Jonathan Sanchez Pitches a NO HITTER!

Give it up to our fellow bay area team, the SF Giants and Jonathan Sanchez pitching his first career NO HITTER after being pulled from the starting pitchers line-up.  It was certainly a game to watch, and somethign experience as a bay area sports fan.  He deserves to be on "probation" in my opinion. With a season that started off rocky, and now a comeback performance proving he truly wants to be there.  Is it a fluke?  Can he secure his position back in the starting line-up at least while the Big Unit is gone?!  Only time shall tell.   Comments??!

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

That was such a great game; I almost had a heart attack! I think he’ll probably keep that spot while Johnson is out

the starting pitchers line-up

Is that what they call the rotation out in Cali? ;-)

Seriously, awesome for him. I’ve seen very little of him living outside the Bay the last 5 years, but looking at his periphs — K rate especially — it doesn’t seem like a total fluke to me. If he can cut down on the BBs, he can be a damn good pitcher. Easier said than done, but young pitchers with great-but-wild stuff do occasionally learn to control it as they enter their mid-20s (Randy Johnson and Jon Lester, both hard-throwing LHP, pop to mind…) Actually, the 11K-0BB line is just as impressive as the no-hitter. He was a Uribe error away from a perfecto!

Hm, Giants looking pretty promising these days, huh?…

There will be no extra point!

Do they still play baseball at San Francisco? I saw Willie play his last games at New York so I assumed the giants were defunct?

Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?

and there's really not that many of us.

No hitter? So what. Below-average offensive efficiency, poor rebounder, turns the ball over too much.

Sandoval=Randolph-incredibly exciting player to watch who ended the previous season with a promising flurry

Rowand=Jackson-productive veteran signed to a contract that was too big and too long, but still a productive and hard-nosed player.

Maggette=Zito-terrible contract but you’ll probably get something close to average starter production from him which isn’t totally worthless.

Monta=Cain-Incredible talent that we’ve been watching since he was very young, still hadn’t quite put it all together and wasn’t getting a whole lot of support until this year

Biedrins=Molina-Fairly one dimensional offensively and a very flawed players, but still pretty important to the team’s success.

Sanchez=Wright-Has as good of “stuff” as just about anyone on the roster, just can’t seem to harness it or stay in the game.

Buike/Morrow=Schierholtz/Bowker-guys who were viewed as relatviely low ceiling guys when they were acquired or brought up but their long ball ability is incredibly important to the future success of the offense

Turiaf=Winn-A “classy vet” and good teammate who isn’t the most talented guy, but probably doesn’t get enough credit for all the good things he does

Belinelli=Lewis-Not a bad player, could contribute a lot of places, but probably doesn’t have much of a future here

Now we just need Curry to become our Lincecum……….

I definitely hope Randolph has the basketball equivalent of the season that Sandoval is having.

Adopted Giant Darren "Speedy" Ford. Said by Andrew Baggarly to be the fastest minor league player and the best defensive outfielder in the Giants Organization. Now playing for your San Jose Giants.

Really…… Wow. Lewis and Bellinelli’s production has been completely different. Lewis started a whole season and didn’t do too much.
Belinelli plays very rarely and whenever he plays does really well. Completely different.

Cause Havoc. Bring Nash in and 120 point games will be very expected

by monta.da.boss on Jul 11, 2009 4:18 PM PDT up reply actions

Are you talking about 2008? Lewis played 133 games and was just about league average.

Guess who on the Warriors could be described as “average”?

(That might be a bit generous to Belinelli, actually)

You'd be right if you weren't so wrong

Lewis is an outstanding defensive player (He was the third best LF in baseball last year), and an above average offensive player. And he has shown this with consistent playing time. His fatal flaw is he makes very poor decisions (the occasional dropping of a routine flyball, striking out too much) and it leads to the perception that he’s not very good. A more apt comparison would probably be Wright, who is an extremely efficient scorer, but can’t seem to find playing time with Nelson. However, I agree with the sam23 that Sanchez-Wright is an even better comparison. Given that Wright was compared to Sanchez, Lewis-Belinelli is a pretty good second option.

If we go back a few years, we can say Zito = Dunleavy. That’s more accurate, I think.

DEFINITELY NOT A FLUKE...

It takes more than luck in baseball to get a no-hitter than getting a 300 in bowling! There are way more intangibles in baseball…defense, umpire calls, opposing batters, etc.

Way to go kid! Hopefully his stock goes up and we can trade him for a bat! But for now I’m glad he’s a Giant!

his throwing style looks incredibly violent, but if you break it down its probably the smoothest and easiest on the body throwing styles in the entire league. Unlike most pitchers he isn’t putting too much strain on any one part of the body

If you heard Chris Lincecum (Timmy’s father) talk about the mechanics, you’ll understand that Timmy’s motion is very fluid. The power comes from his legs and transfer through to his arms.

Not trying to be a d*ck

but how come this was allowed as a fanpost when not only a few days ago, my post concerning the much needed help for Pablo Sandoval in the all star voting was relegated to the fanshots section. Not only that, but I received a warning saying that I should not make posts that have not been researched or have no substance. Wow, thanks for the proverbial up yours. Thanks alot GSOM, you guys are a class act.

by turbulence24 on Jul 12, 2009 12:18 AM PDT reply actions

Thus far Lewis is actually a much better baseball player than Belinelli is a basketball player, Belinelli is quite a bit younger and has more room to grow, but your current assessment of both players is way off.
