Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

I know I'm kind of late on this whole Rasheed going to the Celtics
but are the Celtics really the best team with him? The Eastern conference really got stronger with Shaq going to the Cavs, Vince Carter, Brandon Bass, and maybe CJ going to the Magic, and this. I would say the Orlando Magic are probably the best team or tied With the Lakers

Is Matt right?

They're all unpredictable right now...

just because you add good players doesn’t mean your team is automatically better. It’s all about chemistry.

Come on now

Celtics were the best team last year and they win the championship again if they had Garnett. Now that they have added Sheed to that mix they have to be the front runners in my book. With Lakers(no odom yet) coming up second with Orlando and Spurs after them.

You can’t say for sure that the Celtics would have won the championship if Garnett had been playing

by WeStillBelieve on Jul 17, 2009 11:44 PM PDT up reply actions

not for sure but...

if they almost beat the magic without kg and magic have a very competitive series with lakers(should have won 3 out of first 4 but jameer nelson and courtney lee stopped that).
Add in Rondo’s postseason play…its pretty much assured they would have won. you can’t be certain but they were for sure better than lakers with kg.

Cause Havoc. Bring Nash in and 120 point games will be very expected

You can't say they were for sure better than the Lakers with KG

The Lakers beat the Celtics twice during the season with KG, and the Lakers were without Bynum in the game in Boston. And Big Baby played huge in that Magic series, for all we know the series could have ended earlier if Garnett played. The Celtics were not very good last season and would not have gotten past the Cavs, with or without Garnett. They matched up terribly with them last season

by WeStillBelieve on Jul 18, 2009 2:32 PM PDT up reply actions

I think you forgot who KG is

The most dominant Power Forward in the league on both sides of the ball. Big Baby doesnt not even come close to filling that void. With Garnett they sweep the Bulls beat the Magic in 6 and Destroy the Cavs and take the Lakers in 6.

i’m a huge kg fan and might have called him the best player in the game a few years back, but to say that he hasn’t shown some age from those days, even when he’s healthy, is crazy. as for “The most dominant Power Forward in the league on both sides of the ball,” he’s certainly not the best offensive power forward in the game. the guy he got swapped for is a better offensive 4 than he is. without much thought, i’d call al jefferson, amare, bosh and dirk better offensive players, and i’m fairly certain that that list is not exhaustive. kg is a great player, but he doesn’t make the celts the sure-fire title winners last year. he makes them contenders, sure, but let’s not go overboard.

hes by far the most impact defensive player in the game

compare their defensive stats with and without KG. They go from the best in the league to barely above average. Their offense is actually better without him but his defense is still tops in the league.

The Celtics were not very good last season

Really
They won 62 games for crying out loud!!!!!
You are crazy Sir. Crazy.

So?

The Lakers won 65 and the Cavs won 66. And both teams were better than the Celtics with a healthy Garnett

i have a hard time talking to you

And the Cavs werent as good as their win total suggested. You would know that by watching the playoffs

Like a lot of people, Steinmetz is probably underestimating the importance of age.

A front six of KG, Sheed, KPerkins, Pierce, Allen, and Rondo, all in their primes, would probably go 76-6 and sweep their way to a championship. (If they had bad “chemistry,” maybe they’d only win 70 and drop a couple in the playoffs).

With four of those six past their primes, they probably win 60-62 (assuming decent health) and will have to battle to even make the Finals. I’d give them decent odds (maybe 5-1?), but not overwhelming ones. Health will probably be the overriding factor.

There will be no extra point!

I predict them to go all the way.

Team USA 2012 Olympics
1.Chris Paul/Derrick Rose
2.Dwayne Wade/ Brandon Roy/ Anthony Morrow
3.Lebron James/ Kevin Durant
4.Anthony Randolph /Blake Griffin/ Chris Bosh
5.Dwight Howard/ Greg Oden
Coach: Mike Krzyzewski

The Celtics also added Marquis Daniels, so you can definitely make the case that they’re the best team in the Eastern Conference right now. With a healthy Garnett, they can win it all.

If the Lakers keep Odom, they’re clearly the best in the NBA.

But I do think the Celtics are the most talented team in the East, if they stay healthy. With KG and motivated Rasheed Wallace, they have the best (defensive & offensive) frontcourt in the NBA. No doubt about it. Talent, championship experience, size, intensity.. it will be exciting to watch.

Shaq is going to make the Cavs worse. And that Varejao contract was a blunder of Adonal-Foyle-like proportions. The Magic acquired Carter but lost Turkoglu, who is probably a better fit and better player than Carter now.
