Simply Confused Warriors fan.
Well this has certainly not been the sort of offseason that I like many fans expected coming off the end of last season and the Larry Riley hire...
First of all I'd like to state that while I was not over enthused about the Mullin departure and Riley promotion, I did like what I heard in terms of building around the young guys, but also improving the roster for next season to reach the playoffs. I also was greatful to see that the team was going to "attempt" to reach out to fans via phone calls/season ticket holder meetings, and the calls did indeed take place. I do not know if such meetings even occurred or are planned. Therefore my question is did they even take in any of the what we the fans had to say or thought about the state of the team? I just don't see a much improved roster at this point and lets not forget the fact that our supposed Captain now wants to jump ship.
Here are the improvements made so far:
- Drafted Steph Curry
- Acquired A.C. Law and Speedy Claxton(rd. 2)
- Acquired Devean George
- Signed Mikki Moore
Compare to the subtractions
- Traded Jamal Crawford
-Traded Marco Bellinelli
- Let Rob Kurz walk
- Waived Jermareo Davidson
and Finally the maybe happening:
- Trade Biedrinis, Wright, Watson for Amare Stoudemire/Bosh/somebody
- Trade Stephen Jackson to whatever they can get.
So after the moves that were made and taking into consideration the various rumors that have been floated out there I just don't see much if any improvement, unless Curry blossoms immeadiately as a PG. Unfortunately from what I saw in summer ball that probably won't happen any time soon if ever. The guy can shoot, but i don't know if he can create on the pro level or if he really wants to.
So at this point I'm just a confused Warriors fan as to where the improvement is. I'll stay realistic and optimistic in that I'm sure they know they aren't a true contender at this point and that playoffs this year will be a stretch, and that maybe there will be better trade prospects once the season starts, but still i just feel like I deserved more.
Here's to next season and to some sort of future for the Warriors.

Be Patient
There hasn’t been one transaction in the NBA that had me thinking “Hey the Warriors could have and should have made that move!!”
They’re making small smart moves, which could set us up for big smart moves later on. I’m much happier this offseason than last season when they wasted salary cap space and made every bad basketball decision they could have.
This has been a good offseason:
- We drafted someone Don Nelson actually wants to play.
- Acquired valuable expiring contracts.
- Signed a reliable veteran big as a backup.
- Traded away chronic loser Crawford.
Realistically, our offseason couldn’t have gone any better. If we some how magically rid ourselves of Jackson that would just be icing on the cake.

Would have gone better if we completed that original Amare trade. Would have definitely given some life and excitement for the off season.

How about Toronto getting young Marco Bellinelli for old Devean George? That was a pretty sharp move.

Here's an idea we trade jackson and Maggete for Quentin Richardson, Diawara Yakhouba and Udonis Haslem
This would make Heat a contender with this lineup
Wade/ Quinn/ Chalmers
Jackson/Cook/ Jackson and Cook sharing starting role
Maggette/ Jones/ Wright
Beasely/ Joel Anthony
Jermaine O’neal/ Jamaal Magiore
gives Heat ok depth, good scoring, ok defence with Wade and O’neal getting blocks and Corey and Jack getting steals.
I know this would give the Heat two bad contracts but it would also give them the players that could lead them to a championship and keep Wade happy.
This gives Warriors Veteran big with leadership skills and good rebounding
Richardson isnt bad but isnt a great player, and who cares about the skills we get rid of two horrible contracts, and get two expiring contracts whitch equals big money for the offseason signings

Doubtful. Adding two mediocre wing players on a team with one of the worst frontcourts in the NBA? They’re currently Wade + a pile of junk; after this trade they’d still be Wade + a pile of junk. Meanwhile, we pick up a marginally worse (if less onerous) pile of junk than the one we shipped out. One of those curious deals that pretty much sucks for both teams…
Richardson isnt bad
Actually, he is.
Also if Beasely can play like a number two pick the Heat will easily be contenders
What’s a #2 pick play like? Darko Milicic? Danny Ferry? Stromile Swift? Shawn Bradley?

how about
lamarcus aldridge, emeka okafor, kevin durant, tyson chandler, steve francis or mike bibby. They were all #2 picks. If he can play in the realm of that kind of talent then i think he’ll be ok

i think he’ll be ok
This is an oft-used expression among sports fans, and I’m never quite sure what it means. If it means "average or “decent” or “so-so” (traditional definition of “ok”) it makes sense in the context of your post, since most of the players you listed have been no better than that in their NBA careers. If you meant “great” or “above reproach” or “capable of turning a mediocre team like the Heat into contenders,” you chose a strange bunch of guys to make your point.
Takeaway point is, of course, that the phrase “play like a #2 pick” is pretty meaningless. Once a player has established a baseline performance level in the NBA, where he happened to have been picked in the draft has little bearing on his chances of success going forward. Is there any reason to think Anthony Randolph is going to start “playing like a #14 pick”?

You mean ’cos I like it when people say what they actually mean, rather than speak in vague, lazy catch-phrases? You may consider things like content and meaning “nits;” I consider them the basis of any interesting dialogue.
If your post meant something else, my bad. It’s kinda hard to tell as long as you speak in vague, lazy catch-phrases…

Not a bad idea…wasn’t Reggie Miller a #14 pick?

Tellis Frank was #14. Ugh.
I had forgotten that Armen freaking Gilliam was #2…

Warriors must make a decision
The problem the dubs got is that they are stuck in between rebuilding and vying for the playoffs. They want to develop the young core guys we got in ellis, biedrins, randolph, morrow, and curry (etc), but they can’t properly do it cause they have veterans like Maggette and Jackson who want (and deserve) 30-40 minutes a game.
So whats the solution? Well Crawford was a sign of the dubs would like to do, which is trade away players who are competing for minutes at the spots we want our young guys to play, problem is that Maggette and Jackson both hold ridiculous contracts that no team will want to pick up and are too large to simply buyout.
So, we got only really got 3 choices, we can trade away Jackson and/or Maggette along with a bunch of players we want to keep (Randolph for sure would be a part of that trade), or we could trade away Jackson and/or Maggette and get back a bunch of crap contracts that would hopefully expire in a year or 2, or lastly we stay pat and wait for Jackson and Maggettes contracts too expire.
I don’t really see the last one happening, so at this time I would be leaning closer to option 2 then 1, but in either scenario us warrior fans shouldn’t be expecting playoff basketball for several years to come id wager. The organization has put itself in a real tight spot by upping Jackson early, and now they will likely have to eat his contract for another year or two, if not for the full duration.

yup, some of us have been saying that for some time:

most dissapointing thing about nellie
was his lack of development for our rookies. Every team has at least 2 goals for every season. 1. Contend for championship is obvious. 2. Develop players so they can contribute. When i think of these 2 goals, I come to realize just how much of a bust our last season really was. We didn’t get into the playoffs AND EVEN IF WE DID, we had absolutely no chance of contending for a ring. But not only that, Nellie denied our rookies any playing time even though our starters were worn out, AND we ruined the chemistry and confidence of our key bench players (namely Harrington, Buike,…..maybe Barnes but he was having a crappy season, and Pietrus). Now when we look at this upcoming season, our key rookies (Wright and Bellineli) are practically in the same place they were a year ago in regards of experience, plus we have 2 new rookies in Hendrix and Randolph to work with. As good as Nellie is, I dont believe he is the coach we want to work with a rebuilding roster of young players.

I used to fear that we’d have to use young talent to unload bad contracts too, but the Crawford trade taught us that we do not have to trade away our young players to unload our overpaid vets – we just need someone willing to take them for (almost) nothing and get (practically) nothing in return. Option two is where it’s at. How sad is that? We’ve gotten to the point (vomit rising) that after a 29W season (near gagging) we want to give away two or our more talented rotation players! (chucking chunks)

For YaHeard from above
Why couldn’t the Warriors have gone after Ramon Sessions? Now the Timberwolves have 2 solid PG’s and we have none :-(

"Solid" is an interesting word choice
For the T-Wolves point-guard situation. They have Sessions, who has proven that he can be solid starting point guard for half a season, Flynn, who might have been the most overrated player in the draft, and Rubio, who won’t play a game in America for 2 years. At best they have a “potentially solid” point guard situation.
That said, I think the Warriors would have been wise to go after Sessions, though I don’t know if they could afford the 4years-$16 mil that the T-Wolves are paying him.
