When you look at the Warriors roster it's undeniable that they possess one of the most talented, albeit raw rosters. With drafting Steph Curry they bring possibly even more young, raw talent to the team.
What do Randolph, Ellis, Morrow, Biedrins, Curry, Azubuike and Wright all have in common? They're all 25 years old or younger. The talent of the youth on this team is somewhat staggering when you look at how good this team could be in a year or two of playing together under their belt. I don't think you could find a roster in the NBA with as much youth and upside as the Warriors. I know upside is a dreaded word, I hate when people use it but I think we've all seen the potential our youngsters could posess if given the time and coaching they need. That's where our problem lies, the coaching. Nellie may be one of the winniest coaches of all time but his downfall is how stubborn he is, he'll do anything to make sure eveyrone knows he's in control, even at the cost of depriving some of the youngest but brightest players on our team.
Nellie is not the right coach for this team, he would be much better served on a veteran team who was in contention, not a team like the Warriors. I think most of us know he's pretty much checked out of wanting to develop players and just wants the all time wins record so he can call it a career and go live the rest of his days out in Hawaii. The only thing that's going to allow us to have a new head coach is when he does become the all time wins leader and until then we're going to be between a rock and a hard place. Every year our youngsters lose is a lost opportunity for them to grow and mature as a team and as players on the court.
This is mostly a pipe dream but I'd love for the Dubs to throw out a line up of Curry, Ellis, Randolph, Wright and Biedrins. I know this would never happen and on the perimeter we'd be weak defensively but we're going to be weak defensively no matter what, I'd rather develop the young guys then play the likes of Maggs and Jackson a ton of minutes and let the kids sit on the bench. Who knows they might even surprise us and be decent once they get a few games under their belt together. We could have Morrow, Azuibuike, Jackson, Maggs and Turiaf be coming off the bench.
As bright as our future could look I believe that it's inevitable what will happen, our youngsters will be so turned off by the coach and front office that they'll head for greener pastures once their contracts are up and I can't really say I blame them. It's the sad cycle that is the Warriors in which we've grown accustom to. This young team kinda reminds me of when we had J Rich, Agent 0, Jamison and Larry Hughes, it was like we had all the talent in the world but couldn't put it together. This roster has even more talent then that one did but I fear that the same thing will happen and we'll be left in the dust to start all over again. Unfortunately this is the franchise I've come to know, I can only hope that once in my life we'll get it right.
