READ THIS BEFORE YOU MAKE A NEW FANPOST!
The number of fanposts/fanshots about the same topic has gotten out of control over the past 3 days. I'm not a mod, but I thought some general guidelines might be useful. Its a pretty simple 3 step process.
1. Are you about write some new story at all related to Stephen Jackson wanting out of the Bay Area and/or a potential trade with Dallas?
If you answered 'no' to question 1, stop reading and proceed with your fanpost. If you answered 'yes' to question 1 proceed to question 2.
2. Do you have any useful new (can't emphasize that new part enough) information to contribute? (i.e. a new article about the subject that has not yet been discussed or actual news related to a possible trade) This is where it can get kinda tricky, because it may require to actually read what everyone else has already posted. Incidentally, reading what everyone else had already posted would be much easier for you if there weren't already 10 too many recent threads about Stephen Jackson.
If you answered 'no' to question 2 feel free to express your opinion about Stephen Jackson, Don Nelson, a Mavs trade or another potential Jackson trade inside any of the open Stephen Jackson threads, preferably the first (and recommended) fanshot or the frontpage story. If you answered 'yes' to question 2, proceed to question 3.
3. Do you really have a new perspective on the subject to go along with your new information/new article that you wish to share? Again, this may require that you actually read the other related threads.
If you answered 'yes' to question 3 then you probably have the start to a pretty good fanpost, proceed. If you answered 'no' to question 3 then you have everything you need for a good fanshot.
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

It definitely would be easier if there was one post.
BTW, can you link me to the original Stephen Jackons/Monta to Dallas fan post? I can’t even tell anymore.

Lets analyze this fanpost
As far as I can tell this fanpost fails your own requirements. :p

Let me make this more simple
If you want to make a post related to GSW, go right ahead. And hopefully other people will like it, appreciate it, leave positive comments etc.
You have nothing to lose, just post it and if it does not work out moderators will remove it, or other posts will replace yours at the top, either way no big deal.

Yea because obviously everyone’s opinion is special enough that it deserves its own fanpost. Its difficult to actually discuss the news when there are literally 12 posts about the same subject. At most there should have been 1 initial fanpost, 1 front page story, one fanpost about the dallasbasketball story, and maybe one Stephen Jackson trade idea super thread. How could you possibly justify any more than that?

make that 14. two more just popped up. if it wasn’t out of hand already, this has become absolutely ridiculous. is it time to have a delay between when a fanpost is submitted to when it gets published so a mod can approve it? anything to keep the noise down.

Except it is a big deal when there are 15 posts on the same subject. It ruins any attempts to get one conversation going. It removes other fanposts from the recent list that may have interesting conversations. If you have a fanpost, go ahead and post it, as long as it isn’t on the same subject that’s already been posted. If it is on the same subject, post your thoughts as a comment in the fanpost already up. People will read your comments, and even respond to them. They don’t need a separate fanpost to generate discussion.

So that’s what Sam did right?
There’s no “right” or “wrong” in this discussion, he thinks there are too many fanposts on the subject so he put a fanpost up about that. Ironic or appropriate? Who cares? I’m going to follow your advice and just roll with it and respect Sam’s opinion and let it stand on its own merits.

This is not true at all. We have outlined the requirements and expectations for FanPosts/ FanShots/ Comments on this site numerous times to continue to keep it a fun, safe, intelligent, and high quality space.
Think before you post.
It is a complete waste of my fellow writers and my time to have to hide: 1) redundant posts (the number that we hide daily is out of control), 2) non-family show material, or 3) poorly written junk.
We are not here to moderate a “message board”. We are to write articles and build/ have a great time out with a golden community. Please help us attain that goal. Thanks.
(Thank you Sam for trying to help keep this community golden)

Farid...
I’m with you on this one, but Atma makes a good point. If woodbie posters would just scan the fanpost list and see if their topic is on par with a post already started then we’d all be better off. That said, alot of fanpost go of on tangents away from the topic… so why not start the topic up again without the random banter. As I started out saying I’m down with people posting their minds. I know I’ve had posts taken down (because they were redundant).

What you have to lose is credibility.

I was thinking about posting something like this myself. LOL That is absolutely absurd that people are making so many new posts about the same thing.

i actually made a post like this a few weeks ago
then it was off the front page in literally 1 hour all with stupid trade ideas to make the warriors a playoff contender, i got frusterated and took it down. But I think this fanpost a recommended one, people need to learn to just add their special opinions to the originalfanpost about the topic and to not make a pointless one.

My new post mentions Jackson. ha ha Seriously, it’s more about the rest of the team. I think it’s a lot more interesting than a bunch of trade machine posts or “waaa.. the Dubs are the worst franchise ever!”

Hai guyz
I think we should trade Moped Monta and Captain Jerk to Dallas for Dirk. Look it works in trade machine: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=l6r7ux
Both Moped and Capn Jerk aren’t real Warriors and want to be traided. Also, Dirk wants to play with Nellie. Mark Cuban dumb so hed do this with us. What do you guys think? Should I write a fan post about it?
by philthiest on Aug 30, 2009 7:12 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
you should probably write two. one detailing what you just said, but in more words, then another that shows us what the new lineup would look like. a comment really doesn’t give me the full picture.

I’m going to give this an official GSoM mod Seal of Approval™. (Collect all of them and redeem for a virtual GSoM action figure!)
To emphasize sam23’s very important point: before putting up a fanpost, think very carefully if it might better be added as a comment on an existing post.

Sam23...
I feel you’re angst about the various fan posters. But I think your post is equally as annoying. I you’re basically acting like the fan post gestapo.

Yes, everyone that makes recommendations that would result in things working better for everyone is Big Brother. That makes a lot of sense. How about wild-eyed people not throw around extreme, emotionally charged insults at people who make constructive recommendations? I know that’s a lot to ask, to not try to manipulate people into shutting up, so you can feel better about doing whatever you feel like doing. But I think it’s only fair to just let them speak, and we let you do whatever stupid thing you choose to do. We can’t stop you.

Agreed, this site has gotten really saturated
I know everyone thinks they are an sportswriter expert and has some cool insight. Not everyone needs to make a fanpost about the Jackson trade or they’re extreme trade machine idea. I’m all about hearing something new, but everyone’s comments and takes should have been comments on the original post. just saying.
