009 5:37 PM PDT up reply actions

hmmmm. i actually think i’d pass on the bosh trade if we made the first deal. we’d have so much depth and enough talent in the starting rotation where playoffs would seem very possible without the bosh deal and making that deal doesn’t radically improve the starting lineup. bosh wouldn’t be much better at guarding centers than biedrins, plus he’s a considerably worse rebounder, though he is clearly the better offensive player. throw in wright and i’m not as excited about the front court as i was before the deal. it’s close, but i think i’d turn it down.

also, holiday is almost certainly going to be gone by the 15 spot.

I can’t think of a team that would want CJ enough that he would make up the difference between two guys on their big board. CJ is a decent player, but there are a lot of place to find similar players without having to give up the kid they want to draft.

The Bay is the place to be!!

by Mashed Potatoes on Jun 5, 2009 6:14 PM PDT up reply actions

also

imo….bosh is >>>>>> andris….and with that lineup we wouldnt have any problems with rebounding (prince/ellis/randolph are all strong rebounders for their positions) and bosh is pretty decent at tipping

bosh would add significantly better defense than andris…andris is pretty horrible at D….and with that lineup we would be pretty solid defensively everywhere except the point, but as long as ellis continues his rebounding and harassing the passinglanes we would be an above avg defensive team and an offensive juggernaut

bosh doesn’t really guard centers that often and in that lineup, he’d need to. he’s a much better offensive player than biedrins, but defensively (considering how important rebounding is to defense), they’re not that far apart when they guard centers. bosh will probably be an improvement on the ball defensively, but he’s not usually the guy to man up the opposing center for a reason, you can beat him up with big, strong guys. that’s true of andris too, but biedrins is a much better rebounder, which helps his cause a lot. i make a bosh for andris deal straight up, bosh is a better player, but when you throw in wright and remember that bosh would be playing out of position, i think i’d pass. it’s close, but i’d pass.

by cap'n hack on Jun 5, 2009 7:14 PM PDT up reply actions

add

i’m very opposed to a bosh rental……if we’re talking about sending Monta, Randolph or Biedrins to Toronto for him.

If all potential trade partners are very unsure about their ability to re-sign Bosh I’m not entirely certain the trade price tag won’t come down to the point where Wright/Maggette/Crawford/Belinelli for Bosh/Banks looks fairly decent. Of course that probably wouldn’t be til mid-season when Toronto panics at the idea of losing Bosh for nothing and even then there are a bunch of variables that would have to go our way.

Nice post.

This is about as good as a trade thread can be. I like both trades (especially #1) and I wouldn’t mind the the Warriors making either one. I’m not sure how realistic they are but you can at least make some kind of reasonable argument as to why the other team would make each deal. That’s better than you can say for most trade ideas.

by tafkasam on Jun 6, 2009 11:57 AM PDT up reply actions

Haha

GSoM: where one has to bother explaining why Rasual Butler sucks.

“He’s just not good” pretty much sums it up. I might go so far as to nominate him as the single worst player in the NBA to average more than 30mpg. As you point out, he literally does nothing well: poor shooter, doesn’t get himself to the line, doesn’t rebound, doesn’t pass. He made the Hornets a much worse team every time he stepped on the floor. Along with Chandler’s injuries, he was one of the main reasons the Hornets regressed this year. He makes Corey Maggette look like LeBron James.

Or, you know, “he’s just not good.”

And Azubuike, and Maggette (if trade #2), and Randolph…

by Neon on Jun 6, 2009 12:44 PM PDT up reply actions

YES!

Good trades my friend. Both of them would improve our team in key areas – riding us of a bad defender in maggs or crawford, and adding larger players who improve rebounding or defense. I think we’ll play jack at the 2 and if we had another passer ie. tayshaun or terrence williams in the draft, we’d be fine moving the ball around.
