Why arent we looking at Bruce Bowen?

On a team filled with scorers, why havent we heard about the Warriors looking at defensive minded players like Bowen?  (Please do not insert Nellie jokes here)

He is scheduled to make only $4MIL this year and may get a $2MIL buyout from Milwaukee by August.  That means he will probably be available to be had at a discount.

His shooting has deteriorated a bit and his defense is not as good as it was, but on a team like ours, a slightly old defensive specialist seems like a great match.  We could potentially say goodbye to those last minute OT losses and BS lucky shots by opponents at the end of games.

I know we are guard heavy and I would hate to see Morrow lose playing time he deserves this year (assuming Belinelli will be traded somehow - otherwise him too), but there are times where a defensive line-up would be awesome:

Bowen

Jackson

Azibuike

Turiaf

Biedrins

Bowen's...

…about as useful as a plaster skeleton at this point in his career. I’d pass on him.

he’s a missing piece to a team on the cusp. we barely qualify as a team these days

On 5/7, the best part of waking is up LOLDGERS in my cup.

He alone would raise our team’s average age by 3 years

since this amare trade is most likely in the trash, have the dubs considered David Lee yet?! i think he’d be a great fit for our team…

by Young Moolah on Jul 1, 2009 1:48 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Why?

We already have two young power forwards, and we have two centers. Plus we don’t have that sort of cap space either.

If Bowen gets released (likely) I suspect he’ll return to the Spurs. They’re familiar with him, know how to use him and he’s made a name for himself there.

by jae on Jul 1, 2009 2:15 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

he's already traded

to the bucks june 23rd 09 i believe i read it in his history by nba.com

by thekiddisfresh on Jul 1, 2009 2:26 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

yes but

he’ll probably get released so they only have to pay him half the money. then the spurs will resign him.

by bebopmonkey on Jul 1, 2009 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bowen’s a stiff, and Nellie wouldn’t ever put 2 non-shooters on the floor at once. that means unless we had a center with a 3 point shot he wouldn’t play.

by bebopmonkey on Jul 1, 2009 2:34 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Well, Bowen can

shoot
(at least the corner 3), but other than that he’s basically an offensive non-entity.

Perfect. If you keep it going long enough it will get old, and then just get funnier than it ever was. Jokes are weird like that.

I was going to put all the reasons why the Warriors shouldnt sign this guy but

its easier to look at it from bruce’s point of view. why on gods green earth would he want to come to golden state? he wants to win titles…not the lottery

by CSalMJS on Jul 2, 2009 2:10 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

He's already won titles

I guess you can never win enough, but the Warriors are going to have to go after some veterans eventually to build the right chemistry and culture.
Bowan is a step slower on D, but that is still 2 steps better than Monta or CJ who are clueless, and all we need is his corner shot. Everyone else can score like crazy.

I think you guys are getting a little too picky. At the potential price, this would be a good signing.

by warriorsvictim on Jul 2, 2009 9:58 AM PDT reply actions   1 recs

At the potential price, why would he come here vs returning to San Antonio?

I’m curious if the “veterans to build the right chemistry and culture” is anything that’s ever been put to the test. Is it really necessary to have guys who have “been there before” to become a winner? An answer more complex than “obviously” with some real data and analysis would be nice here. (And FWIW we do have a guy who has “been there before” in Jax.)

by jae on Jul 2, 2009 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not interested in building the data on this one

But if you look at the championship winners over the last 2 decades, there were no teams with our type of youth in there.

You need some veterans who know how to play in pressure cooker situations and can lead the team. Monta, Biedrins, and Randolph all lack leadership qualities.

Jackson and Nellie are not quite enough.

Understand the thought he may go back to San Antonio, but it isnt a given. They may not want him back at this point.

by warriorsvictim on Jul 2, 2009 3:17 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

bowens not returning to spurs, he ll sign elsewhere

he hates popovich now.

Cause Havoc. Bring Nash in and 120 point games will be very expected

by montadaboss on Jul 2, 2009 3:27 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

no

we have no use for him at all. like someone may have said he is missin piece of championship teams we dont need someone that old either not like he is makin us that much better

by gsw88 on Jul 2, 2009 7:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

He might be good at the right price

He could at least give Nellie a guy to play in stop situations, late in the game. But I don’t see him playing too many minutes so only if he is cheap.
