We need new uni's/logo!
Ok so ALOT of pictures but here is the point. Our franchise has had great jerseys! But for the last decade we have some of the ugliest uniforms in the league and we haven't been suceeded in these jerseys AT ALL for the most part. Jersey changes set the tone for a franchise to say "we're moving forward, turning a new page and starting a new" THATS what we need as a franchise. Whether Cohn finally sells or we blow up the roster we need to get a NEW FRESH LOOK. Off the top of my head franchises who have gotten new uni's in the past couple years and begun to win or just got rid of really ugly ones:
NBA:Hawks,Pistons,Cavs,Nuggets,Rockets,Memphis, Jazz(still awful),Magic,Sonics(thunder)
NFL:Cadinals,Rams,Falcons,Lions(haha),49ers throwback,Bills
MLB:Rays,Red Sox,D-Backs
There are obviosuly others but we are one of only a few franchises that have stuck with AWFUL 1990s jerseys and this needs to change. Even if we go throwback (which most fans like most anyway) or getting "future" jerseys I want to be able to rep my team with pride without looking stupid in our HORRENDOUS jerseys. Get rid of the Orange, get new logo without Thunder on it (R.I.P) and get some fresh jerseys!
I hope you all agree with me! My vote is to go throwback with the 1971-1989 threads or the TMC 1989-1997 threads.
Wilt out west!

No,
The current Warriors jersey is the most awful piece of sports clothing…ever. They need to go, and they need to go with Chris Cohan wearing one out the door as he sells the team and goes and crawls into a hole.
In fact, the worst thing about them, other than the comic book thunder bolt, are the colors. How did we ever move away from something so classic as royal blue and yellow? And how did we get to a frikin’ bright orange alternate jersey?
There is talk however that new jerseys are on the way, and will go back to the royal and yellow. I recall the Chronicle doing a story about a year back actually discussing the marketability of the new bay bridge span in reference to a pseudo throw-back ala they city jerseys.
If I had to choose tho, between Cohan leaving or new Jerseys… Cohan goes.
Chris Cohan- YOU'RE FIRED!

Of course, UT has the good sense not to mix their lovely burnt orange hue with a lot of other stupid accent or outline colors. They also have a timeless, symmetrical, manly logo rather than a silly, cartoony one.
There will be no extra point!

IT's happening
Not sure if it’s 09 or 10, but they are planning a total rebrand of the Dubs, including logo, jersey and all.

I dunno where I heard it, a while back, but they’re going to incorporate the new bay bridge into the new logo. i even heard there may be a mixing in with the new color of the new bridge? not sure about that. sorry, no city jerseys, the team plays in oakland, it has to be something uniting like… the bay bridge!

You can't be serious!
The bay bridge is two bridges really with Yerba Buena Island in between them. Not to mention the Oakland side will be nothing but a skyway (no cable suspension etc) when it’s finished, that would look terrible on anything!
The color of the new bridge? What color would that be ? Unless concrete is a color I don’t know what your talking about.

My idea is:
Go with the logo from the mid-90s (http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/168901/03f.jpg), and then do what nike did with the college unis – big shorts, tight tops. i think that would look sweet.

So you already know it’s a racist homage, but you’re still down for it?
FYI: whether or not you “want to hear about political correctness” is irrelevant. The moment you comment on a public forum you open yourself up to dialogue and debate.

I really
don’t see how it would be any different than the FSU Seminoles, Washington Redskins (which is WAY more racist), Cleveland Indians, etc. Last time I checked the word “Warrior” had a positive connotation. I don’t think it’s racist at all.
by Gob on Jul 10, 2009 9:54 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You're right, and wrong
Warrior is a generic term, but the moment it gets manifested through a caricaturized Native American body then ugly face of racism makes itself apparent. I mention this particular group because of the clear history of genocide, and de jure and de facto racial prejudice that we’ve had to endure here in the US. The mascots and names of those other universities, and major sports franchises is a deplorable reminder of that. Some, like the Stanford Cardinal and our own Golden State Warriors, have gone away from this and I applaud them. I would love for all to follow their paths.

Usual PC crap gone mad....
If anything, Native Americans are “EXTREMELY” proud of their Warrior history and I am sure you would have MANY extremely honoured to have the logo again adorn the GSW unirforms…
It’s fair to say that “Native Americans” as they are no known, were fighting the “global war on terror” long before the current fad, In fact I have a great T-Shirt with four Indian tribesmen pictured and the slogan “Fighting Terrorism since 1492!” Infact anyone who does not descend from these tribes has no business “claiming” any ownership of right to this countries history.
Unfortunately the PC brigade have chosen to start spouting forth about what others may or may not think about certain things as if they have any true understanding of the peoples opinions at all. Personally I have a very good mate that has origins in this country from before the 1600’s and he is VERY proud of his forfathers attempts to protect their land.
If anything the Warriors badge pays homage to that time as opposed to the lunatic left who claim it is in fact "offensive’ to said group.
Oh and for the record….this whole “Asian American”, “African American”, “Native American” crap ALL needs to be banned an outlawed….. some politically correct MORON decided that further classification and segregation by “Race” to describe oneself is in fact going to create more unified harmony…….Bullcrap!
Everyone in the country should consider themselves “AMERICAN…” period….. RACE should never be included to describe oneself….
But again…wayyyyyyyyyy off topic, just one of my personal bug bears…

Thanks Brit
I am indigenous, and I am proud of my heritage, but that is not to say that i want my history caricatured and packaged to think that we were exclusively Warriors, or Indian Princesses. That’s baloney. War was not a pervasive part of our culture. We protected when it was absolutely necessary, but it was always a last resort. The image of a Native American Warrior creates a monolith of the experiences of many Native Americans (North, South, and Caribbean original Americans). But if you want to close your eyes and shout about you hate PC baloney, that’s your choice. I would ask instead that you do something to make actual change happen instead of whining about how you hate it.

Well....I have considered a career in politics for a long time...
May not be everyones cup of tea, but I may just see what I can do to change things. BTW.. Rather than label my dislike of PC correctness as “whining” it is simply a dislike for the “my way or the highway” brigade that create more division than unity with their own nonsense. Not whining, just my personal dislike for flawed idiology.
Anyway… as I said..off topic.

someone needs to check their privilege
We’re all Americans, but at the same time to say “.this whole "Asian American", "African American", "Native American" crap ALL needs to be banned an outlawed…” is to deny my parents struggle and the stuff they went through. not every American was a refugee, a slave or a group of folks who were denied their rightful land, culture and language. These terms acknowledge these different histories. More importantly, what’s so wrong with diversity?
America is about diversity, not monotony. all these cultures bring something to America.

“I really don’t see how it would be any different than the FSU Seminoles”
Well, just to be fair, the NCAA did have a problem with the FSU Seminoles. They disliked it so much, in fact, they made William & Mary lose the feathers on their logo!
Seriously, though, it’s a funny debate when it only seems to be a big enough issue to make non-important entities change their ways, while “important” organizations like the Redskins and Indians are somehow above having to change…

I like the old jerseys too
Maybe because it was the look they sported when I first started watching games in the late 1970’s, but I’m partial to the Golden State logo (with California and the star) of that era, and of course, blue and gold colors (without the garish orange) like we always remember. Cohan couldn’t even get the uniform right. I’ve hated these new unis ever since their debut, and looking at them just reminds me of the incompetence of the Cohan years.
Unrelated subject but I also can’t stand Bob Fitzgerald, and I’d like him to go away forever too.

My take - Navy Overload
I think too many teams have changed their uniforms over the past five years or so. Look at how many teams in different sports have changes their unique colorways that primarily feature a royal blue to a navy blue…. Here are a few I can think of of the top of my head:
NBA
Hawks: red /yellow &black – navy/red
Cavs: Soo many different colors – navy/red
Warriors: blue/yellow – navy/orange
Grizzlies: teal/black – navy/yellow
Jazz: purple/yellow – navy/purple
Nets: royal/Red – navy/red
Bullets/Wizards: royal/red – blue/gold
NFL teams that switched their blues from royal to navy:
Patriots, Rams, Seahawks, Broncos, Bills
MLB teams that switched their blues from royal to navy::
Brewers, Mariners , Rays(were green) Padres (were brown) Cardinals (still use red)
That being said, I think we should be a little more unique and go back to our original colorway of royal blue and yellow. The Giants went back to old school unis, the 49ers are going back to the red/gold.. The Warriors should follow suit. I’m all for a new logo though.
Also, I hate how everyone still thinks that the logo with Thunder with the lightning bolt is our logo. We stopped using that logo even before Thunder was phased out as a mascot last year. Yet ESPN/TNT, other media outlets, and even W’s fans on this site aren’t aware and continue to use it. You won’t see that logo on the Warriors website or at the Oracle. The Flying W is the official logo!
by FriscoJoe on Jul 10, 2009 9:30 AM PDT reply actions 1 recs
It’s like you read my mind, on all counts.
The fact that so many teams switched from louder blues to navy (you forgot about the Chargers as well) either shows that sports franchises are epically uncreative, or that there is some solid market research that shows navy as a more profitable color. Maybe people are more likely to wear their sports gear casually, rather than just to sporting events, if they’re navy? I dunno, but it’s ubiquitous and boring. Back to the royal blue/golden yellow for sure.
by ffgolden on Jul 10, 2009 12:04 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You got it
navy gear is definitely more profitable for that exact reason. People would wear a navy warriors sweatshirt casually , but probably not a bright blue one. I just think It would be cool to be a team that doesn’t follow suit with that and got back to their roots. Oh, and I didn’t count the chargers because they wore Navy for a majority of the 80’s and 90’s.

The key part is the last sentence
That being said, I think we should be a little more unique and go back to our original colorway of royal blue and yellow. The Giants went back to old school unis, the 49ers are going back to the red/gold.. The Warriors should follow suit. I’m all for a new logo though.

No new uni's on the forefront
I have talked with 2 different retail sources that sell Dubs gear at the games and they said that the “new uniforms” have been put on the shelf for a while due to $ that the Warriors would be responsible for to the NBA for a uniform switch. With the new salary cap #, revenue dropping and the economy the way it is, the Dubs aren’t going to switch right now. Maybe 2011 or 2012.

If they want to be correct about it they should put “the Town” on the jerseys and call it a day.
