Ready for "WE BELIEVE" v2.0?

I would like to start this post by first stating how much the world will miss Micheal Jackson. As a dancer I just wanted to mention he was my idol and he will be missed immensely. Anyways, with the recent news regarding Yao out for the season and the turmoil up in Phoenix, I have great reasons to believe our WARRIORS will be playing ball in early May. If this team stays as is, I beleive that we have all the ingredients to be an above 500 team contesting for the 6th spot. We have offense in (Monta,Curry,Jackson,) we have defense in (Beidrens,Wright,Randolph,Turiaf) and we also have depth in (Maggete,Morrow,Curry,Azabuike).

We all know that players get better with time and experience. That means that players like Wright,Randolph and Bellineli will come this season and be better. Last year injuries kept us out of the mix, but amongst all the losing Nellie was quoted as saying the locker room was always upbeat and tight. We all know what chemistry in the locker room equals to: winning ball ala We Beleive v1.0.

I am starting to beleive Nellie sees this aswell. He sees all the movement and players going down, so what is the point in ruining the chemistry? You already have players that know your system, why bring in someone new and have them learn it? The Warriors have been very quite in the Free Agency which leads me to believe that Nellie feels confident he can win with these players.

I see the standings shaping out this way for this upcoming season:

1. Nuggets (they're only going to get better)

2. San Antonio (w/ Jefferson they get fresh blood and revive there staggering offense. Timmy will have a big year)

3. Lakers (Ron will go crazy and bring so much drama that not even Kobe can control him)

4. Portland (young team that will continue to improve)

5.  Utah (come on, what Jerry Sloan team is not competing for a top spot)

6. Warriors (young team w/ a great mixture of veterans and up and coming young stars)

7. New Orleans (w/ CP3 they will make it)

8. Dallas (ex warrior Dampier will have a monster year with 20pg,12rb. 2blk and keep Mavaricks playoff hopes alive)

Please feel free to make your predictions and let us know why. I will personally get my We Believe shirt out to the games this year, how bout you?

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Big Damp

At age 34 is going to triple his ppg and almost double his rpg from his age 33 season? Not bloody likely.

Your other predictions seem reasonable enough, but I think it’s a little early to say. A lot of wheeling and dealing still to be done.

Also: “i before e except after c” doesn’t always hold true, but it holds true for Biedrins and Believe. ;-)

Spurs are way to old now, they'll be 3rd seed best.

Top 3 should be Nuggers,Lakers and Blazers
the rest will be the same…don’t count the Rockets out yet, they might shock us next year.

I believe the Warriors will take the Mavs at the 8th or 7th seed though.

Its time for a change...

are you kidding me?

Spurs are old, but last I checked, that “old” team got second seed and just improved their team a lot. They also got someone to back up Duncan in Blair.

Lakers are #1

if we do make the playoffs the standings would look like this. 1 Lakers. 2 Spurs 3 Nuggets 4 Blazers. 5 Jazz. 6 Hornets. 7 Warriors. 8 Mavericks (if they lose Kidd it will be a toss up between them and the rockets)

Your playoff seeding looks about right

I hope they can get the seventh seed, but their gonna be playing the Spurs. How many games in a row have the Warriors lost in San Antonio? Anybody?

naw Utah isn’t that high up

what makes you say that? they were 1 game behind the Hornets last season and though both teams dealt with injury issues last season, most notably Chandler missed 37 games while Boozer missed 45, CP3 was healthy while (if memory serves) Deron Williams missed the beginning of the season. especially now that everybody looks like they’re returning (even Millsap).

I can actually see the warriors make it into the playoffs

Houston is screwed and they usually take a spot in the western playoffs. Hopefully Monta will make up his last years mishap and bring the team to a successful year.

I love that book and the slogan, but

the one problem is that “we’re back” implies we were somewhere or we were relevant before…… a 2nd round playoff loss? probably not quite on par with dinosaurs ruling the earth.

This summer has a lot more to tell

Rumor has it Utah is shopping Boozer so they can sign millsap, if Boozer is moved Utah will then be in the 6-9 seed range just like us, if he is not they will be the 5. If Jason Kidd stays in the Dallas I see them as a 5,6 .. maybe a 7. If Jason Kidd goes elsewhere then the Mavs will be 7-9 seeds. The if Amare or Nash get traded then the Suns are a 9-11 out of the playoffs but if they both stay they will still be in the fight. As for the Hornets it depends on Tyson Chandler being shipped away this summer or not. If he is they can be a 6-9. If Tyson Chandler stays the Hornets will be 4-6. As for our precious Warriors, if we stay healthy the highest we can get is the 6th seed which will be a very good year, the 7th seed is definitely a good year, and an 8th seed will definitely bring back memories and give us hope and will still be considered a pretty good season. The 9th spot would be dissapointing but if we finished above .500 and missed the playoffs possibly due to injuries which can very easily happen is frustrating but its something to build upon. So our Warriors at best are a 6 seed and at worst a 9 IMO.

Don't trade Stephen Curry Movement

by Sinigang on Jul 4, 2009 6:25 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

i’m curious as to why everyone (so far) thinks we’re going to catapult passed the Mavs, who won 50 games last season, are unlikely to lose Kidd, likely to add Gortat, are likely to have a healthier Josh Howard and have a valuable trade piece, that Cuban is likely to use, in the non-guaranteed Jerry Stackhouse.

the age thing is overplayed, it’s not 2012. everyone said the Spurs, Mavs & Suns were done last offseason and yet they won 54, 50 & 46 games respectively. just because they’re no longer contenders doesn’t mean they don’t have enough left in the tank to win 45-55 games in the regular season.

How soon we forget

that just 3 years ago an 8 seed wiped out a #1 seed. The poster lamenting that we probably get beat by San Antonio if we make the playoffs…well, I hope he was joking.

What I think will happen is 2 teams, GS and OKC, will join the top nine in fighting for playoffs, leaving just Memphis, Minnesota, the Clippers and Sacramento as have-nots. Some very good teams will miss out and be rewarded with high draft picks in a deep draft. It’s going to be an exciting year!

by breaker on Jul 4, 2009 10:09 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

the Lakers and San Antonio are very, very different than the 07 Mavs coached by true “master of panic” Avery Johnson (love the guy, but he’s been consistently outcoached in important games)

We Believe is Dead. Very Dead.

1. Lakers (Phil Jackson goes for the ring for the Big Toe) I think they win 69 games (w/ odom)

2. San Antonio (w/ Jefferson…if they stay healthy…Bowen could return…still a dangerous team)

3. Denver (same core, another year, another crack at it)
4. Portland
5. Utah (Boozer back but healthy from day 1)
6. Dallas (Gortat should help that weak frontcourt…Now that I’m thinking about it…who says he can’t start over Dampier?)
7. New Orleans (this changes if they deal Chandler)
8. Clippers/Suns

All important 9th seed- Warriors, Rockets
Improving- OKC, Memphis
Bottom of the Barrel- Sacramento, Minnesota

Still a lot of player movement to be had. Memphis did well trading Q-Rich for Eddie Winslow. They needed a 4 badly and Z-Bo fits the bill for that young squad. Conley, Mayo, Gay + Thabeet, Sam Young, Darrell Arthur, Gasol. That team could very well improve another 10+ wins.

Interesting to see how/what OKC does to its roster. Adding Harden to the mix serves them well. Do they get Millsap? Lee?

You forget that Clippers are returning a team minus Z-Bo but added Blake Griffin….still have Black Santa, a healthy Kaman, Gordon, Camby, Thornton. It’s a stretch to think they go from 19 wins to playoffs, but with a crew like that..I think it’s likely they’re at least on the very rim of the playoffs.

Phoenix can employ their old-style of offense with Nash & Stoudemire without Shaqtus clogging the lanes. If Hill leaves, it leaves them a bit thin. But they still return Barbosa, J-Rich…may end up swapping Big Ben for Chandler. I still see them in the playoff hunt.

Rockets should have gone forward with the tank movement, but there’s a reason Morey’s a top 5 GM in this league. A core of Brooks, Scola, Ariza, Landry, Battier, isn’t so bad…If I were Morey, I’d aim for a top 5 pick next year and a max free agent and they’re back in business, especially with Injured Reserve’s $23 million contract coming off.

..but even to see us scrape out 29 wins out of relatively bad misfortune last season..it’s a ridiculously big leap to say we get the 6th seed. Very best scenario, we’re in the hunt for the 8th seed yet again. If we do squeak it out, we’re rewarded with a 4 game series with the Lakers. Congratulations. Print out We Sort of Believe T-Shirts. Sell Tickets. Merchandise. TV Time. Cohan and Rowell. Job well done.

Best case scenario: 46-36
Most likely scenario: 37-45

I predict

Warriors record: If team stays healthy and chemistry clicks, 45 wins max and fight for 8th spot.
If injuries happen and bad chemistry(Monta), around 30 wins.

1 Blazers
2 Lakers
3 Nuggets
4 Spurs
5 Mavs
6 Hornets
7 Jazz
8 Rockets/Suns/ or Warriors

wow Kirilenko is overpaid

Utah better not get rid of Boozer if they want to even be in the playoffs. The Warriors will make it as a 6-8 seed if they don’t make any trades or signings. If we play our cards right with our roster and payroll though we’ll make the second round at least. Last season doesn’t count b/c of injuries and related chemistry problems. Houston should miss playoffs w/o Yao and Artest. Suns could get in if they keep Stoudemire and Nash doesn’t fall off like he did last year. And if Boozer gets injured and the Jazz don’t have Millsap they’re toast. The Spurs’ cheating asses will be serious with Jefferson Duncan has 2-3 good years left.

by polar on Jul 4, 2009 8:57 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Kirilenko is overpaid……for 2 more years. Meaning he’d be a worthwhile gamble if we dump one of our worst contracts. Next year he’ll be a valuable big expiring.

Not sure I follow what you're saying...

Lakers, Portland, San Antonio, Denver are all locks to make the playoffs (barring major injuries).

After that:
-Utah has 2 legitimate all stars, some very good role players, all are under 30 and know the system very well.
-New Orleans has 2 bonafide all stars, 1of them is a super star.
-Dallas has a superstar, a future hall of famer who can still play and there 3rd best player (Josh Howard) could be in contention for Warriors best.
(all 3 won between 48 and 56 games last 2 seasons)

IF everything goes well for Golden State:

-Monta becomes the Monta of 07-08 with play making skills he’s never shown
-Brandan Wright plays 82 games and rebounding consistently (two things he hasn’t proven he can do)
-Randolph is able to produce consistently like he did last month of season in an expanded role as the age of 20.

Those 3 things need to happen in addition to all the wings playing similar to how they played last year and then this team is probably a 42-46 game winner. The last 2 years 48 and 49 wins has been 8th seed.

by tafkasam on Jul 6, 2009 12:13 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Those 3 things need to happen in addition to all the wings playing similar to how they played last year and then this team is probably a 42-46 game winner.

It depends on whether they stay healthy and don’t get their legs run off partway thru the season. If they can sustain the rapid pace they should have a shot at the last two playoff spots, assuming the other teams don’t play a perfect season and have some troubles of their own. Nellie wants wins this year so he can take the lead before he totally forgets what basketball is so he’ll be pushing them.

Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?
I noticed there's so many of them
