"Beef " players available
Larry Riley has said numerous time that he wants "beef" and we need it bad. The only player we have who can bang inside is Rony Turiaf and he can't do it all on his own. We need someone who can rebound, run the floor and hit from the outside. The problem is that who will take a MLE? And would they want to come here?
Drew Gooden: He is a difference maker where ever he goes. Rather it be San Antonio, Chicago or Cleveland. He is expierenced and is a terrific rebounder who scores well. He has recently said that he would like to come here but for how much? Out of all the options he could demand the most.He has a good mid range jumper and can also score on the block. Defensively he is just average and loses his man alot. He also has very good quickness.

Leon Powe: He showed in Boston that he belongs in the NBA and deserves a good amount of minutes. His per thirty minutes played stats are almost the exact same as Gooden's. But he has had some issues with his knees with multiple surgeries. He had a devastating injury last year and it's unknown how long he could be out for. Why would he want to come here? He is from the bay area! He went to Cal and is familiar with the area.He is also still very young. He gets alot of his offense to the basket but can hit up to 15 feet. Brilliant offensive rebounder but on defense he does not have good lateral movement and is not the longest guy out there. He also fouls a little to much.

Brandan Wright: Your probably thinking why is here? Well there are some cases where you can argue he should stay. First is the infamous "potetntial" word. He can run like a deer, is a good shot blocker, and is quick points off the bench. He doesn't need alot of minutes to make an impact. But he is not a good rebounder and gets pushed around alot in the post. If he leaves the Jason Richardson trade would be for nothing. Though he was injured alot last year with a bad shoulder he has had some great games where he lived up to the hype for a game. Like the game early in the season against Denver and the game against Philly when he scored 25 points. Did I memtion his expiring contract?

I can't believe anyone still thinks this...
It was not for Brandan Wright mainly. It was to get rid of Jason Richardson’s albatross of a deal to get the cap room to comfortably sign Ellis and AB to good extensions and avoid the tax.
BW was a part of the trade, but the long-term cap relief that J-Rich’s contract was eating was too much for an aging shooting guard w/ bad knees.

at 14 mil a year?
He was on a decline, jack was better (definitey for 7 mil) and monta needed more minutes. JRich would be supremely unmoveable now…..
We gave Maggs bad money
Yes it was good to get Monta his time and we were better with out him but I think we could have gotten something better for him
The problem with Leon Powe is that he won’t be ready until probably around March. Drew Gooden is a better rebounder than both Turiaf and Wright. I am not saying that Gooden should take away Wright’s playing time, but Gooden would be a great addition to fill out our 12-man team.

+1
Plus it keeps our talent base around and does not gut the team. We also need to be patient. Acie and Speedy can be traded in a few weeks and their expiring salaries are very very attractive.

We have been patient for to long
We just need a few tweeks here and there and I think we could be better then we were in those two great years.
This is just the two bay area guys and BWright
In all seriousness I like Gooden and I have a feeling the Warriors are looking to trade for someone better with the idea that they’ll settle for Gooden if nothing can get done. He’s definitely beef even if he’s known to under perform on the glass and defense, but that’s just because he had/has so much potential but is just average.

They apparently want a star power forward who can also play center
Hense Amare and Boozer but we all know it won’t get done
if we cant get Amare or Boozer in a trade...
then we should sign Drew Gooden.
Drew Gooden...
… old, inconsistent and has a bad case of “playmaker,” meaning, in our system, he won’t pass, play D and rebound.
He’s probably on top of Nellie’s list.
for 3-4 mil (which has been suggested price)
he is a good player. Point being you aren’t getting Tim Duncan for that money
agreed
his shot blocking numbers are TERRIBLE. i like that he’s a local guy< but he reminds me too much of a harrington with less range…
introducing the teensey-tiniest, itty-bitty backcourt in nba history: monta ellis and brandon jennings! 80-win season here we come!

Similar? How? Harrington was a tweener who rebounded like a 3 even if he’s been inserted in the lineup as a 4. Gooden has been an average to above average rebounder as a 4/5. It’s about 3 rebounds/36 which is gigantic, the difference between being an asset on the glass and being totally ineffective. Neither are particularly efficient on offense. Harrington has an edge there since his 3pt shot developed, but it’s not enough to compensate for his inadequate rebounding.
and had 9 fouls in a summer league game and is still 19
My point is, he isnt Garnett yet. Let the kid grow into it slowly, and let him EARN his time…
Gooden would be great soley cause he wouldnt demand a large contract and unlike powe he can play the 4 and 5. If BWright and Randolph prove more ready that I think, hey minor loss… but how any games did we come in with turiaf, randolph and kurz as our only legitimate front court options?
Still 19...
Though this Wednesday (July 15) he’ll no longer be a teenager, finally. What are we doing to celebrate?
There will be no extra point!

Nelson cut this guy on his 1st day as the Mavericks GM. reason he gave:
“I read where Miller said he doesn’t care anymore and I don’t want people like that around,” Nelson said.

How banged up is gooden?
For the amount he’s projected to go for (3-5 million) I think he’d be a steal. He has experience but isn’t old. He tends to shoot too many jumpers for me, but he has more of a post game than any of our current big’s. He can rebound better than everyone sans Biedrins and Randolph. He makes his free throws. He is athletic and can play uptempo style (or atleast he used to be able to).
It seems suspicious to me that a career 12 ppg, 8 rpg big who is only 27 can’t even get an MLE. How bad are his injuries?
