Am guessing that the W's must be cash strapped, and want to keep Claxton's insurance discounted contract and savings for themselves, otherwise he / it should be very attractive to teams at risk of paying the luxury tax or wanting to shed salaries (i.e. Knicks / Hornets / Jazz / Lakers). But if the W's were to become more aggressive in the trade mart, consider these possible trade scenarios:
- Claxton + Wright + Belinelli to Knicks for David Lee + future pick in a Sign & Trade -- Knicks do this as D'Antoni would actually use both Wright and Belinelli this year in replacing Lee and Robinson, and without jeopardizing their 2010 cap flexibility ... or ...
- Claxton + Wright + Belinelli to Hornets for David West -- long shot, but Hornets may consider this to save on luxury tax ... or ...
- Claxton + Wright + Belinelli to Jazz for Carlos Boozer -- this may be a one year rental of Boozer for the W's, but that's OK as long as the W's keep and develop the rest of their young depth ... the Jazz may consider this to save on luxury tax ... or ...
- Claxton + Acie Law to Lakers for Jordan Farmar + Morrison -- Farmar is the real W's PG target here ... Morrison's the throw-in cap savings for the Lakers relative to Claxton's insurance discount ... Lakers just signed Shannon Brown, so they may be willing to give up Farmar, and take Law as their 3rd backup PG ...
Scenarios above are potentially doable ... why isn't shopping Claxton being talked about?
