Possible idea to improve the Warriors organization

I have lived in the bay area most of my life and have been a pretty hardcore fan for maybe 8 to 10 years now. I think everyone can agree that it is a fact that we have an incredibly dedicated fan-base, especially in relation to our teams actual performance. Unfortunately for us though, most players in the NBA don't have a strong desire to come here to play and the image of our team to the league isn't that well established. So I propose an idea I've had for a long long time.

I think the Warriors should move to San Francisco.

I have a couple thought I'd like to make on this idea.

1. I think San Francisco could better support the image of the team without moving them too far from where they are. It's still close to the current fans.

2. They could go back to being "the city," the coolest uniform and logo combination, EVER.

3. San Francisco is awesome and could attract more players.

4. The 49ers are moving to Santa Clara leaving San Francisco with only one professional team.

5. The Warriors redid their arena a bit in 1996 (or whenever it was) but I think its been long enough that they wouldn't be making that all for nothing.

6. The A's and Raiders don't want to share their stadium and could build a new one in place of the current warriors arena.

Those are my general thoughts on it, I don't think this could happen for awhile, but if tried to do this by say 2013, that could be really cool.

What do you all think?

What's wrong with Oakland?

can you please explain this statement in particular,“San Francisco could better support the image of the team…” Choose your words wisely as this post seems borderline ignorant…

by turbulence24 on Aug 29, 2009 9:42 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

San Francisco has more people, tourism, businesses, history and national recognition

All things that I feel help a team’s image

I’m not sure how that’s ignorant…

san francisco is a bigger market.

San Jose is an option too. But Oakland is fine for now

by thecity23 on Aug 29, 2009 10:13 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

and san jose wants a NBA team too

they were actually the highest bidder for the sonics but were honest about their plans to move the team, unlike the guys from oklahoma who lied about keeping the team in seattle and ended up moving them as soon as the team was theirs

another thought

one of the coolest things about madison square garden and staples center is that they are both in the city, where as oracle arena is in a big parking lot.

there’s not really anything that cool about the staples center

I don’t think the team’s image is really the problem. They draw well in Oakland, much better than the generally crappy product would predict. The real problem isn’t location, it’s the players on the court and the guys making decisions about the players on the court.

I would think playing in a bigger city could put more pressure on the management, and actually help the fans in that regard

I like Oakland

Agreed on the location thang… its the management issue I’m finally seeing full circle…

Yeah its not the location thats the problem its the players, and management.

If I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hatin.

San Francisco could better support the image of the team

Haha , If we want the image to be the golden state girlymen? We need more toughness not more culture. Let’s G up the team with Iverson and Amare instead of sourdough and symphony

Hope they move to SJ

I live in San Jose, would love to see them there. Then we got the Sharks and the Warriors, but I think Oakland is fine. The Dubs have already been in San Francisco, dunno if they’ll move back. San Jose needs some more sports team because Hockey is really the only one in a professional league.

Oakland is like a halfway point...

I had a wish of wanting the Dubs 2 move to SJ some time ago. That would be an extra hour commute for me LOL… Oakland is a fair halfway point for me, but thats just my opinion.

Somewhere between the diridon station and 280

That’s a long ways from “downtown”

I have an idea to improve us!

Win games. Honestly if we were still the team from we believe and in the playoffs it would not matter one bit. When Baron was here people knew we were in Oakland and Oakland had national recognition. And I do like those jerseys but those are "the city " jerseys. We represent the whole bay area now so it would not make sense. How about we make newer better jerseys. No offense but I think the Oakland atmosphere is better. More "crazy " and louder fans.

why would moving to sf help at all?

I only agree about the jersey comment because “the city” is easily the dopest. But how would a bigger city put more pressure on Cohan? He’s just an asshole with his own agenda no matter if he’s in O Town, SF, NY, or Bermuda.

Moving to SF still won’t help is Cohan still owns the team….

Word...

We can move to Fremont, Milpitas, Fairfield or even Hercules! …and at the end of the day, Cohan is still the boss!

SF?

where would they go the cow palace? For most people it would be an hour longer to get there and if you think the traffic on 80 is bad wait till about 7pm when people are trying to get into the city for a game. I think attendance would go down if they were in the city. And if there were game on critical mass days look out!

There's a party in my mind.
And I wish that I was there.

Sorry but a dumb idea

Why would they leave Oakland? The Warriors are great for Oakland and why would you just let the Oracle Arena waste.

MOVE TO SAN FRANCISCO

so then i dont have to drive over an hour to go to a game, besides that awesome reason i dont see why they would move there.

Good idea for "The City" bad idea for the "Bay area" which is the fan base

This is northern California’s team…“.The City” jersey makes no sense considering the team’s name….

by Only In Fairfax on Sep 1, 2009 1:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Stay in the OAK

It would cost way to much to build an Arena in the city, and I already know tons of season ticket holders, part-season ticket holders and fans that already commute across the Bay Bridge and the San Mateo Bridge to go to games. If the Warriors are half decent they will sell out every game, it doesn’t matter where they play. Fix the product on the court.

Oh and make a road jersey that either says GSW or Golden State.

In this economy

Why would a struggling state want to build a new stadium for an average team?
