Who gets the minutes?

12 players. 240 minutes a game. Who plays? Who sits? Who gets angry and demands a trade because of lack of playing time? The Warriors currently have 14 players under contract, and that doesn't include C.J. Watson.

The Warriors have depth. They have 11 good role players, but no superstars. So assuming everyone is healthy (big assumption) who plays and who doesn't? Check out my playing time chart and tell me where you would make changes.

The Starters

A. Biedins - 30 mins

A. Randolph - 24 mins

K. Azuibuke- 24 mins

S. Jackson - 34 mins

M. Ellis - 36 mins

The Bench

R. Turiaf - 18 mins

B. Wright - 10 mins

C. Maggette - 30 mins

A. Morrow - 18 mins

S. Curry - 16 mins

The Bench Warmers (no minutues for these guys)

J. Davidson

M. Belinelli

A. Law

S. Claxton

I don’t think Azubuike is getting 24 minutes and I think switching the minutes of Biedrins and Randolph makes a lot more sense.

It seems pretty obvious that Belinelli is the odd man out between that group in the poll.

In a perfect world...

Marco Belinelli and Curry should battle it out for minutes because Marco is the veteran player who has shown glimpses of his worth and seems to be the forgotten Warrior while Curry is a 1st year player who needs to prove he can play in the NBA.

Earn your keep right?

Whoever plays best in practice is what Nellie supposedly believes.

We’ll see.

Yeah

I still like Marco’s upside too, why is everybody ruling him out? I know that Morrow has been tearing it up in summer league, but remember when Marco dropped like 37 a few years back?

Word.

I could see why people could possibly be ruling him out.

He hasn’t proven himself as a true point guard and people assume all he could do is be a shooter, just as people assume all A-Mo will ever be is a catch and shoot player. People don’t recognize a player’s will to be the best and not settle for being average.

Look at J-Rich. He had so much criticizm that “he is just a Dunker” early in his career, will only ever be a Dunker, is too scared to be the go to guy….etc.

I think that’s why Warrior fans had so much respect for him. He knew how to utilize those negatives as a motivation for positive outcomes to his game and knew it was going to take alot of dedication to accomplish his goals for the improvements in his overall skillset.

I see this same desire in Morrow.

I see the same for Rocky in which he has alot to prove to us Dubs fans and the world.

I don’t think people are ruling him out as a serviceable NBA player, but rather saying that there are better options at his position on the Warriors. I still believe he could be a backup SG for another team, just not for us because of our glut at the guard spots.

I think Bellineli should get some minutes though. We saw what he could do, he can handle like a PG, shoot like a SG, and his defense improved so much. I think this guy should get SOME playing time, he’s not a bad player and he’s had more experienced because he became a pro in Italy. Trading Maggette would be a real good option. Sure, Bellineli needs some work, but I think he can be a solid player. Maggette is better, but the W’s should just let the young players grow.

PG – Ellis
SG – Jackson
SF – Azubuike
PF – Randolph
C – Biedrins

Bench:
PG – Curry
SG – Bellineli
SF – Morrow
PF – Wright
C – Ronny Turiaf

biedrins- 28
Randolph-32
jackson-36
Ellis-38
curry-26

Turiaf-24
Morrow-24
Maggs-24
Buike-20
Law-6

Bwright will not play Nelson will go small ball when randolph comes out and put either Maggs or buike at the 4, or he will go big and have AB and turiaf in at the same time for a short amount, wright’s riding pine until he is traded I guarantee it.

Dont look for a lot of minutes from the italian stallion

Have you noticed how much hype and media coverage has been centered on Belli this summer? Um, zero percent.

Morrow and Curry are going to battle for all his minutes unless there is an injury.

And more for Curry and Randolph.

+1

Morrow is a BEAST and if anyone can shoot that well he should be playing at least 25mins/game. Just having a player like that on the floor opens up so many possibilities and pressures the D soooo much. We already know if hes open he’s hitting that 75% of the time.

by bojangles408 on Jul 28, 2009 5:48 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I like Morrow as well as anybody, but..

don’t forget who had the second best 3pt % in the league last year. And Azubuike now does just about everything else better than Morrow. Let Morrow earn his minutes before you start sitting Kelenna.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

by fotd on Jul 28, 2009 9:01 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah Morrow should get about 18 to 25 minutes

and i think unless Curry is just dominant in camp, we should bring him along slowly and use Belinelli at backup PG.

by GSW9 on Jul 28, 2009 6:19 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think between the 1 and 2 spots it should be a 3 way rotation between monta, curry and morrow unless Curry doesn’t do very well. When Morrow will always play the 2 when he is in and when Monta and Curry are in Curry will play the 1. Either Law or Belinelli will get a couple minutes. That leaves about 92 minutes between those 3 and I think the Minutes should show
Monta-38
curry-28
Morrow-26

by FeartheBeard4 on Jul 28, 2009 7:12 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

we'll still see randolph playing the 5 alot i think

Nellies small ball will look like this:
Monta/Curry
Morrow/Belli/Curry
Jackson/Buike
Magette/Buike/Wright
Randolph

This would be a very very entertaining group to watch and I don’t think I’d mind seeing these lineups now that we know they can all score and most likely improved over the summer.

by bojangles408 on Jul 28, 2009 11:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

… rarely were both Andris and Ronny off the floor simultaneously last season, unless one was hurt – even when playing “small” nelson had at least one in, and there’s little reason to think he’s going to sit both of them to play Maggette or KAz at PF (though perhaps he plays Wright and Randolph together some) … too much is made of the small ball lineups, which were usually a reaction to roster deficiencies – whether by injury or lack of depth due to trades etc. rather than some diabolical scheme on the part of he coach

by hardcore on Jul 29, 2009 9:04 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nelson’s infatuation is with shooters, not “small guys,” per se. The fact that he rarely puts two bigs on the floor at once is that he loathes the idea of having more than one guy on the floor without a jumpshot. Hopefully, Randolph can produce from 15 feet consistently enough that we do not need to endure anymore 1-big lineups.

Curry needs to greatly improve from summer league if he hopes to get significant mins this year

It doesn’t matter, Jack and Monta are probably average 38+ mins a game each. Buike will probably get 25+ and Maggs will have near 30. Nellie is not big on playing 11 players a night.
