Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

Possible deal talked about on ESPN Radio

I am streaming ESPN radio as i work at home and this possible deal came up from the Philadelphia 76ers beat writer, whose name escapes me. Will attempt to get more information and pass it along. But these are the parameters Golden State would send Corey Maggette, Speedy Claxton and Brandon Wright to the 76ers for Elton Brand and Willie Green. Trade couldn't be completed until mid September because of contract restrictions of Speedy Claxton

Hmmmm...

Kind of turned off on Brand after that trade busted so bad last season. If health wasn’t a concern I’d be a lot more into it. What’s Brands contract look like?

Elton Brand? No he would kill are are run and gun offense. I rather trade for Thaddeus Young.

This deal would swap two real bad contracts Brand/Maggette and save the Sixers 7+ million next off-season the writer’s name is Kate Fagen. This deal would open up other avenues in terms of trades and make Azabuke expendable

Brand has 4 years at 14.8 miliion per remaining. I don’t really like this deal, because as posted above he is often injured and doesn’t play our style.

by nocal81(Vincent) on Jul 30, 2009 1:18 PM PDT reply actions

4 @ 14.8?

Then hell no. I’d rather have Maggette off the bench and Randolph getting max time at the 4. Last year Brand = 29 games played 13.8 ppg 8.8 rpg. Hell Brandan Wright can do that.

by CarlWinslow on Jul 30, 2009 1:22 PM PDT up reply actions

No way we get Young in this deal. And with Morrow, Jackson, Azabuke, and Randolph do we really need him?

Jessica (Miami)

Tell me that the Warriors aren’t going to trade Brandan Wright for pennies on the dollar now? I hear that Don Nelson wants him gone and that he’s on the trading block…..

I think that may happen, and if it does the Warriors deserve to be made fun of. I think Wright will be an excellent player for his next team, it’s too bad his current one seems to think so little of him.

this trade

sucks. brand killed the sixers offense and him getting hurt was the best thing to happen to them

Throw in Buike instead of BWright.

I’m all for a trade that dumps MaggaBuike.

by Bob on Jul 30, 2009 1:30 PM PDT reply actions

Brand 1.3apg, Maggette 1.8apg

I don’t know if we’re talking about intergalactic distributors here. But I totally get your point, Brand will help an offense move a lot more than Maggette. Regardless IMO Maggette for 10mil > than Brand for 14.8 especialy with an up and coming PF on the roster

by CarlWinslow on Jul 30, 2009 1:39 PM PDT up reply actions

08 stats, Brand avg 2.6 career

Stats don’t tell the full story, Brand is a good passer. Buike and Maggette are not. We need less one dimensional, scoring-only type players.

by Bob on Jul 30, 2009 1:47 PM PDT up reply actions

no doubt

I guess Brands just not the guy for me. If we could dump some scorers for some passing/rebounding/defense, sign me up! Just not for an overpaid, unhealthy and aging Elton Brand…..at 14.8 mil a year.

i like this trade

Thoughts

Cant see how anyone would not like this trade. Lets take a look… shall we?

We trade:
Maggs—An ok back up scorer, but since when have we stressed about having MORE scorers?
Speedy—Redundant if CJ gets resigned
Wright—The pain this deal, but Wright on his best day is Elton Brand.

Get in return:
Brand—Double Double guy without giving up Randolph or Biendris? LOVE IT
Green— A throw in wing player with speed an average scoring touch. I kind of like it actually…

The starting 5 goes:
Ellis/Curry/Law
Jackson/Bukie/Watson?
Randolph/Morrow
Brand/George?
Biendris/Turiaf

Mm, don’t think so. It’s easy to forget how good Brand was — if healthy, he’s a difference-maker. I’d probably rather gamble on Brand than Baron. But he’s another 30-year-old with injury issues… ideally we wouldn’t turn Maggette into another one of those. Plus, anything that threatens to block Randolph’s potential is problematic.

Worth pointing out, whether or not this trade happens: Corey Maggette is not nearly as untradeable as some make him out to be. His contract is too big, and we’ll probably have to take a semi-painful contract back for him if we move him. But the dude ain’t Eddy Curry by a long shot.

Brand was a beast the year the Clips went to the playoffs. I feared playing them at the time because of him.

by Naticus on Jul 30, 2009 2:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Another thought

How about give them CJ instead of Wright on the sign and trade? They need a point over there… he could start for them!

I’d rather start Jrue Holiday than start C.J. Watson.

I really don’t like this trade. Randolph playing small forward isn’t something I’m fond of. He needs to just develop where he is. Plus, the 76ers were better without Brand than with Brand.

Elton Brand has shown nothing in the last two seasons that he’s worth any part of his remaining contract.

by YaHeard on Jul 30, 2009 2:37 PM PDT reply actions

I think this trade is pretty good. It’s not great, but it may pan out. We certainly won’t lose a lot of games due to not having Maggette and Brandon Wright. It may cost us a couple. Brand, however, can defend bigs and can post up. If we get into the playoffs, probably in 2 years, we could really use this guy. REALLY use him. He plays backup C and starts at PF, while Randolph plays backup PF and backup SF. It’s a’right by me. Imagine if we had had Brand while playing the Jazz in the 2nd round with Baron. That would’ve been nice. If Biedrins gets injured again this year, which he may well, Brand will come in very, very handy. I think this helps us, despite the cost.

by Naticus on Jul 30, 2009 2:38 PM PDT reply actions

That would work too, they do have interest in CJ,!

Regarding Beasley. Why exactly do you say he is not getting traded? It is known around the NBA circles that he is available.

Rebounding

i think you guys don’t realize how good of a frontcourt rotation we would have with Biedrins, Randolph, Brand, and Turiaf. Plus if Nellie just tells Brand to focus on rebounding, and outletting the ball to start the fast break it’ll be golden. Riley wanted beef and someone who could play some backup Center, Brand fits the criteria. Plus when Biedrins, or Randolph get injured and we know they will, we have a bonafide rebounding threat who can make up the difference. We wont need to plunge into the D League again to sign some scrub to man the frontcourt (no offense Jamareo). I vote yes on this trade.

by warriorsnut on Jul 30, 2009 3:26 PM PDT reply actions

I agree

In fact I’d rather have this trade than the one for Amare who i was pretty excited about becauase it allows us to keep Beidrins and the rest of our core players. Adding Elton Brand for a bunch of bench guys would be a huge win. I’d like to see Brand come off the bench too but, he still give us low post scoring that we having had……ever? I love the trade. Brand when healthy is alot better than Maggette and Wright when healthy. We don’t have a guy like him on this team currently and Wright and Maghoggie are expendable. There are so many different line ups you could put together with the addition of Brand that it would even confuse Nellie.

by Balance on Jul 30, 2009 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Your not really giving up anything to acquire Brand, so that’s a positive. Claxton, Law and George wouldn’t be in our rotation and Wright, although with upside, isn’t really a lot to give up. I like replacing CJ Watson with Brandon Wright too!

by nocal81(Vincent) on Jul 30, 2009 4:57 PM PDT reply actions

False Rumor

There is no way in the world 76ers would give up Brand for some chumps and Wright. First of all Maggette is over paid player and everyone knows he isn’t worth 10m a year. Second of all, if there is any trade I expect Watson to be in it instead of Law. Third of all, Green is their only current SG who played well for them last year, so giving up on Brand and Green would require some imminent scoring options that neither Speedy or Law can provide. The only way I can see this trade happening is if the Warriors package Watson, Claxton and Wright plus Second rounder for Brand and Green. What you guys think?

why can't we get Warrick now?

Every free agent is going to some team, why can’t we sign Warrick to a two year deal. Also sign Leon Powe who might not be back until January but will really be good for our team. Hell, Powe might be willing to give us hometown discount and we have solid PF and C in our team. Hakim Warrick really fits as a backup to AR and will help this team with athleticism and scoring. It is much better than getting a Brand for $14 m a year.

Brand makes 14 million per season and has a longer contract then Maggette, so the question actually is. Who is more overpaid?

Regarding the Watson, Claxton and Wright for Brand and Green. Two things
1. The salaries wouldn’t match up
2. In order for us to give up Wright in a deal for Brand they must take Maggette

by nocal81(Vincent) on Jul 31, 2009 10:20 AM PDT reply actions

I have always been a fan of Warrick coming to the Warriors, and i think Memphis just released him. He is an athletic 4 that can run up and down the court and also can rebound well. The bi-annual mid level exception would work!
