The impossible has happened
Wow, another blog has actually agreed to one of our trades (so far). Over at the Pistons blog we proposed a trade of Wright and Marco for Maxiell and maybe second rounder (look at there comments). This trade helps us find our beef with a very athletic player who rebounds well, he's a good post defender, leaps out of gym, and runs the floor extremely well. We posted a poll on the post ( http://www.motownstringmusic.com/2009/7/24/962075/trade-proposal-from-a-warrior-fan ) and so far it's a deal and they seem to like it. Lets face it, here Marco and Wright are probably just going to sit on the bench. In Detroit they have a good chance of getting solid playing time. This trade helps both teams and the contracts work. I think Maxiell is better then Gooden Because Gooden has had some bad injury problems and does not get up and down the court very well and Maxiell fits right in with our offense, he also has much less turnovers then gooden, better shot selection, better defender, healthier, and won't take any time away from Randolph. When you look at there minutes played Jason Maxiell does not need many minutes to make an impact on a game (18.1 this year and 16.1 for his career). Gooden would take away minutes from Randolph (24.8 this year and 28.1 in his career). I would even throw in Law or Claxton if they wanted to make this work.

So my question to you is would you do this deal and make the impossible happen? Have two blogs come together on a trade proposal. I say this to you Larry Riley: "Get this deal done ASAP!"

meh
Maxiell’s production shows he’s a very, very small upgrade over Wright and he’s 4 years older. I feel like this is selling low on Wright’s upside. I’d much rather see if we can use Belinelli and Wright to dump the contract of Maggette or Jackson.

Sam...
If you had to choose over Magette or Jackson to dump if given the chance…who would you dump?
Personally I think I am leaning to keeping Magette…. just by the way the team is shaping right now, and that he is quite happy to play 6th man. I can just forsee Jackson, much as I like him…starting to get annoyed if his playing time is reduced, which i truly hope it is this year…
What thinkest thout?

It would depend on who we get back. If we can just have amnesty and or have a team with cap space just take them for nothing, I would get rid of Jackson, because I think Maggette will age better and it will be easier to move him next season of the year after if we can’t find a taker earlier.

Jackson dumped before maggs?
Not a chance. Jackson is an emotional leader on the team and understands Nellie system better than anyone else on the team – he’s a great veteran to have around and he is a better defender and passer and rebounder than maggs. As long as he doesn’t eat up too much playing time then Jax is a better keeper by far!

And he’s our best starting 2 who can at least defend a little.
There's a party in my mind.
And I wish that I was there.

wouldnt dump jack over maggette, i think you have to rethink that logic, just really think about what the team would be like last season without jack. and even worse, insert magz in that position. jack fills an absolutely necessary position and role for us, and plays it well. if he changes his attitude a little bit and doesnt sit around and talk to the refs all day, he has the potential of being voted as an allstar next year.

Interesting question Brit, maybe you could put up a fanpost with a poll or just a fanshot on this to gauge how the rest of GSoM feels. I think most would disagree with you and strongly prefer that Maggette be the one who goes, but I could be very wrong.
I can see what you mean about Jackson, and I’d really like to see his minutes come down this year too. I suspect that Jackson’s defensive value and his leadership role are both a little overrated around here, but proving either of those things to be true is difficult so its really just opinion. I do think Jackson is the best perimeter defender (when he wants to be) on a team filled with terrible defensive players and he’s one of the better passers on the team. I like him playing the 2 a whole lot more than I like him at the 3 because I think he’s able to help Monta with the PG and defensive responsibilities a little better and his rebounding plays a lot better there. Like WS110 said, if I had to choose it would kinda depend on what we’re getting back but its not like I’d let a deal get held up over a team requesting one over the other. I know they have very similar contracts in terms of both time and money, but does either one have a salary that increases a little bit more each year? If so, the guy owed more money over the next four years is my choice to go.

Both deals have raises every year (according to Hoopshype), and Jackson’s is slightly smaller overall.
That’s a good enough reason for me to keep the captain over Mr. Maggette, although I think the on-court factors would slightly lean that way, too.

Maxiell is listed at 6’7, 260 lbs. So we’re looking for short fat guys now? The only possible plus I can think of is leverage in defending the post, not to mention all the defensive problems that come from being short and fat. More importantly, dude does not produce. Wright’s just as good or better at scoring, rebounds, steals, blocks, age, contract, etc.
That one time when he blocked Tyson Chandler on an alley oop, though, that was fun.

Maxiell is similar to Leon Powe
Both would be great pickups and give us some muscle down low to counter Biedrins and Randolph. Wright may have good numbers (in limited minutes) but its not about numbers it is about having a well rounded team that can create different matchups. Jason M > Wright FOR a team that has Beans and AR already.

As a Pistons fan
I love this trade, people don’t seem as high on Maxiell as those in Detroit are. I guarantee, the minute J-Maxx joins the Warriors, you’ll love him. The Maxiell-naysayers are going to point to last season, where he took a step backwards after posting up impressive numbers the year before. With Michael Curry in charge of rotations, Maxiell was on a rollercoaster ride of receiving 30 minutes one night, then DNP-CDs for the next 3 games (I’m sure those in GSoM are no strangers to odd rotations). This inconsistency hurt Maxiell’s production and his numbers took a hit. But if you look at the 2007-2008 season, he put up some great numbers for a rotation player.
7.9 pts, 5.3 rebs (2.2 offensive), .6 ast, 1.1 blk, .3 stl, 2.2 PF in 82 games and 21.6 mins
He never missed a game, and posted up good numbers in limited time. His numbers are similar to that of Glen Davis’s, except he blocks and rebounds at a greater rate. He also doesn’t foul much, which is impressive because young guys have a tendency to do so. Maxiell is a great post defender, he absolutely gave Dwight Howard fits 2 years ago in the playoffs, he’s short, but he uses his weight as an advantage. I refer you to this video in which Charles Barkley describes how Maxiell did a great job against Dwight Howard.

Because Wright's upside is too much to give up
I think he can turn into an elite defender and above average offensive threat. The fact is, Wright is 21, Jason is 26. Wright is very close to Maxi in terms of production AND he’s 5 years younger. Throw in Bellinelli and this deal is a no-brainer.

I totally agree with that, but I thought you were saying that made me something of a Max “naysayer.” I think we could find a better Wright deal with either a little more talent coming back or one of our terrible contracts going out.

I agree with that
This deal seems heavily leaned in Detroit’s favor. The only thing I don’t like, is it forces us to get rid of Rip. We are handcuffed in this matter. With Rip and Gordon in the mix it’s already questionable as how the minutes will shape up, add Bellinelli to the rotation, and it’s a chemistry issue just waiting to happen.

But I don't see Detroit taking on a bad contract
That’s one thing Joe D (thankfully) doesn’t make a habit of, taking on or signing bad contracts. The only bad contract he’s signed recently was Nazr Mohammed, and he’s now off our hands and somebody else’s problem.

what upside??
He can’t do nothing right. He always seems lost when he get playing time. He can’t rebounds and AR could play better then him and he only half a season. The Bust wright is a laughing stock for a lottery pick. lol
by warriorfan4life on Jul 29, 2009 8:12 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Assuming Wright is healthy he absolutely will not be just sitting on the bench.
I do not understand how people can say that. I love AR’s potential as much as anyone else here but he isnt God yet with mythical powers. I am amazed how quickly the herd has totally written him off.

Interesting Stats on AR and Wright
lazy summer morn, w nothing else going..decided to compare stats of ppg and rebounds averages for games 20min+- played by these two this season..as it turns out both had 11 games of 20min+ played(counted 19.5 min as well) and the ave min for those 11 games were 25min+…results are
AR- 10.8 ppg average/ 7.2 rebounds
BW-12.5 ppg average/5.8 rebounds
defensive presence not incl. though
