How far can this squad go?
Lets be honest here, even with Houston falling off, the Suns unloading players, and teams like New Orleans and Utah not guarnteed to make the playoffs, we still are not a team to make a push into the post season. Trading for a player like Maxiell would help our post defense, but he would not launch us into the post season. Trading for a player like Caron Butler would get us really close but we still would lack defense in the post. If we can get both (don't worry this is not totally another trade thread) it would guarntee us a playoff spot.
We recieve- Butler and Maxiell
Detroit recieves- Maggette, Blatche and either Law, Claxton or George.
Washington recieves- Wright, Kwame, Will Bynum and either Law, Claxton or George.
The contracts roughly work and if there needs to be any cash thrown in to make the contracts work we have the trade exceptions from Crawford and Harrington and Washington has the exception from Pecherov.
But this deal is not very likely to happen. If we stand pat we are looking at 35-41 wins. With this trade I think this is a 45+ win team.
Our point guards- You can even make the argument we don't have any. Just two combo guards. If Curry does end up becoming a point guard that would be great but it wouldn't happen over night. Monta is not a point by any means. It's just not his nature to be a passer.
Grade- C : Lots of talent but will anyone step up to actually be a distributor?
Swingmen- Were extremely deep here. Ellis is an outstanding two guard, Jackson is a very good point forward, Azebuike is solid all round, and Maggette is a consistent offensive player. But where is the defense? Jackson is the only good one here and sometimes he is behind arguing with refs. Morrow is probably the best pure shooter in the league but sometimes seems lost on defense.
Grade- B : Extremely good offensively. But defense is lacking big here.
Bigs- We have a great center tandem with Andris and Ronny. Maybe the best in the league. Randolph has the "P" word in his favor and has showed us that he is probably going to end up being a top 10 power forward in the NBA. I know that is a bold statement but that is how I honestly feel about him. He has everything and from what I have heard this offseason is that his three point shot is developing well. I think we all know Wright also has potential but also will probably be traded for a better post defender. He is efficient, does not commit many turnovers but is extremely weak and gets pushed around alot.
Grade- B- : Has everything but post defense.

How far can this squad go?
As far as I want them to.
If I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hatin.
How are
New Orleans and Utah not going to make the playoffs? Utah had almost as injuries as us and made it last year and NO has paul and west they’re a lock unless one of them goes out for the season. THERE IS ONE SPOT up for grabs as i see it and its going to be between Warriors, Phoneix, and Clips. Also theres no way that trade goes down we make out like bandits.
come on!
We’re way better than what most people on this blog think. If our team was keeping up with elite teams with our second/third stringers last season then how do you think we’ll do when we actually have a solid rotation? Mark my words!!! Morrow will take us to the playoffs!!!
“Morrow will take us to the playoffs!!!”
Of all the possibilities for what could happen next year, this has to rank near the bottom of the list. Morrow might have a solid season and be a useful player for us, but if we make the playoffs, it will be because Monta has a huge year, or Randolph breaks out in the way we all hope…it’s not going to be because of Morrow. At best he plays a minor role in something like this…

If it happens, I’ll give you full credit for your prediction.

all of his 47 pts
Most of them were contested too. You know that he’ll make the same shots in front of NBA starters too if given the same room and he proved that his first NBA start and on the 3pt line the whole season. The dude is the best shooter in the league. If he had a shot like that in his undrafted rookie season then the sky is the limit for this guy.
I actually agree
With the statement that we’re better than most posters here on GSoM think, but yeah, you’re wrong about it being Morrow. He’ll hit some big shots for us this year, but I think that if we do make waves, it will be the trio of Monta, Biedrins, and Randolph who do the splashing.
How far will they go? Boston is 3100 miles away. I think that’s a shade farther than Miami.

I think this squad has potentially more than 42 wins in it
Remember, we’re still only one year removed from a 48 win season in which Jackson, Ellis, and Biedrins were cornerstone contributors. Plus we’re deeper now with Randolph, Maggette, Turiaf, Azubuike, Morrow, and Wright. We don’t have BD, but we’re definitely stronger down low and more experienced.
And seeing that Butler (when healthy) is an elite player, your trade is proposal is a little silly. Plus Washington is looking to win now with Arenas, Butler, and Jamison. They paid Arenas the extreme max, they dumped their top five pick for Foye and Miller, etc. etc. etc. They’re not going to take youth for known 20/5/5 and 2 steals a game Caron Butler.
How far can this squad go? We recieve- Butler and Maxiell??Grade- C :???

The grades are for the current team.
And I did say the Caron trade is very unlikely, it’s just a far fetched idea…… or is it? (runs to go find Larry Riley)
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "Your a rookie"
How Far Will They Go?
13th Spot In NBA Draft.
Monta Ellis- 23 ppg 5 asst 5 rebs 2 stls
Get Back to Basketball, your Mopeding too much!
I think we could be 7 seed
1. San Antonio
2. Los Angeles
3. Portland
4. Dallas
5. Denver
6. Utah
7, 8 New Orleans/Phoenix/Golden State
Now that we have devean george
60 wins!
or 35-42
I think we will be around 39 and 44 wins,
If we don’t make the playoffs. But i said before that if we can get off to a great start than we have a good shot at the playoffs. Just as important is finshing strong because if we are in the race for the playoffs right down to the wire we are going to need to win games. Monta and Randolph really need to have big seasons if we wish to make it to the playoffs along with guys like Jack, Morrow, Wright, stepping up alittle. Azubukie, Turiaf, Maggette, and Biedrins need to improve aliitle and stay good at what they do and Curry also needs to have a strong rookie year. Now i know all of this isn’t going to happen but if we can get the most out of our roster than we can be a good team.

You guys think this the roster we arer going to battle with?
If so 40-42 wins seems about right. But I think we are going to score a big guy before the season once we can deal our expiring contracts. No rush to do it now, but I have a feeling we may already have a deal in place with someone. If we get a skilled big man. Then 50 wins is possible.
by crab dribble cocktail on Aug 4, 2009 8:57 AM PDT reply actions
What kind of big man are you talking about if you expect him to add 8-10 wins to the Warriors?
by Missing Barry on Aug 4, 2009 9:11 AM PDT up reply actions
Boozer? Even Lee could help to that extent. There are a few others that would have enough impact down low to change several close games.
by crab dribble cocktail on Aug 4, 2009 9:26 AM PDT up reply actions
All I’m saying is 8 wins is a huge swing, and I think you’re underestimating what kind of player it’d take to give us that much additional success. Would those players make us better? Absolutely. Should we try to add another big man? There’s certainly a reasonable argument that we should. I just don’t see the impact being that great.
For example, I do not know how well win shares actually measures a player’s impact on team wins, but last year Boozer only put up 2.7 win shares (in just under half a season). He put up 10.3 and 9.8 the two seasons before that. David Lee put up 9.5 last year, the first year he cracked 8. If these are somewhat good at predicting the number of wins a player adds (again, not sure if that’s true), once you take into account the production lost from the players whose minutes they’re taking…8-10 wins becomes a very difficult number to achieve.
by Missing Barry on Aug 4, 2009 11:03 AM PDT up reply actions
now were quoting win shares?
I can make the arguement if we had Kobe or LeBron we would win 65 games and win the Championship. Guess Kobe and Lebrons win shares are off the chart.
by crab dribble cocktail on Aug 4, 2009 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions
I’m not sure what your point is? I was trying to use some evidence to describe the impact having the guys you mentioned would be. If you have a problem with the evidence (win shares), by all means, share your thoughts – as I said I’m not overly familiar with how good they are for something like this. I’m just trying to make a case that the guys you suggested would very likely add less than 8 wins to the Warriors by acquiring them. Rather than going from a 40-42 win team to a ~50 win team I think it’d be more like going from a 40-42 win team to a ~46 win team?

I hope we barely miss playoffs
OK – Hear me out. With Nelson in his last year as a coach and a healthier team than last year I predict we fall short (3-6) games of a final playoff bid – but this is a good thing.
In the meantime, Monta learns the PG position and while he doesn’t remind anyone of John Stockton – he still is good enough to be the team leader. I don’t agree with those who say it isn’t in his DNA – Ellis is going to be out to prove everyone wrong and if he stay healthy I belief he will. Also, Nelson has coached amazing PGs and if he and Monta work well together he can teach Ellis alot before heading back to maui. Randolph has a great year (prediction: on this site we will be complaining about him getting robbed of an all star spot) and Curry struggles but has flashes of brilliance and we will complain about a lack of playing time. SJax and Maggs will start out playing too much but as the season progresses other guys supplant them and secure spots for the following year. If Wright stays all season I think we’ll see some games with him as PF, AR as SF and Biedrins as C – and those games will be fun to watch and we’ll blow the potential for that combo out of proportion.
Most importantly, we gain cred back in the eyes of the league and guys want to come join the warriors to help us get over the hump the following year with coach Keith Smart or maybe even a proven coach we get in the offseason. As much as I respect Nelson I think his ego in someways holds back this team – with him gone the team will breathe easier and enjoy the game more.
Go 9th seed!
well, ok, heard ya out, but consider -
if we’re gonna miss the playoffs (again) someone has to ask: why 9th? why not really max out the development year by off-loading Jax & Maggette to contenders or pretenders and grab a better lottery pick be finishing lower? Nelson would still get his record, the young’ns would get major minutes, etc. … as for gaining cred back in the eyes of the league, I just don’t see that happening by us finishing 9th … imo we finish 9th = the worst place for us – middling draft pick (again), no cred (still) and no playoffs (sigh)… for me, it’s playoffs, or bust … & bust = tank for the most ping-pong balls (can’t believe it’s barely august and I’m making this comment, yech!)
I don’t see any benefit to just missing the playoffs. Making the playoffs gives our players more games to develop, especially in the playoffs (which generally features better D than the regular season, and better competition). Missing by a lot gives us a better draft pick and a realistic (if still unlikely) chance of a top 3 pick.

There’s a reason shoot-first PG’s do not morph into real PG’s. People’s character and personality is largely developed in childhood and that certainly doesn’t change. I wouldn’t bank on Monta becoming a real PG, although there is the possibility. Still, I expect us to use him as a SG, because as a PG, he’s just another project.
I hate those normal-sized midgets. What are they called again? Oh, yeah. People.
Trade w/ the Hawks
Maggette and Wright
for
J Smoove
Warriors:
PG Ellis – Curry
SG Jackson – Morrow
SF Smoove – Azubuike
PF Randolph – Smoove
C Biedrins – Turiaf
Josh Smith isn't a good option to have as a 3
If we made that trade, I could see Azubuike and Smith starting with AR on the bench, or Smith would come off the bench. I don’t like that trade. There’s only one player that I think we have a shot at getting that I believe makes sense in terms of balance and AK47 would make us a lot better.

Atlanta Hawks
PG Bibby – Teague
SG Johnson – Crawford
SF Evans – Maggette
PF Horford – Wright
C Pachulia
I don't get why people keep saying Monta can't be a PG.
If Tony Parker and Allen Iverson can be successful NBA PG’s, Monta Ellis certainly can. He’s not going to average 10 assists a game, which is fine, BD never did either. 6-8 assists is a nice average, and Jack averaged 6.5 assists a game last year, that’s not out of Monta’s reach. Monta has never been a ‘black hole" like Jack or Corey, but if there is one player I want to get in that mode, it’s Monta, he is our best offensive weapon. Monta needs to look to score more than pass for us to be our best anyway.
This is Nellieball, Monta can be an excellent PG in this system.

Washington
would have to be delusional to want to trade Butler for Wright, Kwame, Bynum, and garbage. Why would they do it? Seriously.
I don’t get the New Orleans hate. Sure, they laid down like dogs in the playoffs against the Nuggets, but they still have Chris Paul, David West, and the trade for Okafor made them incrementally better.
