Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Stephen Jackson: What is he worth?

So what exactly is this disgruntled, aging, turn over prone player worth? Depending on who you ask it may vary. I have looked over every team in the league and found a hand full of decent proposals.

First up: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8r3q7o - This works for both squads. With Tracy Mcgrady's status up in the air they could use an upgrade over Shane Battier. We get a leader, great defender and a guy who will be great in the locker room. For Houston it's  a what if trade, meaning what if Tmac doesn't make a good comeback and we need someone to help us get where we need to go? This type of deal that would probably done mid season.

2nd - Jackson , Law and George for Jeff Green and Thabo Sefolosha. The Thunder are a very young team that need a veteran guy in the back court. This does leave them thin at power forward but Durant or Jackson should be able to split time along with other bigs at that spot. For us we gain Green who is younger ,a good rebounder and defender and has a good offensive game. Thabo is pretty much a lock down defender.

Then of course - http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yefspfu - We have talked about this many times but I still think it is a good trade for both sides. The only variables are that Howard is younger, has an expiring deal and why does Cuban want to trade with Nelly?

And finally the one everyone wishes would happen - http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yb286me - How do I defend this? Maybe if he signs a two or three year extension we thrown in Law and our first round pick and maybe some cash compensations? We can only dream.

Oh Stephen Jackson, boy have you gotten yourself and us into a mess. Personally I think the most possible is the one for Battier. Him and Jackson are the same age but do different things. Battier can help a good team, or give someone the defensive boost they need. While Jackson when he plays with purpose can play like an all star. But man, he has acted like such a spoiled brat that I'm not sure any GM or owner would want him.Just his presence alone in our locker room may affect the likes of Monta Ellis, Anthony Randolph and maybe even Stephen Curry. If we do not do something quick, this will turn very ugly. My message to Stephen would be that if you want to be traded, act right or else no team is going to want you. At least play hard and give it your all with a good mentality  and then maybe a GM may think that you want to be traded but still are giving it your all. Not a guy who will go out and say anything he wants and put his team in an awkward and terrible situation, I just hope for his and our sake he comes out and plays like he did last year and then maybe he can leave if he is still mad. But I can see where he is coming from, going from playing with Baron Davis, Jason Richardson and going to the playoffs then winning 48 games to being on a young team that needs to develop for a year or two. But he still could have handled this better.

I’d do any of those trades in a heartbeat. Also if Houston would do Ariza for Jackson, I’d go for it too.

Yea……but there’s no way they’d even consider it. I like the OKC idea, but I’m afraid OKC won’t want any part of Jackson or his contract.

Thing A

by sam23 on Sep 29, 2009 2:33 AM PDT up reply actions

Ariza isn’t eligible to be traded yet if Morey wanted to. If Daryl Morey really is the wise “moneyball” GM of basketball, there’s nothing that suggests he’d be willing to take an aging vet with a contract that takes him into his mid 30s for a young guy they just signed who, GS fans’ and PPG fanatics aside has put up significantly more valuable numbers than Jax (and not just when he was playing alongside Kobe).

Sigh.

Ariza? Battier? Jeff Green? Come the fark on, man. Given his comments, his mediocre performance, and his horrible contract (not so much in salary as in years) …. if you can get a bag of balls with a better contract, you dance around the room.

There will be no extra point!

+1

I think a good hope would be Jackson and Wright for Peja Stajokovic. The trade would give New Orleans some immediate salary relief and 2 decent players and we get a horriable contract thats off the books in 2 seasons.

Thats not bad, and Peja could get more butts in the seats from his Sac following.

great idea

"If you hit .440 with 20 bombs, you don't have to do s---. You don't have to bring a glove to practice, just hit and leave whenever you want. You can bring a 40 and smoke a cigarette and call me from the parking lot asking me what time the game is, and I'll tell you. You can even say 'F--- you, Steve!' Actually, don't say that, that wouldn't be very nice." -Steve Friend, Head Coach, Chabot College Gladiators Baseball

… but completely implausible.

Also, if you’re hitting .440, I wanna know what your on-base percentage is. If it’s .460 or something, all the .440 tells me is “you better bring a glove and a bat to practice, because you’ve been incredibly lucky on BABIP and you’re about to regress to the mean furiously.”

There will be no extra point!

I think the 20 bombs one month into the season means something?

realistic trades

Here’s some realistic trades. Seriously, the Thunder aren’t going to take Jackson and give us Jeff Green, that’s just stupid.

Trade #1 – S. Jackson, K. Azuibuke to Mavs for Josh Howard

Trade #2 – S. Jackson to Kings for A.Nocioni

Trade #3 – S. Jackson, R. Turiaf, A. Law to Cavs for D.West & Z. Ilguaskas

Trade #4 – S. Jackson, B.Wright, S. Claxton to 76ers for E. Brand and J. Smith

I think something like Jackson to Bulls for Jerome James (6 mil expiring) + James Johnson would seem realistic and would give us another young talented player,
I’d be extremly happy though if we could do the OKC deal

The ironic thing about Stephen Jackson wanting to be traded is that the contract extension he signed makes him all but UNtradeable. If he wants to leave, ask him to void his own contract. Then let him go to whatever team is willing to sign him.

Jackson isn't an upgrade over Battier

Don’t be fooled by PPG, or even Hollinger’s PER, which overvalues low-percentage shooters like Jackson.

by Ronaldinho on Sep 29, 2009 6:38 PM PDT reply actions

He’s worth negative.

By this I mean that if you allowed any team in the league to take Jackson in exchange for nothing, without violating salary cap rules, I’m straining to think of a single team that would want to do such a thing. The only way to trade Jackson is to take back a long term (2 years or more) contract of a player who is either bad (short deal) or about the same ability as Jackson (longer deal).

Addition by Subtraction

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine

I like the idea of trading for Mcgrady’s ailing body and expiring contract. Houston get the expiring contract of Speedy, plus Jacskon and Maggs.

GSW: Mcgrady raises interest in Oakland for the year, and his contract expires at the end of the season freeing up cap room for resigning Randolph and Morrow, along with Buike and Wright, or another Free agent.

Houston: 2 possible starters for the price of 1, plus a 5M expiring contract just to sweeten the pot.

Championship parade isnt happening in Oakland next year…

by fliptikal on Sep 30, 2009 3:48 PM PDT reply actions

For the one million plus fourth time, there’s no chance in hell that Houston unloads McGrady’s awesome sexy beautiful tasty contract for two of the worst contracts in the entire NBA. Absolutely none.

No Chance on Green

I don’t see the Thunder making a trade for Jackson. They are building a team the right way and probably need another year to see how everyone fits together.

As long as Jackson plays hard and doesn’t tank it, I think we would be more likely to get a good return player for him from a playoff team closer to the trade deadline.

The only other option I see is Dallas and only if Cuban is actually enamored with some part of Jackson’s game.
