Is Corey Brewer An Option?

I think Corey Brewer is a good fit. He plays good defense, long length, and great foot speed.  His contract is alot cheaper then AK47. Maybe we can pry him away with crawford and a 2009 2nd rd pick or a future 1st rounder. T-Wolves need a tall PG to play next to Foye. Maybe they will take a gamble on Crawford and see if he pans out with there squad. Then maybe they can grab a C in the draft. So tell me what yall think, I really feel the warriors can turn Brewer into a stud, his numbers have been down a bit because of injury but i think he could contribute alot on this team. Maybe a line up of:

Star-divide

M.Ellis

S.Jackson

C.Brewer

A.Randolph

A.Biedrins

--------------------

B.Jennings

A.Morrow

C.Maggette

B.Wright

R.Turiaf

-----------------------

C.Watson

M.Belinelli

K.Azubuike

R.Kurz

J.Davidson

PS: Yes, the warriors are going to draft B.Jennings at #7....lol

T-Wolves don’t have that kind of cap room do they? Corey Brewer isn’t very good, but he doesn’t come with as bad of a price tag.

they have quite a bit of cap room. why they’d want to waste it on jamal crawford is another question. then of course there’s the question of what corey brewer actually brings to the table for this team. he’s less than a year removed from an acl tear, has never been significantly above average at anything except maybe defense (which is his only marketable skill). of course, i would do that trade in a heartbeat to get a cheap contract for jamal, but outside of that, it doesn’t help us much and it hurts the wolves.

who just came off the books for them?

jason collins, sheldon williams, rodney carney and kevin ollie are coming off the cap if i’m reading this chart correctly (all have cap holds on them, but as someone who isn’t an expert on the cba, i’m not sure how that affects the team).

Yes thats exactly

what we need from him….defense, rebounding, and running the floor. Sort of like a poor mans AK47. A hustle type player

by Yung3asy510 on Jun 9, 2009 12:37 PM PDT up reply actions

but he’s not that good at any of those things. he’s a pretty good defender and rebounder for a small forward. he also has absolutely zero offensive game, so his ability to run the floor doesn’t really help us that much. putting corey brewer on the floor means that you’re playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end with out benefit of having a lockdown defender. corey brewer is not the answer to our problems, unless the only problem we care about is losing crawford’s contract.

to b honest with you

thats the whole thing…….we are really jus trying to git rid of crawfords contract. And hopefully in the process we can git a quality player thats cheap that mite help us

by Yung3asy510 on Jun 9, 2009 12:43 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, shipping out crawford and getting a cheap young player, even one as lackluster as brewer would be a good deal for us. and to be fair, a lot of wolves fans agree with your optimistic assessment of brewer; i just don’t see it.

There is no reason to "ship out" Crawford

If he doesn’t opt out you sit him at the end of the bench and wait one year to trade his highly valuable expiring contract, which will be the most attractive trade piece we can offer.

i’ve advocated giving him the starbury treatment in the past; i just don’t think that we’re likely to do that and as long as he’s on the floor, he hurts the team. obviously, you try to get the best deal possible, but i don’t expect to get anything much better than a young question mark and longer contracts with mediocre players attached. he’ll be more valuable next year than this year, but how much more?

Damn,we're really deep with that team.

Brewer doesn’t really improve this team. If you want a project that could turn into a solid NBA role player someday, then sure…why not take a flyer if the price is right. No telling if Minnesota wants to sell low or give up on Brewer. Right now Brewer would be last on the depth chart for swing players (maybe even behind our forthcoming rookie). Like I said in another post, I can see Brewer being a serviceable NBA rotation player if he can become an above average NBA defender. A versatile defender to add to that, who could guard the pg-sf positions. But on offense I would like to see him run the floor and spot up for corner 3’s and knock them down. If he can do that, then I’d say yea, lets go get him as his window for production lines up pretty well with our core young players. But it’s not a certainty that he’ll even be a below-average NBA player. He could bust out. I don’t know what I’d trade for him, since I don’t think Minny would take a future 2nd round pick and we can trade our 1st rounders until we give a 1st up for the MWill trade.

brewer

was a boss in college and was a pretty good offensive player in college to. I think the range of the NBA 3 pointer has really caused him to struggle offensively, I think with time he can become a starter. I loved him in college but he has been a ghost in the NBA partly due to injury….. but i’m pullin the trigger all day on this trade only if the future pick is 2nd round not 1st (marcus williams…ugh)

If it helps the D

I’m down! Corey Brewer could help this team. He is no worse the Matt Barnes/Pietrus combo. Hopefully he has fully recovered.

Brewer plays very solid defense and if we could get crawford for him that would be a steal

by bushido on Jun 10, 2009 12:19 PM PDT reply actions

Im not a Warriors fan

But i dont think Brewer would start over Maggette and i dont think Bookie would be happy playing on the 3rd unit

you are right about all of those things.
