Warriors delay sending first-rounder to Nets [Yahoo! Sports]
Not sure what to make of this quite yet, but interesting stuff. Hopefully there's a trade soon. This roster needs a shakeup. (I think that's the 1,041st time I've said that.)

I figured this is what would happen with the conditional first round pick.
First round picks sell more tickets. Unless your name is Monta Ellis.
They’d have to bring in a real difference maker to shellac their first round pick.
Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell? Oh no hide the children!
Re: Not sure what to make of this quite yet
If nothing else, it means they can package their 2010 1st rounder now in a deal.

This has been rumored for awhile.
Let the Trade Fan Posts commence!
Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.
"It takes a special kind of anti-mojo for a team to miss the playoffs 14 out of 15 seasons. Like, say, the Warriors under Chris Cohan."
Unless of course...
The F.O. has decided that this is not our year, and are planning on restructuring the team in 2010 summer. This would explain the recent acquisition of expiring contracts, and the postponing of the first round pick. They could be thinking, let the team go out there, unequiped yet again, manage to sell some tickets, and bomb out at the end. landing a top ten pick in 2010, and enough money to bring in a major player, Then have our break out season in 2010-2011, and get some more talented youth.
Possible take on the situation. But why not?
This year, they’re likely to go 40-40 without making a move (and provided there are no more moped accidents). If they don’t make any moves for the next couples year, they’ll probably keep improving considering their young guys and their potential.

I got auto-banned for accidentally “throttling.” (My browser was acting strangely and caused me to post a fanshot multiple times).

You
should ask to get unbanned since it was a accident. I got banned before for posting without capitalizing in some Fanshots but I emailed GSOM and appealed my case.
ya, i got banned too

Nauticus--
Email us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com with the email address, etc from your original Nauticus account.
There was a nasty spam attack on the entire SBN network this past weekend and some members got auto-banned by the temporary stricter security measures. I’m guessing that’s what happened here.
Sorry for the troubles.

True
I do agree that we will come back into relevancy just by developing this roster, however if we could get a major player in here, without having to give up anything really(except maybe not resigning b-wright for salary reasons), and be vaulted into title contention, is that not better. Now i am tired of being sold on the future as much as the next dub fan, but this might be best. Try and struggle for a playoff spot, sure. But when we are back at the lottery next summer with 15-20million to hand out to whoever we want, its not going to be that bad.
That said, i really do hope we make a huge move. We have all the pieces for a major vet.
Expiring contracts, check.
Talented youth that we aren’t using(b-wright), check.
First round pick, check.
Lebron to the bay for a one year rental, priceless.
I wish I could make this trade in my paspn league,
considering that I’m the nets.
I mean, might be good all around, bt free second-round picks is a good thing.
I support the Tornado Release [See: Joakim Noah]
This seems like a bigger story than just the surface
Of all the stories this summer, this tells me more about what the W’s think THEIR OWN chances are of making the playoffs this year = not good.
I’ve been pretty optimistic about the upcoming season, but this actually makes me worry because if they thought they’d make the playoffs, they give NJ the pick.
If they think they’re going to be lottery after this seaon, then it makes sense to defer the pick to NJ.
Of course, using it to trade this season (maybe w/Jackson) is a possibility as well…
I view it totally differently!
That we are going to make that blockbuster trade and the other team wants a No.1 in 2010 and or 2011. We are very young and no longer desire No. 1 picks if we can trade for a proven stud. Let the stud trading begin!.Funny how things look different on other sides of the fence.

The trade has no (direct) bearing on this year's draft pick
this tells me more about what the W’s think THEIR OWN chances are of making the playoffs this year = not good.
Actually, the Warriors have always had their 2010 pick. If they wanted to make sure they kept it, they wouldn’t have bothered with this trade. The purpose of this trade is to remove the possibility of having to trade the 2011 pick so that they can trade the 2010 pick. Using your logic, in contrast to your conclusion, this would indicate that the Warriors think they can get more for their 2010 pick by trading it away; an indication they think they’ll make the playoffs and wouldn’t be drafting a player that is likely to help the team soon anyway.
Again, if they thought they were lottery bound this year and next the protections on the picks from Mullin’s trade mean they could expect to keep them. This implies the Warriors are beginning to feel they don’t need to draft new talent, so much as develop what they have and, possibly, trade for (or sign) one or two final pieces.
Obviously we all want that to be true
I think we are only trying to figure out all the possible reasons they might have done this for.
Regardless of the explanation, i am more relieved just to see that they are doing something. This is an odd move, at least from the outside looking in, but i think we can all agree that it shows some kind of direction. And that is refreshing.
Er, how exactly would pushing the Nets’ claim on our first rounder to 2011 save money for Cohan? I know that’s the default reaction around here to anything the Warriors do — and half the time it’s probably reasonable — but applying it here makes no sense.
A minor but weirdly intriguing move. I’m waiting for Dr. Jae to drop in and enlighten us…
There will be no extra point!

Yep, im waiting for jae,
to tell us exactly what happened and how it affects us.
The ‘trade’ does scare me, as it seems as the front office is worried about either making a splash this year and/or making a run for the 8th seed(and failing) or actually building a real team.

Instead of a 2011 protected 1st... the Warriors now owe NJ a 2012 protected 1st rounder, and a 2011 second round pick.
[So the Warriors and Nets huddled and came up with a new solution. The Nets would receive Golden state’s first rounder in either 2012, ’13 or 14. The first rounder is protected 1 through 7 in both 2012 and 2013, protected 1 through 6 in 2014. If the Warriors still stink worse than the American League Central in 2014, then the Nets would get two second rounders: in 2014 and 2016. That’s in addition to a second rounder in 2011.]

Thank You Bob
I think this is a good thing. Clearly this is not cost effective for us, and it shows that there must be a plan to do something with that flexability.
this doesn't need to signify anything more than a market adjustment
If the overall value of the top twelve picks in the 2010 draft pool (the talent evaluators have already worked it out to a degree; twelve is just a round number a little under the lottery level) is perceived to be fairly high, with talent extending to the lower lottery slots, in a manner of speaking GS is setting the their relative value over the later years to be a couple of second round picks. The value of the nearer term draft is obviously a bit more fixed because more things change on many levels, the further into the future plans get projected. This past draft, for example, another team got to cash in a pick that St. Jean had traded away—with no clue at the time what condition the team would be in, or what the talent in this year’s draft would be like.
Of course the main reason might be to make the pick a trade asset in the near term, but if Cohan thinks he can get a potential star at the rookie rate of compensation by keeping the pick, rather than trading it for an expensive veteran, who’s to say he wouldn’t prefer keeping the pick? We expect it’s as likely as not to be packaged with a current player with a bad contract, so in that case it would be a financial move and not necessarily to improve the on-court personnel. The team has put itself in the company of the Cle “cadavaliers” whose owner annually gave away its top pick and provoked the regulation.
What is going on with the Warriors?
If I were them, I’d obtain a strong frontcourt player while lessening the logjam of average backcourt players. Captain Jack is a good player, Monta Ellis is not bad, and Stephen Curry could be Dell Curry 2.0. However, they still have Acie Law, Speedy Claxton, Corey Maggette, and Devean George on their roster.
Oh wait, I forgot about Kelenna Azubuike…The Warriors have the tools to be a .500 team, but I’m not sure if they’ll correctly utilize those tools
