In defense of the W's Front Office
Listen, sounds like the great thing to do these days is to trash the warriors front office and call them inept. All I have seen them do in the past month is:
#1: Ditch a bad contract in J Craw, who as a great guy was a bad fit for the team and didnt need to be here. To add, everyone KNEW he wanted to move, and we still got a young (totally unproven with big reality he wont do very much) in Law that we are only asking to be a THIRD STRING GUY
#2: Draft the best player available that has the make up to be a top player in the league according to many out there in Curry.
#3: To privately state that they are not going to trade a stud in Curry along with a topped out Bendris and a poo poo platter of unproven talent in Belli and Wright to get a guy who we are not 100% would resign after the year. Wait.. and injury proven guy who would become the highest paid player on our team is balking at the chance to come to the Bay after serious career threatening surgery less than 2 years ago? He would play on a team with equal to lower talent than on the Suns, and is a premadonna that can score but has no history of defense or rebounding, two areas that we have lacked in the past. Lets be honest.. he's a great catch and an asset UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES, but not to sell the farm over.
I am going to have to go against the popular masses ( see: Tim K most of the time, as he DID applaud us for ACTUALLY MAKING SOME KIND OF MOVE which I agree with, and other posters on this site who are ready to pack it in for the team) and say that Riley has impressed me so far without actually doing much with the conversations and rumors he has at least sparked and the dedication to some kind of plan that we only try to guess at and subsquently tear apart over here at GSOM thinking that we could do a better job.
How about we all put the "We Believe" videos away, right under our J-Rich and B Davis jerseys and calm down a bit. Lets see what the finished product looks like in the next few months, stop speculating and starting "Movement" emails and chains on here that only serve to piss us all off when nothing happens, and wait for some ACTUAL news to happen on June 8th, or even October when the off-season is actually over. Trust me... relaxing a bit is MUCH easier than griping on a daily basis about how much DUBS BRAZZZZ sucks and Nelson/Cohan/whatever are losers.
Lets add a bit more optimism and positivity around here and stop making rash judgments. And... I'm spent
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

I wouldn’t go as far as to say Riley has impressed me, but i would say that he hasn’t made any horrible decisions thus far. We’ll see how the rest of the offseason pans out

I haven't heard any complaints about the front office THIS summer
But summer isn’t over yet. Anyway…
1. The Crawford deal surprised me. I thought they’d have a hard time moving him. I’ll give them credit for that.
2. The Warriors got lucky. They weren’t expecting Curry to drop to #7. I guess you could give them a little credit for making the pick anyway.
3. I don’t know enough about Curry to comment on whether keeping him is good or not. Everyone else seems to think keeping him was the right move.
It’s a bit early to start praising Riley, but I will say that there hasn’t been any reason to complain so far. You could say that’s a form of praise.

For real, I don't think I've read a negative comment about the FO in a while...

Thats cause Riley has taken the spotlight as of lately, not Rowell.

They’ve played it correctly so far, but mere competency should not be the minimum requirement for praise.

REC
The jury’s still out, and they look competent so far. But they haven’t had to do much of anything spectacular:
Trade a guy who we tried to force out and wouldn’t have got much playing time anyways for two expiring contracts
Not give up way too much for a star who wouldn’t necessarily have signed an extension.
Those aren’t exactly mindblowingly smart moves. At least they haven’t done something dumb, so that’s a plus, but let’s wait to see what actually happens before lauding them.
You have been DFiBrillated.

Yeah, but there is a fine line between,
not doing anything stupid and being mediocre because they are too afraid to pull the trigger on something and have it blow up in their face. All I ask is Riley due his due dillegence and explore every trade option and NOT blow the MLE on some guy just to excite the fans(Jason Kidd or Allen Iverson) when it could be used to get another young asset.

good post but...
everything that the warriors front office did in the last few days were things that had to happen or were obviously going to happen so i dont applaud them because anyone in there shoes would have done the same thing…now maybe i would applaud them for doing something expected for once but that doesn’t make the team look any better..I HELLA DIGG THAT LAST PARAGRAPH EVERYONE IS STUCK ON WHAT WE USED TO HAVE BDIDDY IS WASHED UP AND TRYING TO GET HIM BACK IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE ANYTHING..PPL PLEASE STOP POSTING THINGS LIKE “WE CAN GET BARRON BACK” OR “BARRON IS INTERESTED IN COMING BACK” CAUSE I SURELY DONT WANT HIM BACK…

Any post starting with "In defense of the Warriors FO"
is going to get chewed up and eaten alive.
They’ve put themselves in the current situation. Until we put up a perennial playoff team…this FO gets no credit from me. Cohan, Rowell, and the rest of the bunch can #(*$&#$(*$&@#$ themselves.
by phiLthyphiL on Jul 1, 2009 3:07 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Please Mr. RIdder or Fitz no more posting...
j/k…lol..The jury is still out but like a couple of people have already stated they haven’t really done anything too dumb so not doing something dumb is a good thing. Like DFB said though, we still have to wait and see and if the prior record of the FO is any indication I just hope that nothing too stupid is on the horizon… Like a max MLE for a player that won’t help the roster or just wasting cap space for players that are on the decline. The FO has made the DUBS a place that players don’t want to come unless they are overpaid or have no other options, so the hate that they get is warranted.
Not sure if expecting impending doom is a good thing, but that is all I have to go off of right now. Just have to wait and see what happens in the next couple of months before I judge the “new direction” of the FO.

In defense of the W's Front Office
How can you defend 34 years without a finals appearance?
How can you defend not understanding how to win games?
How can you defend getting rid of Crawford then going out and drafting another tweener guard that has not scored 50 points three times yet and thinking it’s an improvement?
How can you defend stocking a team with rookies for a coach that doesn’t like them?
How can you defend the apathy?
Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?
I noticed there's so many of them
and there's really not that many of us.

How can you defend 34 years without a finals appearance?
Lets stick to the Cohan regime, a much better blast would have been 1 playoff trip in 14 years.
How can you defend not understanding how to win games?
Nellie knows how to win games, the problem is getting the talent. Now who is to blame for that over the last 15 years is debatable and many people are too blame, espicially Chris Cohan for not being able to get or keep 1 guy long enough to get this team average.
How can you defend getting rid of Crawford then going out and drafting another tweener guard that has not scored 50 points three times yet and thinking it’s an improvement?
Dumping Crawford for expiring contracts was a great move. I could care less how many different jersey’s he has worn and scored 50. At times I wondered last year would the W’s be better playing 4 on 5 than having this guy in. Curry is no lock, but I bet he will be a better player than Crawford.
How can you defend stocking a team with rookies for a coach that doesn’t like them?
They have 0 rookies signed at the moment, 1 assuming that they won’t trade Curry and will sign him before training camp.
I hate to defend the Warriors front office, but don’t blame Riley for the shortcoming of the guys before him. Blame Rowell and Cohan for hiring dud after dud after dud. I have little faith in this Nelson(and his puppet Riley) regime, but hopefully Nellie has one last Dirk for Tractor Traylor trade left in him and another playoff run.

Spot on Skep..
It will remain to be seen by the end of the Summer how well the FO is doing… However a definition of what “Riley” is doing (Read what Nellie probably wants) and what RR is doing… The summer is long….. lets see….

…in the past ten days. So that’s ten days right there!
Now, whoever has been wrecking this franchise for the fifteen years before that – I’d like to have a word with them. What’s that you say?

amare movement
lets go get amare and make the playoffs
Curry roy
monta stays.
we have a good group… wit nellie balls..
PG CURRY for 3
SG ELLIS to the rim!
SF JACKSON for 3

stoudamire's not coming
by AJC3317 on Jul 1, 2009 4:05 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I hate this crap. When you’re a player in Stoudemire’s position, you can’t say that you want to end up with
A) a team that can win the championship in the next 1-3 years
B) a team that has an established center so you can play power forward
C) presumably, a team enough cap space to offer you a maximum contract.
There’s no team that has all of those bases covered. So what’s going to happen? He’ll play out this year, look at the market next year, totally ignore points A and B and sign with some bottom-feeder that mails him an armored car full of hundred dollar bills.

The only caveat is...
This is very, very similar to what KG was saying before Ray Allen came aboard. If we can move Monta and change for a star, we can bring in Amare. If we’re doing the Amare thing, let’s really do it. None of this half -a$$ed BS, go all out.
You have been DFiBrillated.

If we can move Monta and change for a star
The problem is we are going to have to sell Monta at the cheap at the moment, by I would still go see If we can flip Ellis to the Grizzlies for Rudy Gay and Greg Buckner. Bring in Jason Kidd with the MLE and go pull of the Amare trade, whatever it might be. I’m with you, either go all out or play for the future.

Amen, Skeptic
1) The only reason we had Crawford’s bad contract to get rid of was the fact that Nellie (who, yes, is the FO now and was then as Mullin was made totally inept by Rowell’s dealings behind the scene) ran Harrington out of town. Harrington, who had a better contract and was a better fit for the team.
If you are dating a nice girl, dump her for some crazy chick, and then dump the crazy chick, are you considered a suave romantic?
2) Drafting Curry was a no brainer. I’m not going to try to come up with a silly metaphor for that one. I suppose they deserve some credit for not picking based on need but Jordan Hill (the obvious alternative) isn’t really a Nellieball player anyways.
3) They ALMOST, ALMOST traded for
“a guy who we are not 100% would resign after the year. Wait.. and injury proven guy who would become the highest paid player on our team is balking at the chance to come to the Bay after serious career threatening surgery less than 2 years ago? He would play on a team with equal to lower talent than on the Suns, and is a premadonna that can score but has no history of defense or rebounding, two areas that we have lacked in the past. Another silly metaphor: If you go to the car dealership and almost buy a total lemon with a nice paint job that would require you to put a 2nd mortgage on your house to afford it and then at the last second you back out because the dealer wants to charge you for “undercoating”, do you deserve credit for it? Did anyone follow that?
