Is anyone else getting tired of this?
So of course the Warriors media day, the beginning of a new year where there is so much hope and possibility for the team, is filled with controversial comments from players complaining about the team and their teammates. Of course, its the Warriors. I come onto GSOM often and read some of the comments from fans who have had enough, and I kind of just keep on saying, "Itll get better, Curry is going to be good, AR is a monster, a big trade is coming ..etc...etc...." Pretty much the same line of reasoning Ive had the past 15 years or so.
After reading Jackson's comments, I am completely with him; who would want to stay with an organization that blows up a potential 50 win team? Warriors brass is not in it to win, neither is Nellie, and the organization shows no concern for its insanely loyal fanbase. After reading Monta's comments, I was compelled to write this fanpost. Monta let the team down last year, and now the first day into this year he is bashing the organization and the rookie. Curry was the best player on the board, and Monta needs to be a team player, it is not about him, it is about the Warriors, when you are getting paid millions to play basketball, you don't go out on day one and tell the world how you can't play with someone. Maybe, you go out and get a few games under your belt before you do that. These comments by Jax and Ellis have certainly cast an awkward atmosphere over the team and I feel bad for the youngsters that they have to deal with this so young. The two could be so upset with management that they don't care, thats fine, but keep it to yourself at least until the season starts. We all have problems at work or school or whatever and we can't just come out on Monday and start telling everyone how we hate the guy next to us. A company cannot function that way and neither can a team.
I've stuck with the Warriors for a long time, and after many years of being neglected by management, it may be time to move on to the Kings or something. Blame me for not being loyal, but I'm starting to realize that I cannot be loyal to something that is only concerned with itself, and that is what Warriors management and players are concerned with, themselves. I also don't care if someone has written this already or if I wrote it in the wrong part of the blog.

Warriors to Kings?
I’ve stuck with the Warriors for a long time, and after many years of being neglected by management, it may be time to move on to the Kings or something.
Newsflash: Kings are worse.

yeah
But I have a feeling that once they get good, they’ll stay good for a long time. Unlike the Warriors, where they give us two good seasons and just completely ruin everything. Only reason we have a future to look forward too is because of luck. But we can’t be lucky forever.

Why? I mean they had a nice little run there for a few years, but when was the last time a Webberless Kings team was any good? Both norcal teams are pretty bad. At least with Nelson, Randolph, Morrow, Biedrins, and Curry the Warrirors should be fun to watch. If KMart gets hurt again it could get really really really ugly for the Kings this year. (Not that they’ll be any good with him, but he’s a guy thats often worth tuning in to watch)
Thing A
Its not so much about being good or not, it’s about direction, personally. The Kings have dedicated owners who have some sort of direction with their franchise. I’ve put up with plenty of bad teams, but I want to root for a team that is progressing and shows it wants to win. Also, the Kings seem to have a team of good guys that wouldn’t go behind each others backs as Monta did.

How is Monta wrong?
He’s just saying that two skinny 6’3" players in the backcourt won’t work out. He’s just being realistic. Those two would get eaten alive on defense.
I agree with you about Jackson, though. I would want out of Golden State if I were him, too. I would just say, “F*ck this organization, they formed a great playoff team and then broke it up and now we’re one of the most dysfunctional clubs in the NBA again. Everyone on that damn team got trade and now I’m suddenly stuck here by myself. I miss Chris Mullin, it wasn’t his fault!”.

only b/c they’re bad defenders – Dumars & Isiah were smaller, but managed. West & Mo Will manage.
anyway, expect to see a ton of zone this season.

I disagree with Monta’s timing. It’s the first day. I don’t know if Monta knows this, but Monta is the reason why it is difficult to find another adequate guard in the backcourt. He is a small 6’3 shooting guard that cannot guard big guards. And he can’t run the point. Baron Davis’ do not come around a lot and there are not many point guards that resemble Baron that would fit well with Monta. Monta needs a big point guard who can guard the larger two’s who can distribute in the open court. Those are hard to find.

I stopped taking this fanpost seriously as soon as it blamed Monta
Did you read the actual transcript? He’s not attacking Curry. He said 2 small sized guards in the backcourt won’t survive in the NBA.
he must not watch a lot of Cavs games.

Lebron pretty much acts like a 2
And a 1 … and a 4…
If we had a defensive/rebounding beast SF like LeBron (or even Gerald Wallace, since there is no one “like LeBron”) we might be able to ponder a Monta/Curry backcourt. With Jack or Maggs or Buike at SF, not so much.
Sigh. I’m going to check out from reality for a moment and have a pipe dream involving the following: (1) Curry’s friendship with LeBron is much deeper than any of us realize. (2) We’re magically able to clear Monta, Jack, and Maggs from the books by next summer. (3) Larry Ellison buys Warriors and instantly makes the Bay Area an attractive destination for the world’s greatest basketball player.
A starting five of Curry + Morrow + LeBron + Randolph + Biedrins = multiple NBA Championships. Anyone who disagrees can eat my shorts.
There will be no extra point!

as long as you're dreaming
Shaq and LeBron have a huge falling out sometime around early December and the city of Cleveland and the franchise inexplicably side with Shaq publicly. LeBron gets so incredibly upset that he announces he is definitely NOT going to return to Cleveland under any circumstances, Cleveland knows it isn’t likely to attract any free agents again anytime soon and sees value in the long term contracts of good players like Ellis, Jackson, and Maggette and accepts all 3 of them in return for LeBron and Big Z’s expiring contract. Ellison has bought the Warriors and is willing to go well into the lux tax. The team goes back to its early 90’s “Run TMC” style jerseys. In the offseason LeBron convinces D-Wade that the franchise is on its way to multiple championships with or without him and the Warriors sign Wade with the money cleared from Ilgauskas, Claxton, Law, George, and Moore and then re-sign LeBron.
PG-Curry/Wade/CJ
SG-Wade/Morrow
SF-LeBron/LeBron/Buike
PF-Randolph/Wright
C-Biedrins/Turiaf
Ellison and Riley then realize they doesn’t need anymore basketball contributions but due to NBA rules need 2 more bodies to fill out the roster so in a genius PR move they ink GSoM to 2 minimum salary lifetime contracts and each of us gets to suit up and watch the game from the bench for 1 or 2 games a year and the money from the contracts goes right back into buying a few more front row season tickets.

Why would Lebron be in love with a skinny little rookie tweener guard ?

i guess you don’t watch any Cavs games. West has to guard someone that outsizes them – whether it be a 2 or 3. the Mavs were running Devin Harris & Jason Terry and winning. the Nuggets were running Steve Blake & Iverson / Iverson / Carter awhile back. not title teams, but winning teams (and let’s not kid ourselves, this isn’t a 4th/5th seed caliber team).
the W’s need to put their best players on the floor. if Curry is one of them so be it. you don’t have to pair them together all the time, match ups will dictate that. you can hide them within zones, you can move one of them onto a guy who is in there for defense or a spot shooter like Kapono/Korver.
the league is littered with small backups that have succeeded in winning championships. Dumars/Thomas, Jerry West/Calvin Murphy. it’s not the size, it’s the fact that Monta is an atrocious defender who obviously doesn’t want to get stuck guarding SGs (Curry remains to be seen).
good lord you all are as stubborn as Sing/Raye/Al Davis.

whoops. should read small backcourts.

Again, its the timing, you don’t say something like this the first day, and the main point I am trying to get across is that I’m tired of pulling for team that neglects its fans, and players who are more concerned with themselves than their team.

Monta is right. We do need a big 2. Morrow works well enough. Jackson, too. I’d rather have McGrady or Hamilton, personally.
Welcome to the Pit of Despair! Don't even think about trying to escape.
eventually, yes. but this season, we’d be lucky to make the playoffs and need to play our best players as much as possible to get there. look, we’re not going to win 40+ games this season by conventional means anyway (with Monta/Morrow or Monta/Jack line ups at the guard position) – this team just isn’t that good yet.
imo, (along w/ Randolph) we need to play Curry as much as possible to see if he can someday play PG & what kind of defender he is.
but we also need to play Monta to see what kind of player he is post Baron and whether he has plateaued as most players tend to do (at his age / with his years in the NBA).
if Curry is who the Suns/Knicks/Warriors think he is, then it is a lot easier to find a SG with size to pair alongside of him than it it to find a PG with size to pair alongside of Monta.
it’ll be important to find out this season which direction to take with Monta.
