Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

I just read an interesting article on the Warriors and our fans in regards to our expectations for the upcoming season. Although this read was somewhat entertaining, I'm looking at this as generating more positive buzz for our young rookie Stephen Curry. Hopefully, Curry will be able to get the playing time he deserves and be a contender for ROY.

I think our expectations as Warriors fans are low enough. A friend of mine from Philly is a 76ers fan and his expectations are not simply to sneak into the playoffs, but to win a championship. To him, not getting there is a bust and he kept telling me to increase my expectations and stop watching the Warriors/attending games till they became a better team. Yes, even he says the 76ers suck, but that’s just the mentality and expectation they have in Phillly land for all of their sports teams.

The most important rule about being a Warriors fan

is that you have to learn to expect and live with suck. You have to learn to put up with the misery and pain of a poorly run franchise, of giving out dumb bad contracts, of players not wanting to come or stay here, of being jeered by opposing fans, of the season ending in mid April. Only then are you a true Warriors fan.

Those of us who watched the Warriors before We Believe know exactly what I’m talking about. Those who joined during We Believe are now getting the true Warriors fan experience. Some can’t handle it and quit. I remember early last season we had several fanposts from people complaining about how they couldn’t put up with the losing and left. Those are the failed Warriors fans. The rest of us have been here following the story lines faithfully. Those are the real Warriors fans.

So if you expect suck, then you won’t be disappointed when they do suck. When they don’t suck, then you truly appreciate a good thing.

Very well said

the people who are still here after last season and all these years are the real fans. I became a Warriors fan in 2002 because of J Rich, Arenas ect, but then i quickly learned to love everyone on the team. After all of the nonsense that has went on since then i’m still here and not thinking about leaving. As a GS fan you learn that losing sucks but when you finally begin to win, it will be the best thing ever because we stuck by our yeams side instead of jumping on when they are good.

+1, couldn’t have said it better myself. The sweet isn’t as sweet without the bitter.

You loved Dunleavy? I couldn’t watch. I HATE bad defense. To add insult to injury, he was awfully inconsistent.

I was a fan way before you. However, I can only take so much. No heart. No defense. No watchie them play. I don’t need them to WIN. I need a team that plays to win. I am loyal only to a team that has heart (and at least some BBIQ and defense).

Personally, I was a fan of the Dubs back in the day… until they got boring, sucked and lacked heart. I guess J-Rich was a’right, but I knew Arenas would be better than him. I guess I stopped following them, about when Arenas left.

Then I started following again, when Nellie came back. Seemed like the good old days. For me, the 14 years between then and now doesn’t exist… or barely exists (I watched them a little and followed how they were doing).

I am personally somewhat optimistic. We have Nellie, Randolph, Biedrins, Monta, Jackson, Curry, etc. If we stay healthy, it will be a fun year, where we either almost make the playoffs or barely make them. Good times!

I’ve been a Warriors fan since the Jordan era of run TMC, and I lived in NY at the time! But I think with the work ethic of Anthony Randolph and Stephen Curry, we’re going to have such a bright future when some of the older teams (see Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas) start tailing off. I mean come on, Bimbo Coles, Gugliotta, Felton Spencer, Clifford Rozier, Andrew Declerq, Adam Keefe, Mark Price (during his late years), Jason Caffey (after 5 good games with the W’s), Josh Grant (the forgotten rookie during Webber’s rookie year), oh yeah let’s not forget about the little Spreewell incident and how Magic Johnson totally faked him out during his return game.

Yeah, us Warrior fans have been through a lot.

That's how I feel

I still do live in NY but i’m a die hard Warriors fan. I love GS and i don’t want to root for no other team. Eversince 2002, i’ve just been a Warrior fan at heart.

Im just finding out...

Im not gonna lie. My interest in the warriors was rekindled from we believe. I watched them as a kid, but stopped paying attention when i was old enough to realize we sucked. While i never rooted for another team, i can’t honestly say i was a warriors fan for at least the decade leading up to we believe. Started paying attention when nellie returned, and started caring again after the indiana trade. But now i am obsessed. Have to check GSoM at least three times a day, if not way way more often. I can’t get enough warriors. I am having to follow football more closely just to distract myself from the recent in activity from the warriors in august and september.

I guess my obsession really picked up the summer after We Believe, when i moved to SoCal. They became my connection to the bay, and my little shred of home.

The only good thing about the start of football season is that it means its one step closer to what really matters, basketball season!

I don’t know. The 9ers are looking impressive. Gore was lookin’ like Barry Sanders last game… well, not quite. But he did have two 75 yard + runs!
